January 2013 Openings and Closings

Any ideas about what's going on with Henrietta's Table? I walked through the Charles Hotel inner patio area last night and it looks like the restaurant's been gutted. Is it closed for good?

Lunch Downton on Friday?

Hm ... Kebab House is fab food but maybe not "somewhere nice" as in tablecloths. Tablecloth nice in my book would be Petit Robert Central. I've had the omelette (great fries) and the salad nicoise - both yummy. They also had a strange vichyssoise and coffee (?!) soup that was weirdly good.

Love the Boston Kebab House in Liberty Square. The made to order salad line typically stretches out the door but the roll-ups and sandwhiches are only a small wait I think. I usually get the mezze bar, runs me about $8 with pita. Gorgeous food! They also have fairly ample seating downstairs. Much prefer it to Cafe de Boston on Franklin!!

Best Indian Takeout or Delivery near Harvard / Porter

Dhokla! You're right, they are actually chickpea not rice flour. So thank you, FoodDabbler. Saved me from having to dance around describing it!

Yes, exactly that! They fill them with other stuff than tamarind water too I think. While we're digressing, do you know what the name of the puffy rice-flour cornbread like confection is that I have seen on Indian buffets? They have it on the buffet at Bombay Mahal in Waltham too. Might have coconut on top? Love that stuff but have no idea how to order it without doing some kind of belly dance.

I've been to the Maharaja (Harvard Sq. in the Bombay Cafe location on JFK), once for dinner and once for the weekend buffet ($12 I think) and really liked it a lot. For dinner they do an interesting variation on the vegetable pakora where the spinach leaves somehow maintain their shape (sort of flat) and crispy. My DC had a passable chicken saag. The Sat. lunch buffet has a lot of unique-ish dishes as well. They make these little street food delicacies (dough shells filled with soup?). They don't seem to deliver but do take out.

Let’s make a list of obnoxiously loud restos

Firebrand Saints is pretty darn loud. And spendy! I got the whirred celery root with dates mezze as a side dish (so larger than the mezze) and it was $12 !?!

Mulan Cambridge Closed with Paper on Windows

Ok , called the Waltham location when the Cambridge phone wasn't answered. They will be re-opening in Cambridge tomorrow, 1/6/2012. What a relief; thought I'd have to high-ho out to Waltham for my dry bean curd with squid..

I think you're ok. They had a sign on the take-out counter a couple of weeks ago saying they would be closed between Christmas and New Years (not exactly sure of the dates).

November 2011 Openings and Closings

Hello world. First post.

Can't move our knowledge too far forward except to agree that:
a) the sandwich board is the same old yellow one as 2+ years ago,
b) there's additional signage on the 2nd floor (no longer basement) especially promoting their shabu (which I don't think original Shilla used to do),
c) the Staples employee sitting on the railing yesterday a.m. as I walked by had no idea what or where Shilla is/was.
