Noble Pig Burnet

Tasted the grits and ham and I thought it was good but super salty from the ham. The potatoes they served with the food wasn't nearly hot enough. The chocolate marshmallow cookie was outstanding though.

My list of Less Than Famous Central TX BBQ - Which ones?

I couldn't even finish my BBQ in Luling. Locals there will say otherwise but I'd recommend you stay away. I like Coopers but their brisket isn't great shakes but they do great steaks, sausage and prime rib. Can't speak to the others. If you are that close to Luling just go to Lockhart and go to Black's or Smittys. Great stuff.

They've expanded the breakfast menu, old location has a much more limited offering.

Graduation party for 20 in May

Take Hillside off the list. The food isn't anything special the service is horrendous. Z Tejas is good, depends on how "special" you want the dinner to be.

Qui Reservation system sucks

If it was my choice I wouldn't have gone but it wasn't..
I have to say though I really enjoyed the meal. We ordered ala carte rather than do the tasting. In retrospect as cute as they were the sashimi and veggie plates weren't really necessary or worth the cost. My fish toast tasted good but the bread kinda fell apart quickly and I almost lost some of my fish. When you are dealing with modest portions like these you kind of covet every bit that they do give you.
The highlights, the beef rice, braised short rib and rabbit, although not 5 ways or 7 ways apparently there's a shortage of available rabbit. The cheddar cheese ice scream sandwich was interesting but not what I like about ice cream sandwiches. I probably would have enjoyed eating it more if it was served as cone, which the shell is. the best part of eating a cone is when the ice cream has begun to seep into it.. The structure of the dish doesn't allow that.
I'd go back but only for a snack.
I'm not much of a drinker but the Sangria was the best I or my companion ever had. Summer in a glass.

Noble Pig Burnet

I had breakfast at the old location a few times. Very good stuff but the portions were outrageously small. Not being greedy but two breakfasts equal like one at a normal, even a European, restaurant. I do have to say though that they had the decency to make it cheap.

Birthday Dinner Suggestions

Odd Duck, Barley Swine, Uchiki? For a special occasion I love the Carrilion, I get the tasting menu. Not small plates but still very good. Awesome!

Qui Reservation system sucks

It's a celebration dinner it was either this place or Uchiko. Neither choice was mine. I'd rather go to the Carillion or Flemings .
What was disappointing about?

Qui Reservation system sucks

Trying to plan a dinner and their system is impossible. They have people that answer the one at the restaurant but you can't get a reservation through them. Instead you must send an email, and it takes two days or more for a reply. An exchange that could take 2 minutes on the pone has now taken a week and I still don't know if I'll get a table. I know the place is supposed to be good but how will it fair after the hype dies down if they continue treating people that this way? I can't imagine the benefits of a system like this. Why have reservations at all?

Ask 5 Guys.. If I recall they have them stacked up. I can't imagine they keep them. I think Mighty Fine might too.

Coming to Austin for the first time this weekend

I don't know if it's very Austinie but it's pretty good food. FYI it's tapas.
If the OP wants fine dining I'd recommend Hudson. Lots of game meat on the menu and the place is kinda cool. But it's not a hip young place at all.
GF had very good oysters at Lambert's for what it's worth.

Evening BBQ establishment?

Very few nightime options for superior BBQ. Iron Works isn't great but they don't run out of stuff. Same for Black's in Lockhart, but honestly it isn't worth the drive. Best option is Salt Lick Dripping Springs. Otherwise buy some La BBQ on Sunday and have it for him when he gets in Monday.

Mettle

I went today, had the pancakes and one of my companions had the fried chicken. First of all the fried chicken has no skin. It's whole pieces, not some kind of filet, but it's s a cracker/flour shell. That's not in the menu description but it's kinda a big deal if you like fried chicken for the skin. The flavor wasn't bad, lots of herbs in the crust, but the chicken wasn't particularly moist and eating that much crust wasn't great texture wise for me. The pancakes were okay but not great. The creame on the side was a nice touch but I don't think it really added much. At $14 for 3 pancakes and two pieces of porkbelly it was a little higher than it should have been. You are basically paying for the pork belly. An egg or two wouldn't have broken the bank and made it feel a bit more complete and gone well with the pork belly.
Service was adequate but not great. Even though it was half empty we had to ask to get more water, etc.
Overall it was just okay and not worth going back to. On the plus side though there is plenty of parking and the decor is nice. I could see the place being a cool happy hour spot for drinks only.

Best "Bang for Your Buck" Steak in Town

You'll want to go to Specs, it's like a Costco for liquor. I'm told the prices are quiet cheap.

Can't speak to El Monumento but Monument Cafe has really good brunch but the place is a mad house that time of day on Sunday. Expect to wait at least a half hour.
