Do you have any food "rituals"?

Very lucky it happened one time - they underestimated my stubborness.
After that it was you have to taste it - which is pretty normal I think

Do you have any food "rituals"?

I don't know - but I won't eat Stew or mixed veggies or a myriad of other things - I literally gag when I bring a spoon of stew to my mouth.
When I was little - a boy told me stew would make you sick - I guess it stuck with me........Parents trying to enforce food rules - I once missed 4 meals becuase I refused to eat the stew they put out each time. LOL hardheaded child -

Do you have any food "rituals"?

YES!!! Thanksgiving or Christmas - always have 2 or 3 plates so that things don't touch. Someone asked me at a work potluck if I was 5....LOL maybe

Do you have any food "rituals"?

I love this...I have several
~When I have any type of sandwich I have to have it cut along the diagonal - and spread apart, then potato chips are put on the plate in the middle so I can ensure enough for every bite
~Green Peas - can only be eaten if there is Kraft mac n Cheese
~I do not like food to touch until I am putting in my mouth - aforementioned peas and mac, have to be on opposite side of plate until that bite taken, mashed potatoes have a HUGE lake and dam made so that gravy doesn't touch anything else
~colored candies - sorted by color and any odd # out ones have to be eaten quickly in as few bites as possible - others 2 by 2 by color
~I do not like "crunchy' - underdone potatoes, so I won't eat steak fries - have to mash baked or boiled potatoes, and I will only eat mashed potato potato salad.

As you can see there are several - and that has not even scratched the surface

Dallas Market Center/World Trade Centre - Where to eat?

Go to 35 and Oaklawn on the west side and try OAK (next exit S from Market Center) - they have a pretty great menue, and I haven't found anything I didn't like. Also some funky cocktails that I enjoy.

Please reccommend a meat market for briskets!

If you contact Sam's and request the number brisket you need, they will accomadate you. I have done this before at the Lewisville Sam's and they were happy to help me - and I am pretty picky about my brisket also. I got 6 of them for Memorial day and smoked them and they were great - at least no complaints from the peanut gallery

Creative Tacos

Taco Stop at Turtle Creek and Riverfront has really tasty taco's - I love the ribeye, but I know the people around here have tried and like all of them
We literally walk across the street so someone is pretty much always eating one (or 3)

ONE Tex-Mex meal and ONE barbecue meal, Dallas/Ft. Worth

Actually you are who prompted me to ask for the Salsa Fresca at Gonazalez, I love them but even my mexican friends were not in the "know" about this - I felt like an insider.
and to second the Peurco Guisada, it has always been my favorite dish there.
And also the BBQ - Pecan Lodge was amazing - we went last week and I got the Pitmaster sanwich with Brisket, pulled pork and sausage, needed no sauce, and I loved it!! Though the sauce is tasty too - more of a vinegar based as opposed to sweet.
BE CAREFUL of Mo' Better bundt cakes right across the aisle, they have samples and they are wonderful (I ended up with 2)
Have a great trip

Biscoff Spread - moved from General board

It totally is - but I eat it on apple slices and pretend it's good for me. It's too rich for me to eat very much at one sittitng - that is the only thing that saves me

Recommendations for 1st Visit to Dallas/Ft. Worth in July

I have to say you MUST try Pecan Lodge for outstanding smoked BBQ, a co-worker took me today for lunch - I had the "pitmaster" because I wanted to try as much of the meat as I could and I needed not to be in a food coma for the afternoon. You do need to be there before 11 AM when they open or the line is outrageous - there is only one register so it doesn't move quickly - but it does give the kitchen time to keep up with the orders reasonably well.
My favorite was the "fatty" brisket - it was delicious while my co-worker liked the pulled pork better.
I would say you can't go wrong with anything there - though I was not too impressed by her mac & cheese.
Overall some of the best BBQ around!

Your favorite 'road trip' food

Starbucks iced coffee and Slim Jims and plain Lay's potato chips.......I never eat Slim Jims except on the road - and when we are leaving I have to have them - and only from a gas station otherwise they are not the full length ones - If traveling in Texas I get an Aqua Fresca - usually Horchata (but those aren't limited to road trips)

I would suggest Oak - they have a great patio - amazing food. They are at the Corner of I35 - and Oaklawn on the west side of the highway. I would advise reservations

Daytona Beach Rec's, PLEASE?

I will have to try that - I would lvoe to have great servers too, but can settle for excellent ambiance and food.
thanks for the thoughts / rec's
We have a car or two so it won't be too much of an issue to get places either
we just have to stay within walking distance of the hotel for the after dinner theatrics we usually get into

Looking for smoked Pork in Dallas area......

Kuby's has it sometimes and Henk's has smoked prok loin - we would rather have chops. It's for Hungarian Bean soup and the Hungarian insists it be authentic (Mom's recipe you know)

What is the one item you always leave Costco with?

Green Olives stuffed with Garlic and Jalapeno
Einstein bagels
milk
18 pack of eggs (they are SO fresh)
pork Tamales
Amys (?) natural white Queso
Proscuitto
and a big hunk of manchego

Always ALOT more - but these are everytime staples

Benihana type of place...that's not Benihana

Wild Ginger is is Lewisville - right off I-35 (east side) and Corporate
Also Jin-Beh - same side at Round Grove Rd exit - same shopping center as Garden RIdge

WIld Ginger is REALLY good, and they have a 2/$22 lunch special even on the weekends that enables me to order a little more of their sushi which is also very good!

Daytona Beach Rec's, PLEASE?

I apologize - I had back surgery and was not thinking of the trip
This will be the fourth year we have gone - we have eaten at The Ocean Deck, Hidden Treasure Bar & Grill (last 2 years we really enjoyed it) , and Rosellini's which was very good also.
Those are the places we enjoyed - there have been numerious others that were just not that memorable. I am not looking for transcendant, just a good meal
Thanks for the reply!

Pork Butt (No pulled pork, BBQ or smoked recipes)

I second the carnitas - we LOVE them
I made this recipe this weekend - I add a couple of Guajillo peppers and a little light beer to the crock pot, and I make the seasoning more of a paste by puting the spices in a mortero and adding a little lime juice and fresh cilantro. When shredded I crisp them under the broiler and reduce the sauce and people can add back as they like

Best cheap eats in Dallas???

we've eaten there a few times - LOVE the house salad. And the crepes are great!!
She just got her liquor license too, so might be a fun place for drinks!
I spoke to her today (and ate lunch there again) and "D" magazine was just there taking pics so hopefully it will get up and running

Daytona Beach Rec's, PLEASE?

We will be in Daytona Beach for a week in March/April. And I am looking for something REALLY good to eat - we have been for the last 4 years and have had some good food, but are really looking for some new stuff.
The only kibosh any one has ever put on choices is sushi - but on the other hand alot of us like it.
There will be about 7 or so of us - depending on the day/night.
Any suggestions welcomed and appreciated!
Thanks
Kat!
