I am going with the three course menu with choices, which includes: Chef's canape, appetizer, entree, intermezzo and dessert. The other option was three course menu, with no options and an hour of passed canapes during the cocktail hour.
I am sure the canapes are scrumptious, but I just hate not getting on option in what I am eating. People can have drinks during the cocktail hour and then have dinner
That said, options for the entree are:

Porcini Flan with Alaskan Dungeness Crab
Black Truffle Dashi

Early Garlic and Almond Soup
Parsley Root and Parsley Purée with Shiitake Mushrooms

Organic Roasted Pencil Asparagus
Garden Herbs, Basil Dressing in a Comté Cloud

New England Big Eye Tuna
Marinated Japanese Turnip, Spicy Radish
Yuzu-Miso Dressing

Organic Connecticut Farm Egg
Organic Date Purée, Red Onion Confit, Pinot Noir

North Carolina Pink Shrimp and Cape Cod Sea Scallops
Alaskan Live Dungeness Crab, Point Judith Calamari
Ocean Herbal Broth

Salad of Boston Bibb, Red Watercress, Mache
Silk Blue Kale, Fresh Hawaiian Hearts of Palm
Julienne of Royal Trumpet Mushrooms

Thoughts?

HI everyone
Today is our wedding anniversary. I just got flowers from my husband and I just signed the contact with Bouley. I swear that signing my fist mortgage was a bit less exciting. YAY! So,now that the restaurant is settled can you help me pick the menu? Do not get excited, as my choices are rather limited, due to my financial limitations. Only in NYC are you talking about a dinner for 22, 7k and financial limitations! Anyway, I will post options later, to see if anyone has advice. In the meantime: THANK YOU NYC CHOWHOUNDERS!

Bouley it is! Just waiting for the contract, to sign and return. I honestly cannot thank all of you enough. Not only did you point me in the right direction, but you held my hand. I must say, that this just proves my husband's wisdom: People are inherently good. whenever people can help they almost always do! Thank you! Is there anything I can do for the amazing Chowhound community in return?
Thank you from my husband and myself!

Change of budget! Just got off the phone with my mother and she decide to help me get to a total of 7k for the evening. So now, please advise 4 Seasons or Bouley's Red room?
We had our wedding luncheon at the 4 seasons. The food is excellent, the service impeccable and it can be black tie. I like the fact that it has been around for a long time.
Love Bouley, never have been to a priavte event there.
Which one would you pick?

Yes, the price includes wine, but must add tip, which is 25-28% for private parties.
Cannot do any steakhouses, no matter how great the fish is.
What about the "21 club"? someone just told me they have availability.
Once again, Core Club anyone?

Leopard does not do private dinner parties for over 18. Did try Cafe Boulud, no luck. Would do a loft with a chef , but catering gets expensive fast. Any ideas?

Ok,so I have two options:
Grammercy Tavern and they are willing to accommodate even 23/24 or the Red Room at Bouley. All things being equal I would prefer Bouley, but Grammercy Tavern is way more affordable. At Bouley we are looking at least at 6500 for 22 people, while at Gramercy Tavern we are looking around 4500.
Any thoughts?
Other than that I am not sure if it should still be a black tie event. I am not the biggest fan of the GT private room, with its rustic americana decor. Ideas?

The Leopard only does private dinning for up to 18 people.
Grenouille is booked.
Le Bernardin is booked
Grammercy Tavern only does private dinning up to 22 people. And we are bween 22-24!
Waiting to hear back from Tocqueville and Daniel and it seems like the Red Room at Bouley might be available.
As far as the tux goes, I want to do Black tie as both my husband and I enjoy dressing up every once in a while. It is big birthday and I would like to make into a big event. Also, I know all our friends own tuxes and would feel comfortable.

The Modern, Craft and eleven Madison were fully booked. I was able to get a private dinning room at the Four Seasons, which is where we had our wedding luncheon years ago. We were very happy with both the food and the service, but I just did the numbers for a dinner for 22 people and it ends up costing: 6.930 WITHOUT wine/beverages! That is 315 per person without alcohol!
Ok, tmrrw morning I am calling Gramercy Tavern, Picholine,Le Bernardin and Tocqueville. Any other suggestions? Maybe something off the beaten path?
Thank you!

I love getting all this feedback, thank you!! My husband is an art dealer, so obviously already called the modern, but have to wait until Monday to hear back from them. I really hope we can do the scavenger hunt, as I suspect that would be his favorite part of the whole evening. Even though we are MOMA members, I have never been to the modern. Do you think it would be appropriate to make it into a black tie or are we going to look like out-of towners. Once again thanks for all the help.

Husband is turning 50. Surprise black tie dinner party. Where?

Hi everyone
Can anyone please recommend a place that can host a surprise dinner party for 20/25 guests? I am hoping to make it a black tie event, but can live with a tie. Husband is not a foodie, is all about ambiance, does not eat meat, but that doers not mean we are looking for a vegetarian restaurans . If possible would prefer a restaurant with a private room, but will look at anything. The love of my life is turning 50, so I really want to celebrate him. Ideas please? Thanks in advance!
Sandra
