Suggestions for Thanksgiving in Nashville?
Thank you for the suggestions and feedback!
Alas, money is an object. I am a huge fan of The Capital Grille, especially since the original is only a few blocks from my office and is the scene of many a memorable happy hour, but it's a bit steep for us to be taking a whole crowd out for Thanksgiving.
I'm only a Southerner by marriage, so the family-style Southern meal is very appealing to me since I didn't grow up with that kind of food. I'll make the suggestion of Merchant's or Monell's and see what my mother-in-law says.
Thank you again!
Suggestions for Thanksgiving in Nashville?
Hi everyone -
DC Chowhound here, looking for help. We'll be spending Thanksgiving in Nashville with my in-laws, and well...no one cooks. There will be 8-10 of us, including an 11 month old. I've heard recommendations for:
Ellendale's
Merchant's
Monell's
Does anyone have any thoughts on these or any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance!!

Best Matzoh Ball soup in Northern VA (inside the beltway)
Metro 29 Diner on Lee Highway in Arlington, VA.
Looking for loose leaf tea/tisane
The only one I can think of in DC is Teaism - Penn Quarter and Dupont Circle.
Delicious Take Out in Northern Virginia for Anniversary of Parents of a Newborn
Does Coastal Flats do take out? I like them. Otherwise, I'd call one of your favorite restaurants, explain the situation and ask them if they can package up your meal for pickup. I bet any one of them would do it!
Congratulations!!
Please help - looking for starry cookies and chocolates
Heidelberg Bakery has these lovely little cinnamon star cookies that are topped with hazelnut meringue. Yum!
Best bread pudding in DC?
I'm partial to the bread pudding at Coastal Flats. It's a little nontraditional - looks like a mini-bundt cake, but it has a caramel center and served warm with vanilla ice cream. Very, very good.
Ray's Hell Burger (I Don't Get All The Hoopla)
Thanks, Steve. Where in FC is Italian Cafe? I don't think I've ever seen it?

Ooo, thanks for the tip alkapal! I drive by Anthony's constantly and have never been in!
Great Chinese food in Bethesda or D.C. area?
Agreed - the dan dan noodles and the hot and sour noodles are both vegetarian. There is a vegetarian pan fried bun, as well as steamed vegetarian dumplings. Also, there are several cold plates, as DanielK points, out that are vegetarian-friendly including seaweed, tofu or gluten in various forms, and others.
RT's, Del Ray, Alexandria
No, no! I go to RT's just about every two weeks and the prices on this website are accurate by my count.

Coming Soon to SW
Ha! I thought that too! I actually said to my co-worker, "I wonder if they deliver?" But I didn't see any signs about that and their little take away menu didn't indicate it.
Coming Soon to SW
Just got back. Short answer: it's a welcome addition to a neighborhood bereft of good options, but it's nothing to write home about.
Pizza comes by the slice or by the 17" pie. There is a limited variety: cheese, pepperoni, spinach, mushroom & pepperoni, vegetarian, and "the works". They also have stuffed pizza (one vegetarian, one meat), stromboli, and panini. Some basic salads (house, caesar, chicken caesar).
They hand toss their pizza, which I haven't had the chance to observe for a while. Nothing too showy, but reminded me of my childhood in NY and NJ.
The pizza itself is a little thick for my taste, a little too chewy. But it tasted fresh and the toppings (I got The Works) were not too greasy. Good amount of tomato sauce. I also had the house salad, which was meh.
Overall, not too expensive, and a filling lunch.
Please Rec Bakery in DC or NOVA for Cake
There's a bakery next to Hong Kong Palace, called Tiffany's Bakery. I've liked all the things that I've tried there, including a slice of tres leches cake. I've never had the chocolate cake, so I can't attest to it, but it might be worth looking into.
I second the Pastries by Randolph suggestion, and also add Heidelburg Bakery into that.
Eden Center
Best as in most authentic but with little ambiance? Or best as in nicest environment? I haven't tried every place there, but from the looks of it, very few of the restaurants are "nice" in the sense of tablecloths and candlelight. If you're looking for really yummy and cheap, then I suggest Huong Viet. Bring cash, no credit cards.
Cheap Places to Eat near White House
Agreed. Breadline is pretty pricey. While good, it can induce a "I paid how much for this?" reaction.
Where to find the best classic gin martini?
I always had good luck at the District Chophouse, the Capital Grille, and the Palm. Those guys are used to making martinis and will make them as you specify.
BTW, and I don't mean to sound snooty or anything, but "neat" is when a single alcohol is served room temperature, straight out of the bottle, generally with a glass of water on the side. I think the term you're looking for is "straight up" or "up", which is when the alcohol is chilled over ice and then strained. I make this distinction because I actually watched someone insist to a bartender that "neat" was how he wanted his martini, not "up." Imagine his surprise, when the bartender complied and he received a warm martini. Ick.
Homily (U Street)
Just drove past this today on my way to a friends. I think the window said "Upscale Southern Cuisine." Has anyone been?
Quiet DC restaurants w/character for in-laws
Founding Fathers can get unbearably loud. My friends and I were hoarse when we left.
My Search for a Decent Sunday Brunch (Ongoing)
Hmmm...don't think your list came through on your original post...
How about Great Bakeries in Falls Church/Tysons/Vienna?
There's also a decent Hispanic bakery next to Hong Kong Palace, called Tiffany's Bakery. DH loves their shortbread cookies, and I'm a big fan of their version of hamantaschen. The cakes look good though I've never tried them.
Japanese Shabu Shabu...
The subject of much recent controversy...

Searching for Steak house recommendations
I would give anything (well, almost...) if RTS could have a full bar. There's just something about having a martini before a steak that makes it complete. *sigh*
Phosphates in NoVa or DC?
Very similar to an egg cream, but I think they add a drop or two of an actual phosphate powder or liquid, which IIRC makes it extra foamy, and imparts a slightly different flavor.
North China Restaurant: Bethesda
Is this really the Joe of JNH? Wow! Will definitely have to try it!

Hong Kong Palace Menu -- Pick Your Faves.....
For my money, the Chengdu spicy cold noodles are definitely the way to go in an appetizer. The sliced pork in garlic sauce is also pretty good, IIRC. But the cold noodles are sublime.
