The moment is near and we fly to NYC in the morning. Where would be the best place to enjoy Peking Duck? I have checked a couple of places (including the Peking Duck House) and they say a minimum of 4 people. We're subway and bus savy, don't mind a ride, we're staying in Midtown East and we're adventurous eaters. Thank you for your recommendations.

additionally, I went to Gente's website and was able to click on reservations and it showed availability for Saturday, Dec. 17 for 2 with a window of 6PM to 7:30PM. Hope that helps.

However, your budget for midtown is close and probably unrealistic unless you will add your gratuity to the $80.00. You can probably split an appetizer, have a nice pasta or main course, and split a dessert , drink iced tap water (my drink of choice when I don't want wine) and come out within budget if you add your gratutiy on top. I hate being rushed through a meal but on the last Saturday evening before Christmas Eve(the following Saturday), midtown will be crowded, restaurants will be filled to capacity, people will be standing in line, and I'm not sure you'll find any place near Grand Central that will not want to quickly turn tables to feed the masses. Since you've mentioned Grand Central, why not hop on a subway and at least get away from some of the masses? You'll see comments on this board about folks being rushed at $$$$$ places. Many restaurants are filling up with reservations and you're cutting it close. I hope you succeed in your mission.

I have always purchased Teuscher Champagne Truffles (somewhat sparingly due to the cost) on trips into the city. Quality is worth paying for but is there a acceptable quality replacement that might be less than the $3 to $4 each category? I would appreciate your recommendations...thanks

Thank you, I always considered Balducci's a destination. Some of my food "firsts" were there. It was magical at Christmas and Easter. I always wanted to eat at the noodle place across the street. Do you know if it is still there and if it is worth a try?

On each visit to the city, I lament the loss of this gem. Is there anything that resembles it? The bakery section and prepared foods were wonderful---not to mention the olives and deli meats.
