Crock Pot Chicken?

you can do this. i'd start with frozen chicken and poach in the broth no more than 4 hours. but that's the only way i'll cook BS chicken in my slow cooker be it in salsa, franks buffalo, or stock.

VitaMix Blender, is it worth it?

the thing that sold me on that vs the 5200 was the pulse feature.

thanks again. they turned out great (i went for 40 and 15 minutes natural release). quick question, when you say under an hour from start to finish, does that include browning and letting the pressure come down naturally for 15 minutes?

French door refrigerators...

I have a samsung 28 cf french door fridge (which is the same dimensions as the 24-26 CF models believe it or not). and from someone who had the space, i went with fewer bells and whistles. no water dispense, but i did get an ice maker in the freezer. and ours has 3 normal doors. counter depth was only 21 CF. the same size as our old almond color top freezer amana. we went full depth, and although i agonized over it, i'm so glad i went full depth. i couldn't be happier.

I have never eaten at _______ and I never will!

i live in boston proper (within practically walking distance of one). my 5 y/o son loves the OG (as he calls it). I go there more frequently than i care to admit. and if i stick to the soup and salad it is cheaper than panera (i know, i know -- he also loves the mac and cheese there). i have no excuses. i could refuse to take him to these places. t's in a strip mall with a target and an old navy, home depot etc... in my defense we've never been to the applebee's (which he calls the apple store).

he does enjoy more chowish fare and never orders off the childrens menu when we eat out. he kills it at a japanese restaurant, too. do i need to turn in my chow card? in his lunch today is homemade soup with pasta and beans and homemade applesauce. i feel like i need to justify my existence now. i

*hangs head in shame*

newbie needs help from all you sourdough bakers!

you'll be fine. add now or later. as long as your next feed you adjust so it looks like pancake batter you'll be fine. i only used flour (white & rye) and water for my starter. check out the cheeseboard collective cookbook. it's seriously amazing.

how long do you cook yours? the recipe times vary wildly from 30-60 minutes. most with natural pressure release. i was thinking 40 would be good.

also, any favorite recipes? I was going to brown, remove, saute aromatics, deglaze with some beer or wine, add the meat back in and enough beef stock to come up halfway and let her go for the right amount of time. remove, defat, serve with polenta, i think.

VitaMix Blender, is it worth it?

again, thank you. i've started doing meal replacement shakes in the morning. and (first world problem alert) it takes a bit of time to get the vortex going, and the seeds never disappear from the fruit. i also like to make my salsa in the blender. soups would be a whole new ball game. will look for those links now! what would you recommend for someone with a cuisinart and a stand mixer? i don't need to grind grain, but is grinding spices or coffee an option? i'm not sure i need a ton of bells and whistles. I will wade up thread to see if i can find the answers.
what else do you make in yours? again, sorry to hijack the thread. hope i'm not asking things that have been answered.

What's the best recipe off a supermarket item label you have made recently?

I read an article by Jeffrey Steingarten where he made this recipe, and he said it was indistinguishable from actual apple pie. i still can't wrap my head around it.

Refrigerator...any recent Fisher Paykel vs Samsung thoughts

how many cubic feet is a 33 inch counter depth? i agonized over counter vs standard. counter was so very small. 21 cubic feet even in 36 inches. which was the same size as my almond colored amana to freezer model. in my house, there are three of us. and one of us is 5. but i love to cook, and we all love to eat. i went standard depth samsung french door, bottom freezer, no water dispenser. and i am looooooving it.

Simplify my cooking knowledge?

oh, my blue collared husband would be heartbroken if he found a post like this authored by me.... but to answer your question, somewhat:

my husband very much has an adventurous and sophisticated palate. and has since we've met. no adaptations necessary in that area. however, i do find when i make a blast from his past, my version, as he kindly tell me, is usually superior. pot roast, corned beef and cabbage, chicken pot pie. make it from scratch and make it better. let that be your spring board. perhaps they'll like the fresh herbs instead of dried or processed herbs in a stuffing. and you can make a different dish using fresh herbs and spices. freshen things up.

Should I get a 6 QT or 8 QT pressure cooker?

I would go with the 8. i agree with kaleo, the footprint between 6 and 8 would be similar so the additional space it would take up would be mostly vertical. i have a household of three including a 5 year old, but i like to make extras for leftovers. corned beef especially. and it was great for a dinner party i had last week. risotto for 6 in 6 minutes.

i hear when all is said and done the canned puree is just as good if not better than making it from the real deal. the things we do for our little ones.

pumpkin pie recipe

my little guy wants to make pumpkin pie from real pumpkins. I have the pumpkins. they were billed as the pie kind at the orchard. i assume that i just sub the cooked pulp for canned evenly. i have only ever used the libby's recipe on the can, which is perfectly serviceable once a year. but if someone has an outstanding recipe, i'd be happy to give it a go.
