Any foods you are selfish with ?

Stollen, because I only make it once a year. Everyone gets a loaf, but do not ask me once you have finished yours for a piece of mine because it ain't happening. Also cheese fries with the works, because this is generally a cheat meal for me so it happens once in a blue moon. I will eat the whole thing by myself and am not ok with sharing.

Best food-related gift you ever received or gave?

The best food gift that I have ever given and continue to give is christmas stollen. My family is from Germany and every year for Christmas I try to make a loaf for everyone. It brings me back to when I was a child and cooking with my grandmother. The best foodie gift that I have received thus far is a kitchenaid mixer from my aunt. It was like an epiphany occured when I first started using it. It made it so much easier for me to make all of the baked goods that I love to make.

Thanksgiving Throw Down - pie edition

I have gotten requests for the Cook's Illustrated Pecan Pie every year for the past several years. I usually end up making about ten pies for thanksgiving alone, some for my family and some for friends. I highly recommend it!

Are You Snacking On Anything Right Now? Part Deux!!

Tilapia with broccoli on the side and some kasha cereal to nibble on. No it does not sound that appetizing but I must say that it worked wonders on my energy slump!

So what do you do with all the leftover halloween candies?

I usually try to bake with them. I'll either make an everything but the cookie, or bar cookie and sometimes I might use them in cake decorations. I hate leaving them in the house because my family will devour them so any remaining leftovers I usually bring to work or give to friends.

Do You Eat Your Salad Before or After Your Main Entree?

I enjoy eating my salad before my meal. I think growing up and going to family dinners where the first course was not accompanied by the salad has something to do with this.

What Do You Eat for Dessert?

What I really want- bread pudding, with cream sauce; chocolate cake; cheesecake. What I usually have: greek yogurt mixed with almond milk, whey protein, cocoa powder and truvia, frozen for about thirty minutes with a homemade pumpkin protein bar crumbled on top.

How do you top your french fries?

Cheese, al different kinds, with some sort of meat, usually chili or steak. I also like them plain with ketchup, ranch dressing or ranch dip. With srircha, mustard or barbeque sauce.

Do people's food choices/ preferences impact how attractive you find them?

Yes. I like to eat junk food occasionally and don't mind indulging on a date. However, if I am going out with you and all you are ordering is greasy, salty junk, that is a huge turnoff to me. I like to be with someone that likes to indulge but also is aware of what they are putting in their body. I'm also a pretty adventurous eater so if I'm dining with someone that is not willing to go past meat and potatoes, that is pretty much the last time that they will hear from me.

Would you eat Gumbo or a Shrimp Beignet for Breakfast?

I would definitely eat the shrimp beignets, the gumbo I don't know if I could stomach that for breakfast. However, I enjoy having untraditional breakfast items in the morning and have been known to eat a big bowl of vegetable soup to get my day going.

What are you baking these days? August 2013 edition! [through August 31, 2013]

I made mini key lime pies this past weekend. I cooked them in a cupcake tin and they came out well. I also made Mexican wedding cookies, which could have come out better but I unfortunately, overcooked them. And I also made some very rich chocolate chip cookies because I used dark brown sugar instead of light. I was worried that they wouldn't turn out well but they were fantastic!!

Best low carb meatloaf recipes?

Google Jamie Eason's turkey meatloaf muffins. They are delish and low carb. Sometimes I use more mustard and some parsley in addition to her other ingredients but I don't think it is going to affect the macros that significantly.

Godiva Chocolate Liqueur---How would you use it?

I'd use it to make a sauce for bread pudding with heavy cream. Or you could use it in tiramisu, and dip the ladyfingers in it instead of Kahlua. As an addition to mousse which you can use to make cupcakes with. As a simple syrup for cakes. To flambé bananas. In the glaze for a "rum" cake, in place of the rum. Obviously, I'm a baker and for some reason, the liquer is screaming bake with me, lol.

TV in restaurants?

I think that restaurants should not have TV's in the main dining area, but that it is ok to have it in the bar area or if you are a sports restaurant obviously, part of that association is going to be having TV's in the restaurant. It is disrupting though, especially if there is a big event on. I remember one time when the local college football was playing in a championship game, all of the male patrons would frequently get up to check on the score in the bar. It was ridiculous!

Foods that make you sick?

Pork, excluding bacon. For some reason it makes me feel ill, also, lamb. Sometimes beef stroganoff and occasionally cottage cheese depending on the curd size.

How do you like Bacon, Thick or Thin Sliced?

Thick cut, plain, crisp on the outside tender on the inside, is the way I like my bacon.

Guilty pleasure

Chili cheese fries and chocolate daiquiri's with rumplemintz. I live in the south, and if you don't, you haven't lived until you've had a drive thru daiquiri other than strawberry;)

Peanut Butter -- how do you eat it (and on what kinds of different foods)?

spoonful, with ice cream, with greek yogurt, on top of celery, along with cereal, with my oatmeal, on top of my protein bread, in my shake, with crackers, with bananas, with apple slices and honey, as a dipping sauce for my chicken, in banana bread... basically with everything!!

Nacho cheese SAUCE or melted cheese? (inspired by Nacho Toppings thread)

I have only eaten velveeta cheese once in my life and my Mom was right, it's not even close to melted cheese. And I do not mean bagged shredded cheese either, because it does not melt the same as block cheese that has been shredded. I love chili cheese fries and if I am going to indulge, I usually have them for a cheat meal. I therefore, consider myself somewhat of a melty cheese snob. I definitely recommend variety, go for mozzarella and some brie and maybe some feta and some cheddar. Not a lot of the more pungent like feta and brie, but just enough to carry the notes of each.

Whatdya Put Hot Sauce On?

I love hot sauce! I put it on my eggs for breakfast, my salad for lunch and then whatever I am having for dinner. I like Sriracha, tabasco doesn't pack enough punch for me anymore neither does Franks. I've tried pureeing chili's in adobo sauce to get an extra kick recently and have been very happy with the results!

Ice Cream, What Flavors are Your Favorite and Worst?

Favorites would be: Chocolate chip cookie dough, phish food by ben and jerry's, rum raisin, cinnamon, and blue bell dutch chocolate. I'm not a big fan of vanilla unless it is the very rich kind!

Breakfast - The Most Important Meal of the Day

I love breakfast!! I will wake up an additional 30 minutes early to ensure that I have a hot breakfast most mornings. I used to eat oatmeal with about two egg whites, but I switched to 3 egg whites and a whole egg, omelette style with spinach and whatever herbs I have on hand. I also have about half a cup of fruit and a little bit of peanut butter to get my motor running in the AM.

Foods You Like Primarily Because of the Texture

Oatmeal, the heartiness of it for some reason is comforting to me, and it's weird because I grew up as a cereal loving girl. Also chips, because of the crunch factor. It's very satisfying to bite into a chip or other crunchy food item.

My dad always sticks his hand down the drain, I however, get shivers at the mere thought of sticking my hand down the drain.

What are you baking these days? August 2013 edition! [through August 31, 2013]

I recently made mini turtle cheesecakes. They were fabulous! I used the taste of home recipe and halved it. I also made a peach pie last night but have yet to taste it. I am also thinking about making some protein bars from Jamie eason, but that is only if time permits.

Have you ever had to hide any foods or drinks from others ?

She sounds exactly like me! My dad and brother are food demolishers, and will not stop eating anything until it's completely gone. If I make a batch of cookies I have to save some for myself and mom or else, they will all be gone and we will have not seen a crumb.
