Are there any cheap Charm City copy cats?

I second Mary Elliott, she made my wedding cake years ago, and it was wonderful. She alternated flavors - using my grandmother's vanilla butternut recipe and then a devil's food type chocolate. Everyone raved about the cake!!

If anyone is looking for a cake on the Eastern Shore (OC, Bethany or Rehoboth), check out Sweet Disposition in Williamsville. Their Devil's Own cake is AMAZING!!

Recommendations: Maryland Eastern Shore in Winter

We just had a great dinner at Mason's in Easton (24 minutes from the Hyatt). We started with oysters on the half shell, and a tomato and onion tart - YUM! The tart was layers of tomato and carmelized onions, topped with balsamic vinegar. Out of this world. The oysters were good too! For dinner, we both opted for the lite fare menu and had burgers. They were tasty, served with a side of fries that had spices and shaved parmesan on them. VERY GOOD. For dessert, hubby had the chocolate bourbon pecan pie and I had the chocolate and vanilla creme brulee. I think I will be dreaming about that for weeks to come!! Dinner for two was $83 before tip. Service was quick and friendly. We will go back!

New Year's Day brunch in Baltimore?

Not sure if they are open on New Year's Day, but Miss Shirley's always gets my vote for breakfast/brunch.

Recommendations: Maryland Eastern Shore in Winter

We had a disappointing experience at Suicide Bridge on Sunday evening. Service was friendly, but the food was lacking. The cream of crab soup tasted like cream of potato - very little flavor, with what I would swear was hunks of potato in it. The crab dip did not have much flavor either. Crab cakes, on the other hand, were full of herbs, but still disappointing. I prefer the Timbuktu style, with big hunk of jumbo lump - Suicide Bridge's were not lacking in crab meat (although they did not have any jumbo lump in them), they did have tons of herbs - I felt like they had been made with a stuffing mix. Not the worst I have ever had by any means, but not my favorite either. My DH had an oyster combo- fried oysters, oysters rockefeller, suicide oysters and oyster stew. The only ones he cared for were the fried oysters - the other two did not have much taste. Dinner for the 2 of us was about $53 before tip.

My husband and I are spending a few days at the Hyatt now, and wanted to chime in on a fabulous dinner we had last night. We had dinner at Bobby's, at the Cleaview Country Club. (I beleive this would be the country club with the Sunday brunch someone else mentioned). We started with their crab dip, which was different than most I have ever had, and was flavorful. It had some spinach in it, but not overrun by it. Served with crostini and assorted crackers. I had the nuts and berries salad (spring mix with blue cheese, strawberries, blackberries and candied walnuts - YUM!!), hubby had a basic house salad that was good. For the main course, my DH had a rockfish special that was amazing - his jaw dropped at the first bite. I had Pop's Chicken (sauteed chicken breast with smithfield ham and crab), and was very pleased. For desert, chocolate bread pudding for him, and an ice cream martini for me. Both were great! All in, dinner for 2 was $111 before tip, with 3 drinks (scotch, kahlua and a port). Service was very good, our only disappointment was that since we were there so late we couldn't see the beautiful view of the river! We will definitely return to Bobby's!!

Business Dinner in Baltimore

I cannot imagine Tio Pepe's being less than $40/person. We were there 2 weeks ago and spent $150/couple for an average dinner.

Good Eats Between Baltimore and Frederick?

I have to second the Baldwin's Station suggestion. We have had great experiences every time we have dined there. Service has been attentive, and the food has been wonderful!

Sunday Brunch and/or Buffet around Inner Harbor

The Marriott Waterfront has a very nice brunch. (just make sure you go to the right Marriott - you do not want the one near the stadiums). The last time I was there, brunch was $20 or so, and had a wide selection of breakfast and lunch foods.

Grits?

My DH would definitely second this recommendation! he loves the grists at Miss Shirley's - we just have to make sure we don't go there too often ;)

Great Sunday breakfast in Baltimore - ideas?

Miss Shirley's. I found it on this board, and LOVE it! have friends and fmaily hooked now too. An easy drive from the Inner Harbor (take 83 North to Cold Spring lane, East. Go about 2 miles, when the road narrows to one lane, Miss Shirley's will be on your right.) They have a great variety, altough I would not recommend the pancakes. (unless you like heavy, doughy pancakes). I love the Maryland Omelete, Hubby raves about the savory grits. Prices are in about the 15-20 range.

Rehearsal Dinner Recs in Frederick, MD

How about Baldwin's Station in Sykesville? Not too far from Frederick, and a great atmosphere.

Food at or near Birchmere

Just wondering if some of these recommendations are still good? I am looking for a place that has good sandwiches or entrees in the $15-$20 range. I have eaten at the Birchmere, and would like to avoid that if possible.

Fogo De Chao?

I went once, and will not go back. I made reservations at least 3 weeks in advance. We were there before our reservation time, and were made to wait 45 minutes after the reservation time. There was no apology, no explanation, no comped drink/appetizer nothing. The price was WAY to high - about $170 per couple, and that only included 5 drinks for the table (5 total, not per person). For that kind of money, I'd much prefer The Capital Grille, Oceanaire or Tio Pepe. The service was chaotic, and the meat was very salty.

Best cream of crab soup in Annapolis?

Annie's Steak House on Kent Island (just across the Bay Bridge). Best Cream of Crab I have ever had.

Harris Crab House @ Kent Narrows

You have to try the cream of crab at Annie's in Kent Narrows. Just don't order anything else until you have eaten the soup - you probably won't have room! Its thick and rich and is absolutely amazing!

Milkshakes around Bmore

Chick-fil-a has very good shakes :)

Fractured Prune in Halethorpe

The Fractured Prune in Parkville is as good as the one in OC!!
