Larned, KS - suggestions

Thanks, I did check the KS travel website but he didn't have anything for Larned. We didn't find anything either, a few turned up on searches that are no longer in business. We ended up just grabbing a quick burger at Wendys and went on about our business

pork shoulder steaks/chops? Brine or marinade?

I like to do them St Louis style. On hot grill to brown on both sides. I only use s&p. Then into a bath of 1/2 bbq sauce and 1/2 beer. Cover with foil and cook on cool side of grill (move all coals to one side or have one side of gas grill unlit) 1-1&1/2 hours. I use a disposable foil pan. I've never had them come out anything but tender

Rye in Kansas City, MO - anyone tried it?

My son and dil took me to Rye at Mission Farms for my birthday in July. As far as I know it's not in KCMO. Anyway the meal was excellent, a lot of local stuff!

A Call for the difficult, the labor intensive, and the cheapest recipes

Me either! I'm getting some of that to keep on hand. Especially after I shaved off a piece of my thumb last weekend on the mandolin

Five second rule.

My thing is, if I can rinse it, I'll use it. But not straight off the floor! If I can't rinse, trash

Orzo pasta

Saute onions and garlic in olive oil. Add one can of chix stock for each cup of orzo, Bring broth to a boil, add orzo. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally until mostly absorbed. Stir in parmesan (I like lots) and serve. Simple and delicious

Rick Bayless' Slow cooker chicken with tomatillos, potatoes, jalapenos and fresh herbs. I have it in my crockpot right now, smells really good. There are really good reviews for it too.

Slow cooker mac and cheese?

I have made this recipe from Trisha Yearwood and we all thought it was good. It does start with cooked pasta but we didn't find it to be mushy

I think the problem is the concept of the show. $10 dinners? I don't remember what her idea was but that's what they gave her

Summer Oatmeal (cold)

Yes, that's how I learned this from my Dad. 1 cup oats to 1 pint ot soy milk. He added raisins but I don't care for them so I usually use apricots. You can eat on this for a few days, With the apricots, I like to add a little honey when serving. I don't think they're as sweet as raisins. You could add pretty much anything.

Trisha Yearwood's New Show: Will you watch?

I made the m&c yesterday and we all thought it was very good. And it reheats beautifully, I'm eating some leftover for lunch right now. It is still very moist and I really like it. I thought about adding cayenne and dry mustard but decided to try her way first. Very flavorful and it doesn't need the spices. I did make it her way with all the cheese and full fat milk and evap milk so that probably helped. I will definitely make again
