my kitchen was literally rotting out. we saved and saved and just redid it a year ago. saved on ikea cabinets and splurged on the stove and hood. extra oven is ikea that we got at 20% off during the kitchen sale.

i hope i didn't so too jerky.

ringing endorsement!

oh, i don't plan on driving (or being able to drive). I live on the redline. the hubs will most likely drop us off. he's really sweet like that! and i can cab it home.

another suggestion please

thanks. probably not too far.

thanks for the tip. i go to trade often. looking to mix it up a bit.

kitchenaid mixer
immersion blender
vitamix
pressure cooker
jura capresso (per the hubs)
and my new stove with the really high btu burners. my stirfrys have improved immensely.
my second oven has really been a game changer
high powered exhaust hood has made a huge difference, too.

i'm looking to eat at a resto and then hit a bar either in the resto or at a place nearby. it hadn't occured to me to eat at the bar until Velda Mae suggested Rialto.

sorry if i was unclear.

the bar menu looks fantastic, too. if i can score i table rather than a backless bar stool, this place gets my vote! i wonder if you can reserve them.

my friend and i have the opportunity to go out next saturday sans husbands and 5 year olds. you were all so helpful with the nonvday vday suggestions, i was hoping you could suggest a place where two friends pushing 40 could go and have dinner and maybe find a seat at a bar for a drinks in the neighborhood. I'd like to stay in boston. fort point/south end/back bay. i'd venture into cambridge. any cuisine and most price points under menton are on the table. thanks in advance.

Un-impressed with Vitamix

i hear that getting cut while cleaning your ninja is an inevitability at some point. no pun intended.

i've never had a problem with it pureeing berry or chia seeds. i usually put those ingredients in first. but my frozen strawberries go on top, and nary a seed has been stuck in my teeth come to think of it.

Costly culinary tools that you own that don't get much use, or that have caused you buyers remorse.

i bought a flavor shaker years ago and gave one as a gift. after i used mine once, i felt badly about the gift. got rid of mine a long time ago.

Would you shop at Walmart Neighborhood Market?

not even a little.

a 2 hp lawnmower engine with a glass container sounds like a trip to the ER waiting to happen.

i get a kick out of people who are disappointed/concerned that the container is made of plastic rather than glass. instances like this make one grateful that container isn't glass.

i know this isn't really germane to the conversation, but worth a mention.

Kitchen Aid Mixers? Are they really the best?

i love my pro 600. ten years and still going strong. this weekend i made 2 loaves of pumpkin bread, three loaves of cinnamon raisin bread, rolled pasta for lasagna, and churned 2 batches of ice cream.

A Round of Applause for Chris Coombs and other great restaurant folks

224 Boston Street stays open, too.

non vday vday dinner

my first reaction to the fries was that they were just like mcdonald's.

great meal. thank you everyone for all of the help.

dozen oysters. 6 barnstable/6 onset. cold and pristene and briny and delicious

wedge salad. the dressing was bleu cheese and very vinegary. it was great to cut through the fatty bleu cheese are lardons

me, the non steakhouse girl, had the bone in filet with mushrooms and potato cakes and asparagus. medium rare. perfectly cooked.

the hubs had the food and wine special. woefully under cooked. a good vet could have resuscitated it. and i like my steaks on the rarer side. hubs never sends things back. he did this time. it came back slightly deader but still under cooked. his reheated leftovers last night were perfect.

fries and onion rings. fries amazing. rings like stephanies. gigantic and come on a paper towel holder. probably wouldn't order again.

the gianduja dessert and sticky toffee pudding were really good. not cloying at all. the coffee was bad.

i really want to go back and order a non steak entree (the fried chicken looked crazy good). and i think our five year old (if we went on the earlier side) would fit right in. there were a few tables with high chairs at them. very well behaved kids.

again, thank you all.

again, thanks for all the suggestions as to time and location and atmosphere.

we made reservations at boston chops at 6:45 tonight. i'll let you know how it is. it looks steakhouse-y without being too steakhouse-y.

any feedback on our choice? i hope i'm not a Popsicle by the time i get there from financial district.

thanks to you all. the early bird dining that MaxE suggested is probably the way to go.

we love ctown, and jumbo and peach farm are 2 of our favorites. also like dbar. it's very close, and we take the little guy there. we have given up on ashmont grill. i really like tavolo, but hubs doesn't for some reason.

raw bar at row 34 is great. i've had misses on their other offerings. am i the only one?
