Chopped All-Stars Finale (5/6/2012) [SPOILERS]

I think the problem is the concept of the show. $10 dinners? I don't remember what her idea was but that's what they gave her

Summer Oatmeal (cold)

Yes, that's how I learned this from my Dad. 1 cup oats to 1 pint ot soy milk. He added raisins but I don't care for them so I usually use apricots. You can eat on this for a few days, With the apricots, I like to add a little honey when serving. I don't think they're as sweet as raisins. You could add pretty much anything.

Trisha Yearwood's New Show: Will you watch?

I made the m&c yesterday and we all thought it was very good. And it reheats beautifully, I'm eating some leftover for lunch right now. It is still very moist and I really like it. I thought about adding cayenne and dry mustard but decided to try her way first. Very flavorful and it doesn't need the spices. I did make it her way with all the cheese and full fat milk and evap milk so that probably helped. I will definitely make again

Creamy Garlic Dressing Recipe? (Chicago style)

April 2012 COTM: Melissa Clark Month, In the Kitchen with a Good Appetite: Chapters 3, 4, and 5

Probably just contrary, too fresh I suppose. He thinks the sweet potatoes with mini marshmallows sometimes served at thanksgiving, are the way to go.

April 2012 COTM: Melissa Clark Month, In the Kitchen with a Good Appetite: Chapters 3, 4, and 5

Yes, I also made it this week. I used b/s thighs. It went over very well with my family except for one of my adult children. He ate it (which says something right there) but said he didn't necessarily want it again. Everyone else loved it! I had the leftovers the next day for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it again. Oh, and I served with spinach sauteed with garlic.

Mexican Easter Ideas

Ooh yeah, these parsi deviled eggs are very good. One of the two versions I make every year for easter. Even though they're called parsi, they have lime juice, jalapenos, cilantro. /They would be perfect for a mexican easter celebration.

Anyone Else Planning for Thanksgiving Already?

Thanks, good to know. I'm think I'll add them to our Christmas eve spread. I'll note your changes and the fig jam sounds like an excellent idea. Bonus - make ahead!

Anyone Else Planning for Thanksgiving Already?

Thanks, but if you're making them this weekend, I definitely won't be making them before that. Let me know what you think

Why does my home-made whipped cream for salted caramel pie taste horrible?

+2 I say it was the cream also. I remember that happening one holiday and my mom said the cream was "blinky".

Help for Christmas dessert for in-laws, please?

This weekend I made a pumpkin cheesecake with maple pecan topping that I saw on food network's "Dessert First" show. I don't remember the name of the chef. It definitely is make ahead and very simple. The topping only has 3 ingredients and I could've just eaten it by the spoonful. I took it to a family gathering and everyone loved it. Not even one negative comment.

Ideas? Repurposing Pot Roast!

Taquitos! Chop up some meat finely and add cheese.

freezing cooked bacon

Ah, I could just let it thaw in the frig, seperate into slices and refreeze. I think I would like it better anyway if it was cooked after freezing. I heard somewhere that the only reason not to refreeze meat or anything for that matter is that it may affect the texture. Don't know how true that is but it sounds pretty good
