BEST PIÑA COLADA IN LA - WHERE?!

So, here's my story - funny how there's ALWAYS a "story" connected to my Posts!

I was in NYC last week. My cousin just became a Bartender and wanted to make me a special drink. Since I DON'T DRINK ALCOHOL I requested a Virgin Piña Colada. I wasn't expecting much, after all she JUST became a Bartender and I figure it would (hopefully) be edible. I took a sip and I swear, it was one of the BEST Piña Coladas I have ever tried! It was more 'milky' than 'smoothie' but it was still perfectly balanced and delicious! I was in Heaven.

This week I flew back to Los Angeles and now I'm CRAVING a delicious Piña Colada, like the one my cousin made. So I headed to the Supermarket, bought pineapple juice and cream of coconut, mixed equal parts of each with a little bit of ice, blended away and... VOILA! TOTAL CRAP!! I made the WORST PIÑA COLADA EVER. It tasted like butter & cream. Funny how life is, in one week I had both the Best & the Worst of something. How we go through the highs & lows of life. And on that note, I'm flushing this crap down the toilet.

So that's my story and here I am, once again, CRAVING (now more than ever) a DELICIOUS VIRGIN PIÑA COLADA.

Let's make it OFFICIAL: Who makes the BEST VIRGIN PIÑA COLADA IN LOS ANGELES??

Let me know, I'll be the tester, and give my 5 Stars to the best one!

Peace, Diaky Diaz (=

not sure if i dare jump into the frozen food aisle! the 'fresh' ones at Marmelade and around town are sooo good. But if you keep insisting I may have to take you up on that idea.

BEST New York Style Cheesecake in Los Angeles!

Let me start by publicly stating that I am a Food Snob. That's what happens when you go to so many restaurants, you begin to develop a finicky-snobish tongue that will only accept the very best. In the are of Cheesecake, I have found what I believe to be the BEST NEW YORK STYLE CHEESECAKE IN LOS ANGELES.

The winner is: THE CHEESECAKE AT "MARMALADE CAFE" on Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks.

The Size: I give it an 8, not impressive but enough for 2 to share.

The "Top": PERFECT 10! It has an absolute perfect dark beige, firm baked, top. Almost like a cake. As if baked a little too long. The best I've ever had thus far.

The Filling: Firm, Creamy, Sweet but not too sweet, well-balanced, a perfect 10.

The Crust: It has one of those graham cookie bottoms, very dense and crumbly. Not too sweet. I give it an 8.

In my opinion, and my Food Snob tongue will agree, the Cheesecake at Marmalade Cafe is better than Cheesecake Factory (oh please!) or Marie Calendars (pretty decent).

Please let me know your thoughts and prove me wrong otherwise!

Have a Happy Festivus (=

Best Lasagna in Los Angeles! (But NO Pork)

Found a place: "Buca di Beppo". Their lasagna is all beef - no pork. Just tried it today and here's our review: too much ricotta cheese, not enough mozzarella, but the meat sauce was good. I give it a 3 Stars (our of 5).

Let me know of other restaurants in L.A. that serve beef-only Lasagna. Thanks!! (=

Best Lasagna in Los Angeles! (But NO Pork)

Hello Chowhound Folks,

1st: Happy, Healthy, Holidays (=

2nd: My friends are looking for the BEST LASAGNA in Los Angeles.

But here's the thing, it must be "beef only" Lasagna (no pork sausage or ground pork or ANY pork filling.) Most Restaurant that serve meat Lasagna seem to have a 50/50 beef/pork filling or pork sausage added.

So, if you know of a Restaurant that serves GREAT BEEF-ONLY LASAGNA, then please do recommend away!

Thanks! (=
