That makes no sense. "Teamwork" means LESS "individual snowflake" and more subsuming the self into the team.

In short, it is Fascism.

Wow, you're making a huge mistake by not eating Asian street food!!!!

What do you think about double dipping?

I think the question in this discussion is whether it IS rude. As we've seen, that's not universally accepted.

I am, however, going to stop doing it because its clear many people consider it rude. What I've actually started doing is ASKING people if they are double dippers or not.

Chopsticks, on the other hand....

I dont see what's funny. This is obvioulsy a side. There were probably other things on the show, and they just write up recipes for everything.

What's stupid about the bacon recipe? Microwaved bacon is far superior to fried, and most people don't know that.

Paula Deen eating a cheeseburger

My doctor tells me that carbs don't cause diabetes, being overweight causes diabetes.

Sexy food-What do you cook to woo someone?

Looks like it should have been "foods that involve cruelty to animals."

"Cruel Food"....should be the title for Bourdain's next book!

Armenian Jam with pits

I bought a jar of sour cherry preserves from my local Armenian deli. Its delicious! But the cherries still have the stones/pits in them.

So I can't spread it on bread. Anybody know what the intended way to use this is? Its so good that I've been eating it with a spoon and spitting out the pits.

That's my point! I've never been to a luau, and I've not heard of most of the things you mentioned!

"Pink pork ribs" are the sticky glazed spareribs that they serve at tiki bars. like this one:

http://bahooka.com/

I'm admitting to complete ignorance of Hawaiian cuisine, which is why its onerous to expect me to come up with a luau dish.

You're missing my point Linda. Office potlucks are optional only insofar as you have the *option* to be the weird guy sitting at his desk eating cup of noodles.

Its "optional" in the sense that tipping a waiter or getting your lover a valentine's gift is optional.

You have the option, but there will be consequences.

It's not mandatory, but obligatory.

This is why I, and others on the board are skeeved out by a monthly potluck, especially one in which people are being graded on what they bring.

American here. I would never assume the other person was paying. Especially if it was another dude.

What the heck are you supposed to bring to a Luau? Suckling pig, pink pork ribs, and poi are the only things that come to mind.

Want to bring something to a potluck that will work EVERY TIME. That will be GONE at the end of the night? That people will THANK you for bringing?

Get a bucket of chicken. Seriously. Trust me.

(Preferably Popeye's)

I say let it go. It seems a little tacky to tally the dollar value on what people bring. We're only talking about a five dollar difference.

What business are you in where you are required to potluck every month?

Bourdain vs. Deen

She's doing an "aw shucks" passive agressive "I'm so much classier than you" thing. Fox is using this as an excuse to fan the culture war flames. Just like they did when the NYT did a piece extolling southern cooking:

I actually LOST weight when I started cooking the Julia Child cookbook. French food is heavy on subtle flavor and thus is eaten more slowly, and makes you feel full faster. PD cooking is what they call "hyperpalatable". Its short on flavor and heavy on fat, which triggers a binge impulse.

Stop Bashing Paula Deen

You can't compare foie gras to deep fried butter! Deen's cooking is about piling on the excess to large portions of bland flavorless food!

Anybody ever try making "caviar" that tastes like caviar?

So there's this trend in molecular gastronomy to create "caviar" out of fruit juices, vinnegar, and other liquids. It occurs to me that by using fish sauce, and maybe soy, you could create something that actually tastes like caviar.

Is this a workable idea?
