Pittsburgh/Bethel Park area

Thank you for the recs. I spent Friday night and Saturday morning with him and we went to Someone Else's Bar on Friday and Dorido's for an early lunch on Saturday before I headed back home to Cleveland. We really liked both a lot. Best of all is that both of them are only 2-3 miles from where he is living. We drove past Pasta Too and I pointed that out to him. The parking lot was jammed pack on Friday around 8.

I'll send him the rest of the suggestions. Thanks again for your help. Please keep them coming.

Pittsburgh/Bethel Park area

My husband will be spending the next 2-4 months working in downtown Pittsburgh and living in Bethel Park. I would appreciate some suggestions on casual restaurants near Bethel Park. He does have full kitchen access in the house he is renting, so he will be cooking a lot of his own meals, so I am looking more for places where he can get a good burger and fries, wings, sandwiches, and pizza. Bado's Pizza Grill and Alehouse would be more to his liking than Bado's Cucina. He's not at all into most ethnic cuisines, except for Italian. Thanks for any help.

Elkridge/Annapolis in July

Thank you Foi Gras and Ivysmom. Is the brunch at Elkridge Furnance Inn good. That's one of our higher end meals planned. Pioneer pit beef sounds great, thank you. I'll have to be sure Pappas (and yes that was another highly touted place). Thanks for your input.

Elkridge/Annapolis in July

I will be in Elkridge, MD the weekend of July 18-21. We will have a car, so can get wherever but would like to stay in the Elkridge and Annapolis area. I don’t want to go into the Inner Harbor or Fells Point area of Baltimore.

I am in search of crab cakes and pit beef. I’ve been doing some research in Chowhound and thought I had some great places for crab cakes (G&M, Timbuktu, Gunnings to name a few) only to read that Gunning’s is currently closed and that a lot of places use non-local canned crab. Heck, I can get that here in Cleveland and make my own 

So, I am looking for a place that serves crab cakes with little or no filler using Maryland crab. I also found (mostly) good reviews for Olive Grove, Annapolis Seafood Market and The Edgewater restaurant. Any other suggestions or should I just forgo the crab cake and go to Cantler’s (or any other place?) for real MD crabs? I also need a place that has decent carnivore fare since my husband is not into seafood.

I would also like some recommendations for pit beef sandwiches, which I just learned was a Baltimore favorite. I thought I hit the one I was looking for when I came across Big Fat Daddy’s, but it seems they moved to PA and do catering and festivals only and is not open to the public. What are some other good places?

Thanks for any help.

Windsor ON near Casino for weekday lunch

Thanks everyone for the info. We ended up walking to Bubi's and had a very fun lunch. We ordered the pizza crusts and Bryan's poutine. Granted, not a very healthy lunch, but we did walk there and back and heck, you can't get poutine in Cleveland. Though I do realize it's not an "authentic" poutine, but it was strangely addictive. Thanks again.

Windsor ON near Casino for weekday lunch

It's been a few years since I've been, but will be taking a casino bus trip next Wednesday. I have made it to Tunnel BBQ, Sir Cedric's for fish and chips (both within walking distance) and Smoke n Spice, where we took the bus on my 3 previoius trips, but like I said, it's been a few years. Wouldn't mind going back to any of these, but wondering if there are any new casual places to try near the Casino. Pizza, deli sandwiches, subs, Asian etc. I did see that the SnS people opened a new burger place. Would it be worth taking a bus to check it out. Also, any bakeries, ice cream places, specialty dessert places to check out in the area. Thanks much for any suggestions.

Brooklyn MI

I'll be visiting a friend who has a cottage in Brooklyn, MI in early October. I'll be driving from Cleveland along Route 20 to Route 23/223 to Route 52? to Route 12. I avoid the highways as much as possible. Are there any good eats out that way or places to stop and buy food to take to her cottage? Any cider mills, farmer's markets, etc. Thanks for any help.

Keaton's Barbecue

Yes, I did get some of both sauces to take home. When vacationing, I ignore the souvenir shops and head to the grocery stores, markets, and restaurants.

Keaton's Barbecue

Timing worked out great and got to Keaton's just at 5 p.m. We shared a 1/2 chicken dinner with coleslaw and potato salad and got a whole chicken to go. Fabulous! Warmed up the whole chicken the next day per lynnlato's advice and it was fabulous too.

Great NC trip from this Cleveland, OH chowhound. Finally made it it to Lexington #1 after trying for the 4th time to get there when they were actually open (meatn3 - I feel your pain :)

Should you ever find your way up north to Cleveland, OH, let me know. Thanks again for your help

Ribs in Eastern NC

Many, many thanks to all of you. We ended up getting ribs from Smokey's - it was exactly the type of place I wanted to go to. We had some smoked bbq wings with mac n cheese and onion rings as sides. The mac n cheese was pretty bland, but stirring in some of their sauce really zipped it up a bunch. The onion rings were very good. My friend will be very happy with my gift of chopped barbecue from Lexington #1 and the ribs from Smokey's The timing worked out great for our trip home.

If you ever need some rec's for Cleveland, OH - just let me know. Thanks again.

Ribs in Eastern NC

Sorry for the confusion - we're taking I-40 from Raleigh to I-77 near Winston-Salem and heading north until we end up in Lake Erie. Y es, I know ribs are not really considered barbecue here, but that is what my friend requested. Thanks for your response.

Ribs in Eastern NC

Any suggestions for a good place to get ribs that is not too far from I-40 or I-77 between Raleigh and the VA border. How is THe PIt in Raleigh or Backyard Bbq in Durham? Really looking more for a roadside takeout place than a sit down restaurant. And they must do ribs, not just the chopped bbq (I already have my supply of Lexington's #1) Thanks for any help.

Keaton's Barbecue

I would like to stop at Keaton's on our way from Cleveland, OH to Emerald Isle, NC if the timing works out. I'm thinking of trying to get there before they close at 2 p.m. (it's about a 7 hour drive) but won't be eating until we get to EI so it will be a good 4-6 hours before we get to it. Can anyone tell me if the chicken reheats well or does it get soggy? Thanks for any advice on the best way to reheat.

Cincinnati chili and food trucks

Thanks TJ Jackson. We do have an malaysian place in Cleveland that I've heard really good things about. But I've not been there. DH is not much into asian food, but I may venture out for lunch so thanks for the rec. I will definitely make it to Camp Washington this trip and definitely try goetta.

Cincinnati chili and food trucks

Hi everyone,

I've been to Gold Star and we have Skyline here in Cleveland, but I've yet to try Camp Washington. I'll be in Sharonville the weekend of July 19-21 and am wondering if CW is worth the drive. Or are there any new places that you recommend over CW? I'm also interested in the Cincinnati food truck scene. Any favorites? I'd also like to check out Findlay Market. Of course, a stop at Jungle Jim's before heading back north on Sunday is on the schedule. Any other food places of interest? Thanks for any suggestions.

Fresh Lake Perch on Road Trip across northern Ohio and Indiana

The Jolly Roger in Port Clinton, OH. I've only had the perch and the walleye, go for the perch! Sides are very tasty, but I just fill up on the perch.

Kimchi in Cleveland

I know of 4 korean restaurants in Cleveland - the previously mentioned Seoul Hot Pot at 3709 Payne, Korea House at 3700 Superior, Ha Ahn at 3030 Superior, and Miega at 1541 East 38th. I would think you can order kimchi from all of them. As rocknroller said, there are numerous asian markets in town where I'm sure you could find any ingredient you need to make it yourself. In addition to Tink Holl and Park to Shop, there is another large market in Asiatown in the building where Miega is located on East 38th. All three also offer ready to eat carry out items, though I don't know if kimchi is available at any of them. There is also another large market in Warrensville Heights called CAM. It's on Miles Road between Northfield and Warrensville Center. There are 3 smaller asian markets in North Olmsted on Lorain Road. Going west the first is between Clague and Columbia, the second is just before Columbia (in back of Dairy Queen and FatHeads), and the third is past Great Northern Mall just before Dover Center. All three are on the south side of Lorain. Welcome to Cleveland!

Cleveland - dog friendly restaurants/bistros/bars?

not in the downtown area (about a 20 minute drive from downtown), but The Wine Bar in Rocky River has a Sunday dog friendly brunch on their patio. Here's a link

pie shops/bakeries near Englewood CO

A few years ago I had a boston cream pie from a pie shop or bakery near Englewood where I was staying. It was not your usual boston cream pie. It was a regular bcp with custard between the cake layers and covered in ganache and put in a flaky pie crust. I cannot remember the name of the place. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Thanks for any help.

Dim Sum in Boulder or Niwot CO

My brother just moved to Niwot from Cherry Creek. I am looking to take him and my SIL somewhere where they serve regional food or something we don't normally cook ourselves (like dim sum). Is The Kitchen a good option for Saturday lunch? My husband's cousin is a chef at Bistro Vendome, so we may make it there for Sunday brunch if we do get into downtown Denver. Any and all suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Dim Sum in Boulder or Niwot CO

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm in Cleveland and we don't have much in the dim sum category so I'm always looking for something good when I travel. I know he has been to Colterra, but I will keep all the other (and future) suggestions in mind. Thanks again.

Chinese and Indian in Cleveland Ohio

As far as Indian for your spice tenderfoot, you might want to try a lunch buffet to give her a nice variety of what's available along with some spicier options for you. I've not been, though it's on my list of things I have to do very soon, but have heard very good things about India Garden in western Lakewood (18404 Detroit). Another place that I have been to, though it's been a while, is Kashmir Palace on Brookpark Extension near Great Northern.

Another suggestion for dim sum is C&Y. I was there earlier this year for a group dim sum and we had a wonderful feast for $16 per person which included tax and tip.

Northern Ohio - between Lorain and Sandusky

Are you traveling east or west on I-80? That makes a big difference in suggesting places that are closer to Cleveland/Lorain/Sandusky or closer to the Sandusky/Toledo area.

As Stuart mentioned, there are some great places in that area, but most are closer to I-90 or I-480, which really doesn't take you too much out of your way. But it would be helpful to know in which direction you're heading.
