Weighing foods/Portion Control

those health valley apple bakes and date bakes... are they not listed on their website? http://www.healthvalley.com/products/... or do you have the calorie information incorrect? i'm looking for a healthy, <100 calorie snack/breakfast bar.

Near Kitchen Disasters

when i was young, i'd cook rice before my parents got home from work. my dad always called home before he left work so we'd know when to expect him home. one day i fell asleep while a pot of rice was on the stove. my dad calls home and i tell him still half asleep that there's something wrong with my eyes and everything looks foggy. after that i instantly remembered the rice and hung up the phone. my parents bought a rice cooker after that incident. and the carpet still smelled of smoke months later.

Over-the-top rude service as shtick--I don't get it

i always forget and order fries at the sandwich window. i was just told to go to the next line. never had an attitude. i guess i got lucky and have only been on good nights. the closest thing that came to a bad attitude was when the fry lady rolled her eyes at me when i asked her for a bag.

Best Chinatown Dim Sum?

golden bridge is currently my fave dim sum spot in chinatown. i've never been at prime time so i can't tell you what the wait is like. the place is big so maybe you won't have to wait too long.

Cantonese in Chinatown, had to let you know

i had dim sum there this weekend... was running errands near by and thought i'd give it a shot. walked in about 2pm.. starving. best thing about it was no wait and the cart ladies swarmed the table once we sat down. food was okay. nothing special. wasn't hot. and it was the same 4 carts going by the whole time with the same old stuff. service was good though.

Cantonese in Chinatown, had to let you know

i was asking about the place next door to New Chatham. It looks new and has the same name or very similar name. I drove by pretty fast so I couldn't get a good look. Which is why I ask if New Chatham has expanded or if the new place next door is totally separate and unrelated. or was i just hallucinating..

Did they expand? Or is the new place next door totally separate? I drove by last weekend and saw New Chatham Sq Restaurant in the window. which is the same name as the one in the old Hop Shing location, isn't it?

Do people really like bitter melon?

you're right. i forget fu gua is also called leung gua. actually when you order in restaurants, they call it leung gua. but i'm used to calling it fu gua at home. my chinese sucks. spent thousands on chinese lessons and i really don't have much to show for it. :\

Do people really like bitter melon?

winter melon is the one that is translated to cold melon. in cantonese, "dong gua". bitter melon is "fu gua". and the translations is.. bitter melon.

i hated it as a kid. my mother made bitter melon soup and forced me to drink it because it's supposedly good for me. i had to hold my nose and force it down.

now, i like it. i like the bitterness. i like it when she makes bitter melon with beef in a black bean and garlic sauce. i also occasionally get it at dim sum if they have it. never craved it though... except now. that's a first.

Exercising & Eating after Work

run in the morning or join a gym. figure out a schedule that will work best for you... and prepare your meals in advance.

i normally get out of work between 5:30-6pm and head straight to the gym. i never go home first because i know i'll never make it back out. it takes me about 20 minutes to get to the gym from work. I'm there for about an hour and then i have an hour commute back home. I'll shorten my workout if i have to because I like to be back home by 8:30. Once a week i add an hour of strength training and get back home at 9:30. I normally have dinner waiting for me when I get back, but when I don't I'll pick up something on my way home.

cheap italian brunch?

orologio may be worth a try. i've never been but awhile back was looking for brunch spots that can accomodate 8 ppl in LES and it was recommended. If I remember correctly, the brunch special was priced under $10. I'd call and ask about the eggs benedict. or ask them to fax a copy of their brunch menu.

eating well to lose weight

park closer to your office. don't waste time on walking when you can be running.

not sure what your reasons are for skipping out on running after work.. too late where safety would be an issue is the only valid reason i can think of. maybe wakeup a half hour early and go running in the morning.

eating well to lose weight

cut down on carb intake and make time for exercise. sub your pasta dinner for lean meats/fish and veggies. half an hour a day of exercise is better than nothing. write down rules for diet and exercise and follow them every day for the next 2 months. no excuses. none of this "i try" business.

Esca?

I went about a month ago. It's decent. I enjoyed my meal. Got the crudo tasting and expensive for what it is. $30 for 6 very small, almost bite-sized tastings of raw fish. Then shared two pastas and a fish entree. The pasta portions were pretty big. My boyfriend and I were stuffed after the pastas. We had the sea urchin and crabmeat pasta. Decent amount of crab meat and was really good. I forget the other pasta. We didn't like it much. They won't give you cheese for your pasta, so don't bother asking. Our waiter said the chef does not allow it and the waiter would get fired if he gave it to us. He brought over breadcrumbs instead. The salmon entree we had was delicious.

If I went again, I'd sit outside, share a pasta or app and order one of the fish dishes.

Your Regulars - Winter and Summer?

My beer preferences don't change with the seasons.. I like dunkel weissens and doppel bocks. No specific favorites. I usually get whatever the bar has, if they have it. Haven't had a bad one yet.

Frozen Durian!

my mother is very sensitive to the smell of gas. she can smell a gas leak before anyone else can. my dad was in the hospital and my mother complained she smelled gas. they evacuated his room and checked everything. no gas leak. turns out the smell was coming from next door. where they were eating durian.

babbo question, or how to get out of there for under $150 for 2

If I had $150 to spend at Babbo, I'd get 2 apps, 2 pastas, 1 dessert and a couple glasses of wine.

Cash Only?

I took my friend and her boyfriend out to a restaurant of her choice for her birthday and found out it was cash only when I was looking through the menu. By then, it started raining and we had no umbrellas. I waited until the end of the meal hoping the rain would let up and it didn't. I had to run about half a NYC avenue to the nearest ATM, get money and run back. Not fun.

Ideas, Suggestions and Constructive Criticism

you may want to fix this too..

"These are people who think you posts are so good, that they want to keep tabs on what you posts. You can click on their names and see what they are into as well!"

and "edit settings" would be more accurate if you said "change password" unless you plan on adding more features to the edit settings page.

Cash Only?

I don't go to the bank often and I don't like to pay ATM fees so I pay with my credit card whenever I can. If I really wanted to eat at a restaurant that was cash only, a $2 ATM fee isn't going to stop me. But, it may prevent me from randomly walking into a place I know nothing about.
