Need PA-centric foods for my new book

In york county they make butcher bologna -it is similar to summer sausage but not the same thing . Not as strongly flavored as lebanon bologna .I haven't been able to find it outside of York county .Utz chips are a central Pa. institution ! Also soft pretzels with mustard ! Maple donuts -not sure if that company still exists

Best cookbook to introduce me to Maryland/Mid-Atlantic cuisine?

Maryland's Way is quite an old cook-book ,but well worth seeking out .My parents had it way back when and it was a go to when-ever we wanted to make crab-cakes or deviled crab - A true classic

Mile High Steak and Seafood

We recently ate at Mile High Steak and Seafood which is located in a strip shopping center just beyond the intersection of rt. 1 and 202 . It was very nicely decorated and comfortable . We had a very good waiter , friendly and attentive . I would have to say that everything from start to finish was quite good . I had the mile high martini which was delightful , my husband had his usual manhattan which passed muster .
For starters , my husband had the mushroom napoleon which were sauteed mushrooms with an asian flavor tucked between two puff pastry sheets. very tasty . I had the special crab bisque which was also delicious . As a surprise we were presented with a scoop of lemon sorbet after our appetizers which was a nice touch that is very rare in these times ! For our entrees my husband had the filet which he loved ,and I had the barrel cut rib-eye . Both steaks were cooked to perfection and very tasty . They both were served with sides - I opted to switch from what was offered to the au gratin potatoes also very tasty . My partner had house made vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce for dessert - he was pleased . I must say its the first meal we've had in some time that was good from start to finish . The prices for a steak house were very reasonable , I loved that you did not have to pay for a side dish .

Ocean City - Best Crab??

If you want hard shells I would definitely recommend crab Alley in West Ocean City . Higgins are usually good .For good ,very basic try PGN - Excellent broiled crab cakes -some of the best in OCMD - just make sure to get the broiled. They have great fried chicken and ,burgers also hard shells .In Ocean City ,as a rule you are better off not trying to go too upscale - I would avoid Catch 54

Best Ocean City MD restaurants

In Ocean City , better off going with the basics . Pgn on 28th for burgers and BROILED crab cakes - Anthony's has great roast beef and ham. Crab Alley in W. ocean city has the best steamed crabs . I would avoid Catch 54 - we've eaten there twice - the first time just ok -the second time my husbands steak was rancid - we got comped the entire meal . The Shark near 45th street has been consistently good for quite a few years .

Brandywine Prime

Haven't eaten at Brandywine Prime but I would stay away from the Gables. My husband and I ate there a few months ago after hearing that it was wonderful . A huge disappointment and we won't go back. The mushroom soup was awful -mushrooms were old and barely cooked . The entrees were no better . They offer half portions which is a plus - but so poorly prepared it doesn't matter

Twelves Grill in West Grove

My husband ,daughter and I ate at Twelves two weeks ago . We had questioned whether West Grove could support a more upscale restaurant also. But I 'm happy to report -if they continue with what they've been doing -they should have no problem. My husband had the mushroom croustade which was delicious - I wish I had ordered it ! The salads were large and fresh . I had the flat iron steak . It was prepared with a red wine sauce and porcini's . It was excellent. The meat was cooked exactly as ordered (perfect med. rare ) I wasn't a huge fan of the pommes frites -they could have been a bit crispier. My daughter had trout which was good and my husband had my least favorite of all the mahi- mahi .We shared a dessert of chocolate creme brulee -it was good -not outstanding , but it did get better with each bite ! All in all I think it was fabulous and i'm looking forward to going back this week-end . I wish them luck and think if they continue to improve -we'll be lucky !
