Marrow bones and soup

In the Philippines, we have a dish called "nilagang baka"(boiled beef). My grandma made it with bone marrow. I remember all my brothers and sisters and cousins trying to get the coveted marrow. Since there's so many of us, only the lucky few gets it. We eat it over piping hot rice.

Corned Beef--In A Slow Cooker

mimilulu, i love the contrasting taste and texture. Saltiness of the corned beef with the sweetness of the apricot glaze. When i torch it, i also get the crunchiness of the carmelized sugar from , again the preserve and the tenderness of the meat.

Oh Robin, depends on how much time i have- on high- around 3-4 hours -i usually check it once in a while. Sometimes I leave it overnight, put it in the slow cooker frozen before i go to bed, put it on low and it's perfect when i wake up in the morning.

Corned Beef--In A Slow Cooker

Whenever i make corned beef, i put it in the slow cooker. I put the meat in and the spice packet and that's it. After it reaches the tenderness i want (depends how i want to serve it) I take the meat out and dump what's left in the pot. If i'm going to serve it as a main meal, i glaze it with apricot preserves and since I love using my propane torch, i use it instead of broiling. Also depends on what corned beef cut you have. Some has less fat them the others. But if i need to take out the fat, i do it afterwards.

3 huge boxes of corn flakes-what to do?

Ok, bought 3 big boxes of corn flakes cereal, of course i didn't really read it well- kids eat only FROSTED corn flakes. I was thinking of coating it with a little sugar and add some cinnamon. Any ideas? Thanks.

How to make the perfect tamale

Masa recipe i use: 5 lbs. fresh masa, 5 tsp. baking powder, 1 3/4 cup canola oil and 2 tbsp. salt. I whip it up in my kitchenaid. I usually steam a little ball to see if it's light enough. If not i just whip it again. Sometimes i need to adjust the recipe, but only a little.

How to make the perfect tamale

Hello! I've been making tamales every holiday forever. I make small ones , because i noticed that people like to try diffrent flavors and fillings. So this way they can eat more than one and not be too full. Plus it's great as an appetizer. If you can , make the chile sauce from scratch. I used New Mexican red chile. I find that the ones from the can has a bitter taste. But then it could just be me. This year i'm planning to used blue corn masa. Can't wait!

HELP with cake decorating

I make my modelling chocolate with Merckens chocolate coating and light corn syrup. I make it a little softer so it's easier to roll it between my palms. I just eyeball the size. I let it dry for a while before i cover it with luster dust. When i make flowers , i like using candy oil flavors that goes with the color of the flowers or leaves. Cherry or strawberry for red, lemon for yellow etc. You know how people has a perception of what certain flavors go withe certain colors. And they really like it. It sometimes surprise them too.

HELP with cake decorating

danna, i do the same thing. When you say "paint" do you use a brush? If so there is an easier way. after you make the balls let it dry for a while and then put it in a small container with high sides, add some luster dust and a few drops of alcohol and swirl it around. Add more dust and alcohol until you get the look you want. Good thing about this is i can make smaller balls the size of beads. I've done gold and silver and red. They're beautiful. I made one the look like pearls and decorated the cake with just that and it came out simple but elegant. I alway use white chocolate because i can use any color of dust i want.

HELP with cake decorating

as cheesepowder has suggested, you need to add a little alcohol. I use vodka since i do a lot of cake decorating for my family. You can buy a smal bottle of vodka, i guess. If you're going to use vanilla, make sure its the clear one. Just use a pinch of luster dust, a drop of vodka , mix and paint on the fondant. Do that until you get the shade you want. Don't mix a lot if you're not going to use it at once since the alcohol will evaporate. Hope this helps.
