Taidan's Profile
backyard wedding catering - Pasadena, San Gabriel Valley, North Orange County
My wife and I got married in October, and I'd recommend the caterer we used--Simply Elegant in South Pasadena. The food was great, the price was reasonable, and the owner, Mike, couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating.
Stevie's Creole Cafe in Encino
I went a month or two ago. This place is overpriced and the food is bad. We drove across town to try it, got charged a cover just to eat in the corner of the bar, didn't get water for 15 minutes, no food, not even bread, for 45 mins. after that. Then when we got it, it was thoroughly mediocre. Skip it.
The Waffle -- worst restaurant experience EVER
Went to The Waffle on Memorial Day. Wasn't served for over an hour, at which point the waitress asked me again what my order was. Several tables around me were in the same boat, and when they got their food, after waiting 45-60 mins, it was cold or wrong. The cream they served was curdled. When the manager was told about all this, he didn't apologize and didn't help. The kitchen couldn't seem to get any order out or any order right, and management was of no use. The waitress, who was trying to get everyone their food but foiled at every turn, started crying from sheer stress. THIS PLACE IS A NIGHTMARE.
Avanti Cafe, my first time
I agree this isn't gourmet, but I like their pizza and love their garlic rolls. It's convenient to the Laemmle Playhouse theatre and I've been going here for years. The service is just okay, but the food is better than that. There's a reason it's been here as long as it has, and that it's always busy--quality.
New Place in Montrose! Que Buenno!
This place is well worth checking out. The fried olives are hot, juicy, and delicious. I found the tortilla de papa a bit bland. The bacon-wrapped date with chorizo was interesting but was a bit too sweet for my taste, but that's simply personal preference and no reflection on the dish. The churros are wonderful. I hope this place finds an appreciative clientele. BTW, the restaurant/bar across the street, The Fat Dog, is also a bit of a find--great onion rings, very tasty swedish meatballs.
Review w/ photos: Larkin's Eagle Rock
I'm mixed about Larkin's. The breakfasts are terrific, particularly those pancakes. The dinners are another matter. I was there last Friday night, and it was a full half hour after we were seated before the waiter introduced herself. It then took almost as long to get our food, and then the meals were somewhat disappointing. The jambalaya was watery and skimpy on the meats (I got one shrimp, a couple of pieces of sausage and a few pieces of chicken). My girlfriend ordered the pork chop, which she liked, but the red beans and rice bore no resemblance to anything from Louisiana, tasting just like baked beans from a can. The banana pudding was rich but a very small portion, and the berry cobbler was cold and somewhat flavorless. I can ignore the inconsistent food, but the service was really bad for dinner. The brunch service has been far better, and the food is superior. I will go back for brunch, but probably not for dinner.
Happy Hour in burbank
Bistro Verdu went out of business a month or two ago, unfortunately.
Happy Hour in burbank
Lasher's has closed, supposedly for renovations, to re-open in a couple of months.
