Cantonese banquet qs (1 potential long shot)

Joyful Garden has convenient and free parking. I had my son's first 100 days celebration there last year. The manager spoke english and dealing with them was fairly easy. Their service was perfect the day of the event.
I chose their set dishes for table of 8 ppl and added 2 dishes. My event was for 10 tables. Going that route was easier on the wallet than choosing the fixed banquet offerings.

One of my fave spots. The fried clams and clam chowder are pretty good too.

Breakfast near XV Beacon please?

One Ashburton Place - gov't/state building. The basement has a cafeteria that serves the gamut - http://gometro.com/ashburton-cafe/

Plus across the hall is the Lottery Office where you can try your luck.

New Thai Restaurants in Newton

Have not tried Manow yet but my Thai friend says it's as good as Rod Dee and Duk Bua, if not, better. He really praised it for it's authenticity and reasonable prices. It's on my radar to try.

Live Lobster prices- please share what you see!

Picked up a few from the Roche in West Rox - $5.99 p/lb. 1.25 lbs ea. They were very good. The shells were harder than the usual flimsy chicken lobster. Harder shells are a good sign of sweeter meat.

Boston recs

Belle Isle in Winthrop just over the bridge from East Boston (10 mins from Logan) for fried clams, lobster rolls and clam chowder. I know you can't get your fix in TX or SF this stuff.

pizza memories

Anyone remember Dino's (I think that was the name) waaaaay back in the day in the middle of the "Combat Zone"? I have fond memories of the thin crispy crust and the corn meal like stuff on the pan (not pizza ingredient expert here). Mom used to take me there for a slice on occasion. It was a simple slice of cheese but the smells and tastes I haven't found replicated. I think the nostalgia of it just makes it that special inside my head. And the Ugi's down the street, bacon and egg sandwich for breakfast. Ahhh the memories.

Besito Chestnut Hill April 2015

I'm a recent dad and I find it a little offensive when I'm seated way out in the outskirts of a restaurant's floorplan.

It happened to me recently at a pricey seafood restaurant at Legacy Place in Dedham. I get it. They see a baby and want to set us aside in case of noise disruptions or flailing food.

My slight offense was quickly overshadowed by the amazing clam chowder and fish tacos I had for lunch. Plus my baby boy is a well behaved little cherub so it's all good.

Nice to know the upscale Mexican restaurant @ Chestnut Hill isn't all that. I'll wait for Frank Pepe's in the fall.

Best Japanese in Dedham/Westwood?

I'd stick with Oga's especially since you are familiar with it. Was just there for Easter Sunday dinner. My one year old loved the pork belly buns and tamago sushi. I had the tempura soba with a side of spicy tuna and my wife ordered a donburi. Everything was done well. They've been in the game long enough to keep it consistent.

I've been to Genki and JP Seafood (prefer JP Seafood over Genki) but since you want to make an impression - Oga.

Seafood Dim Sum recs

HLM is so busy it ensures the food to be fresher than the other not as busy restaurants. Expect long waits with larger parties. How about the fish filet with chinese broccoli or mixed vegetables on chow mein? My grandma's fave. I haven't gone to CCC in ages. For me, if you want the best, just go to HLM. I'm not saying China Pearl or Winsor isn't any good but for that once a year experience, just go HLM. If venture to Ctown every so often, then try the others.

Seafood Dim Sum recs

Hei La Moon. Everything already suggested plus siu mai (pork and shrimp) dumplings, shrimp with rice noodles (cheurn fun) and you could easily order up a seafood 8 delight with chow mein (crispy noodle) or hor fun (wide flat noodles). Dim sum is best with a large group so you can try many things. Enjoy!

How we'd fix it: Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market

I was quite surprised to hear about it being in the top ten tourist attractions in the world:

Visiting Boston for first time-would love some Foodie help

If you make into Saugus, how about some donuts from Kanes? When my brother comes from the Bay area, he has to have his donuts from Dunkie's - Boston Kreme.
If you make it Belle Isle - my wife claims the best around lobster roll - not too mayo-ey which is how she prefers it.
All the suggestions sound great. I'll have to try a few of the CH recs myself.
Hopefully the weather holds up for you. Enjoy!

Best time of year for king crab?

Just me and the lady, the bill came up to $200 tip/tax included. My coworker just had AKC in Richmond for $11 p/lb. The one I had was 7lbs. They average 6 to 12lbs. It's still early in the season. Enjoy it while you can. Jealous of you folks over there. So you know how lucky you are, back here in Boston, it's $31 p/lb in a restaurant and $22 p/lb in a grocery store.

Best time of year for king crab?

Just had the king crab at SSW for $16.80 p/lb. It was wifey's first time. Had it prepared 3 way. Added a peapod stem sauteed with garlic....we are stuffed. Thank you Vancouver!

Best time of year for king crab?

I'll be visiting in 2 weeks. Enough ramping time to do a rampage on the King Crab? :D

Abalone, sea cucumber etc.

I would call in advance to New Golden Gate in Chinatown, Boston to see if they have those unusual sea creatures in stock. Be forewarned, it will be pricey dishes. Gluck!
