Loved the report, looks like you really knew what you were doing over there! Couple questions: 1) Last time I went to Two Ladies, I recall that the strawberry mochi was not always available (i.e. only available certain days or preorder), but this was a few years ago. Do you recall whether or not that still the case? 2)You mentioned a loco moco with...fried rice and bacon? I'm intrigued...Would it have worked without the eggplant puree (I'm allergic) or do you really need it to give it the palate feel that the traditional loco moco gets from the gravy? |

I second the Sushi Gen recommendation. They do take reservations, but I believe only for large parties. If it's the two of you and you really do not want to wait, I would recommend arriving 15 minutes before they open (is it at 5 or 5:30??) to avoid having to wait an hour +. In addition to the dinners mentioned above (which, I agree, are a screaming deal given the quality of the fish) you can order a la carte, which is where you will find the veggie/tofu options for your friend. Veggie tempura is also a possibility. However, ns1 is correct as vegetarian is DEFINITELY not their forte. Hope you enjoy! |

Best Restaurant in the State of Kentucky.... Note, all of these are in Louisville: I saw some older mentions of Jack Fry's and I had to chime in - Jack Fry's has really, really gone downhill. We ate there about 6 months ago and it was hands down the worst meal we had in Louisville. (Repeat as needed for emphasis). This was not a matter of it being overhyped. It was legitimately bad. I concur with the people who (vehemently) recommended that people try Proof on Main. I am from Los Angeles and I have to say that Proof is my favorite restaurant, of all time, anywhere. Be prepared to order several of their artisan cocktails or harder to get bourbons (our bill was usually 80% booze, 20% food). When my husband and I lived at Fort Knox we would argue over who was DD and make the 45 minute drive to eat there at least once a month. Our last meal there before we moved, I had the sous vide short ribs. That amazing meal will haunt my dreams forever. We also liked 732 Social, but more for the cocktails and less so for the food. Seviche is great if you like fish and mojitos. They fly their fish in (thank you, UPS world hub in Louisville) and it is as fresh as you would find on either of the coasts. Jeff Ruby's is also good, they have the best wine list in the area (and the mark up is only 2x, versus the 3x that I am used to). I will say that their steaks are incredibly overseasoned and you will not be able to taste whether or not your meat was dry aged. Also, every time I ordered medium rare it came out cold (not cool) in the center. Which was actually ok for me since I only order MR and not Rare because my husband gets grossed out when my ribeye is still mooing. |

We've been here for four months and I confess we have not had great luck with non-chains near Post (we typically drive down to Austin to eat anywhere other than Chipotle or Whataburger). However, we recently went to Petty's BBQ off of Fort Hood Street and it blew us away. Beef, pork, sides, it's all fantastic. I will say that this place is more for those who will appreciate the meat itself, although their sauce was also very good. |
