TOP THAI IN FLA
You might try Bangkok Palace on State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes (right by the often mentioned Silver Pond Chinese restaurant as well as Saigon City Vietnamese restaurant). The owners used to work at Thai Spice and they bring home cooked Thai dishes to a restaurant setting. The crispy garlic calamari is top notch - crisp, just the right amount of garlic and spice. They have a specialty house roll that comes with an out of this world dipping sauce. The rest of the dishes are very solid and taste home prepared - really solid thai food. You can get thai donuts with that killer condensed milk dipping sauce. The thai couple that own and run it are very nice and take their food very seriously. We tried to order one dish on the menu and they would not serve it - saying that they felt that although it was good, it was just not up to home cooked standards yet and they were still working on making the dish as authentically as possible. Great place worth a try.
Dim Sum in Dade, Broward or Palm Beach.
We were customers for Hong Kong BBQ for many years - it still makes us sad. Today we went looking for the best substitute we could find. Tried Toa Toa in Tamarac for dim sum. Overall the food is pretty good - the BBQ pork bun is less sweet than you might find other places. Other traditional dishes like the eggplant were just not quite as good as the old Hong Kong. Tried something different - the fried scallop - and it was ok but nothing special. We've already tried China Dumpling and the Great Lakes - pretty decent but not fabulous. The hunt will continue.
