Grilled Citrus Chicken

This is my second time making this chicken. It was wonderful and we are looking forward to having it again. Thank you very much for a great "keeper" chicken recipe. Bev

What is your "go to" meal when there is too much month left at the end of the paycheque - past or present

Make your very own pot of wonderful, savory pot of beans and cornbread. What is left, if any, hubby eats cold on bread the next day.

A good time to clean out the fridge and make a wonderful pot of minestrone soup!! I LOVE soup almost all kinds.

Typical Foods of Every State/Region of US?

Chris...good old fashioned clam chowder, Steaned clams with a cup of butter for each person for dunking. (I think I could eat a bushel by myself.) fried clams. Wonderful friend haddock, onion rings and french fries. Now we can't say this is non fattening, but boy it is food for the kinds. Enjoy.

When Should Bartenders Cut You Off?

I used to work in a very high class resteraunt and after dinner, I took on the extra duty of serving in the lounge. If a customer is drunk, call the manager of the establishment. One man was so bad, we put him (and his driver up in the hotel which was attatched to keep him safe). He was well off, young and his Dad had provided him with a caretaker.

Save-A-Lot and paying for bags

I know, it is hard for any of us on a fixed income to have all the increases (medical is over the moon more expensive --- not to thread drift). But I do think we need to do away with a lot that isn't recycled yet. And talk about pre-packaged stuff. It is crazy to see the designs and waste in the packaging.

Reusable tote bag frustration

Here too. Our stores all have signs that say, "DON"T FORGET YOUR BAGS". So, they encourage it. I would say it is about 50% here.

We are the same John. We could go once a month but not in summer when it is over 100 degrees. And I don't want critters so every week is by far the best way. But We don't use much in the way of processed foods either, so very litte waste. No soda, etc.

Reusable tote bag frustration

I won't use anyone's (grocery bag name). I use a Loew's bag and I bought 10 of them. That way, no matter what grocery store I am in, I am not hurting anyone's feelings. I have One place for meat and fruit and veggies especially. And one for other things like cofee, etc. So wouldn't use the "wrong" bag. :-) As for putting them back in the trunk, everything has a place and I can't stand it if anything isn't put "away immediately". but, I do it myself.

Save-A-Lot and paying for bags

The only veggie I buy pre-packaged is potatoes. Even then, I sometimes choose one at a time as for some reason we get a lot that have mildew on them.! That I don't need in my home. The larger plastic bags at the grocery, rarely need to be used for any of my foods. But, if they were used, they do get recycled. As do all cans, bottles, paper, etc. We are a very recycle conscious town. It is mandatory recycling here.

I will definitely give that a try. I have 10 that I NEED each week. They are good, big and sturdy. I don't want to have to purchase new ones. We recycle EVERYTHING. So no matter how many small plastic bags I use to pkg my meats, etc., they get used again. We have two bins in the kitchen with lids. One for recycles and one for real trash. Our town recycles EVERYTHING.

Save-A-Lot and paying for bags

I realize the issues involved Freia. However, I do what my husband requests and it is my dime that I spend when he requests that I bag each fruite or vegetable separately. Then they go into my Big Bags that I bring with me. I still want to keep my BIG reusable bags clean on the inside and when meat ends up crushing my bread and the juice is running all over, I really don't appreciate it. JMHO

And they don't bag it. I don't mind the cost, but I always bring my own bag and I open it up (It has a flat bottom and they stay open) and they still won't put it in my big bag. I don't shop there anymore. As you can see above. It is a small thing, but I think pretty silly of them since they are open and I am holding it open, they drop...and I mean drop the items in the cart.

Curious, do you bag single veggies in the store or not?

Yes, I bag them. My quick way of getting everything to the conveyer belt. My husband will get VERY angry with me if I don't bag each one.

Grocery store pet peeve. Is it just me?

I did pretty well all the way through the store and patiently waited while a man and woman had their yearly catchup conversation in front of the hamburger. I needed. So I waited. And Waited....you get the idea....15 minutes later they moved an inch so I could get in. Then when I got to the register with my $200 worth of food, the woman behind me with a bratty 10 year old started throwing her stuff on the belt before I was even done and still being run up....I almost threw the bar at her I was so spitting mad!!!

Grocery store pet peeve. Is it just me?

I agree with you on that one MOF. Not necessary to be such an inconsiderate shopper. People are busy these days and time is valuable to almost all of us. Sometimes I think I have a sign on my back that says, "ask me any questions about shopping you would like". It drives my husband nuts. I guess I just look like I won't chew anyone's head off if they need help.

Grocery store pet peeve. Is it just me?

In my case I do need my purse. I have breathing problems from allergies and have to carry a breathing thingamajig with me. Sometimes people use perfume as a deodorate I guess and I will start the non-breathing episode which can be very embarassing to me. Then there are tissues because the ladies room never has tissue. Also every store asks for ID with picture even tho' we have their store cards and have been shopping there for 30 plus years. But, I always have everything ready and waiting for the cashier to ring in the final amt. I'm with Karen on this one. They shouldn't start ringing up your items until the other party is gone!! JMHO

I hear you....that is my pet peeve. But I try to control myself and if I could whistle, I'd whistle a tune while they chatted. That might get their attention. :-) Bev

Hi Tazia, I used to have a wonderful pet bunny and she was housebroken too. She would snuffle up on the couch with me. I love all animals and yours must be lots of fun. Bev

Average Grocery Bill-for 2

For two of us, no alcohol or soda, no children but one very fussy kitty. It averages about $125 a week. Special occasions of course are much higher if the family comes home for dinner. I try to buy one treat every week for my husband. Special chocolate. I buy organic ginger tea which is $4.59 once a week and try not to drink more than one cup a day. Even tho' we are on a small fixed income, I try to share with the food banks as I know there are those even worse off than we are. I thank GOD every day that we have enough.

I forgot to mention....we do NOT eat out.

Save-A-Lot and paying for bags

We get charged 10 cents per bag but it is ok with me. I bring my own bags but I do use their tear off bags for my veggies and meat that could leak into my "good" shopping bag. I now need to wash them tho' and it is beginning to make me nervous that they won't come out well.

Don't let anyone else ruin your good luck. Just let them know the woman asked you into her line as she had no customers at the time. and smile. Some clerks do like to work it makes their day go a lost faster.

Chocolate-Pecan Pudding Pie with Nut Crust

Amazing recipe. Thank you. I had to moderate it a lot because of family health issues but it still came out great. Gluten free, lactose free and sugar free. Next I am going to use your recipe to make cookies on a sheet pan. They are so yummy!!! You gave me a keeper. God Bless you all.
