Unique lunch spots off of a cruise ship-- Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Croatia

Thanks for the reply Indy67, I appreciate it. Interestingly enough, I love tuna fish w/ mayo and will sometimes eat crab cakes (if they're not too "fishy"), but other than that have tried lots of other things, and am really just not a "fish person." Neither is my husband (he won't really touch anything, and he's tried as well). I appreciate your concern, but I've traveled the world over (Russia, Peru, Iceland, Kenya, etc.) and never had a problem finding stuff to eat, so I'm not too worried about the seafood issue. I'm sure that there will be lots of other things to try! Perhaps we'll check out the Marco Polo restaurant. Thanks!

Unique lunch spots off of a cruise ship-- Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Croatia

Hi All, my husband and I will be taking a cruise to Europe in a couple of weeks. Some cities we will take the excursions planned, and others we will do on our own. If anybody has favorites in Venice, Athens, Kusadesi, Split, and Dobrovnik, please share. We're not seafood people! Other than that just looking for unique spots, great food, romantic, w/ nice views! Thanks!

Birthday Dinner in Boston

Hi, looking for a special place for a birthday dinner in the city (most of us are in our 30's). There will be 16 of us. I'm thinking roughly $40-$50 per person? Would like someplace with a fun atmosphere for the occassion. Looking for American, Italian, Greek, or Mexican. We were actually hoping to try Blue Dragon, but they only take 1 big party a night, and somebody already booked it...

Mother-Daughter NYC Trip Eats

We have decided to try it for brunch, I will let people know the feedback... We're also going to try Bar Boulud, Bar Americain, and now we're deciding b/w Extra-Virgin (which doesn't take dinner reservations!), Perla, Locanda Verde, and Balthazar... A mix of stuff, I know. We'll see!

Oh, that's disappointing. The menu looks so good... Was it the food, service, both, that weren't good?

I have to say, Yerba Buena Perry looks great, I'm trying to figure out how we can fit that in, even for brunch!

Wow, that website is awesome, thank you! Good to know about the long lines at Burger Joint, that may not be so great then. Will check out your other suggestions, great!

Wow, thank you so much! I really appreciate all of these recommendations... We've eaten @ DB a few times and Esca looks like mainly seafood, but there are tons of others on here that are good contenders, will look into them-- thanks for taking the time to recommend!

Mother-Daughter NYC Trip Eats

Hi All, I used to live in NYC but years ago, so I'm not quite up on what's the best anymore. My Mom and I will be enjoying a mother-daughter long weekend in the city in a couple of weeks, and I'm not quite sure where to begin. I know that there is so much info here on Chow Hound...

I hear that Anthony Bourdain loves the Burger Joint, is that one of the best for burgers/casual lunch one day? We'll be there for 2 dinners, and at least 1 should be in/near the theater district. Nothing completely astronomical, but something to the equivalant of DB Bistro Moderne price-wise is great. (We used to love Eleven Madison Park). We love Mexican, Italian, Greek, French Bistro, American (My Mom loves seafood and I don't). Is Locanda Verde a good find? How about Toloache for Mexican? Craft Bar vs. Craft?

Also a food truck for lunch or snack is great (midtown, east or west, or the Village) and a great place for brunch, too-- someplace a little creative is always welcome. Price is pretty open. I was thinking maybe Bar Boulud?

We'll most likely be staying in midtown but will probably be traveling down to SoHo/the Village. Other than the theater one night, the other night we could travel anywhere for dinner (in Manhattan).

I hope this isn't too vague, but if you could suggest your favorites that would be great. Thank you!

Best onion rings in the suburbs?

Hi All, I've been sick for a few months and now feeling better and absolutely craving onion rings! Wondering where the best are in the suburbs, near Medfield but we can travel in the surrounding area... Just don't feel like schlepping into Boston for them! Thanks!

Best yet simple food for a nice romantic Sunday night dinner

Thanks sgordon. I don't drink a lot and my husband prefers beer over wine! What do you think about L'Artusi? Ever been?

The best Food Trucks in NYC

I'm actually really eager to try Smorgasburg, it looks so yummy and fun, but we're getting in on Sunday before the theater so I don't think that we'll have time! Bummer but maybe next time!

I appreciate sappidus reply, and you are correct, we are looking for something refreshing and fun! Coolhaus looks wonderful and if it's warm and sunny out it may be fun to stop for an ice-cream sandwich (here's to the sun coming out!).

Best yet simple food for a nice romantic Sunday night dinner

Hi-- OK, so I know posted recently about stopping for lunch or a snack at a good food truck in NYC and that didn't seem to go over so well w/ most of you. :) So here's anothe question-- We'd like a really nice meal on Sunday night, we're OK w/ spending up to $200. We DO NOT like fish or thai/Japenese, but love American, Italian, Mexican, and Greek. I have tried the burger at DB Moderne and it's good, but want to try something new. We're looking for a "gem" if you will, and here's the thing: While we're willing to pay $200 for a good meal w/ wine, etc. we're not "fancy people." Any suggestions? We're staying near Columbus Circle but of course it's easy to hop a cab anywhere...

The best Food Trucks in NYC

Hi All,
My husband and I will be in NYC this Sun-Tues. Though I used to live in Manhattan for years, it was kind of before food trucks became all the rage. We're looking for anything American, Mexican, Greek, or Italian (and sweets) in food trucks; please let me know of anything that you think is amazing! We're staying near Columbus Circle if that helps, though don't be afraid to give me any ones that you think are fantastic b/c we'll probably be traveling all around the city! Thanks so much!

Boston bound!!!

If you really wanted to splurge, head to the Waquassett Resort and Golf Club in Chatham for a lovely (ahem, expensive) dinner. I got married there a couple of years ago and the food is fantastic!! Also something more low-ley but equally lovely, grab lunch on the deck outdoors at the Beach House Grill at Chatham Bars Inn-- pretty view and yummy, casual food. Have a wonderful vacation!

Really? A lot of other Chow Hounds have said good things about Fandango. Well OK, and we do love a good cocktail while watching the sun set!

Vacation in Monterey

Well the beach bonfire is something that I read about that "Romantic Room Designs" does and it's supposed to be very romantic; I'm sure if we bundle up we'll be fine. After the winter that we just had here in Boston 60's 0r 70's and even in the 50's at night is OK! I like the idea of a picnic as well and have heard great things about Point Lobos...

Thank you, I will check out Seaside and the Marina and see what's what. Fish Tales think you also but remember that we don't eat fish! But I will check out Mundaka and the tavern if they have other things. I've heard about that artichoke bread too!

Suggestions for a low-key vacation in Monterey, where to eat?

Hi, so as I mentioned before my husband and I are going to be out in Monterey (first time) next month. We don't want to spend a ton of money on food while we're out there just b/c the airfare and hotel are already eating up a big part of our budget (pun intended). We're totally content to just walk around and find a good pizza joint but I thought it may also be nice to have some recommendations as well (we will be taking day trips to Carmel and Pacific Grove, etc). We have gotten suggestions for Il Vechio and La Balena for a nice dinner one night which is perfect. The rest can be somewhat casual (in other words we're not going to head to Marinus). So far I have Fandango for lunch or dinner, Lokal for dinner, and La Bicyclette for breakfast. Any other good brunch spots or any other casual but fun places that you think we just have to try while we're out there? Unfortunatly we don't eat seafood but we do love American, Italian, Mexican, Greek, etc. Thanks!

Vacation in Monterey

Both Il Vecchio and La Balena look great. I am just realizing that Morro Bay is a rather long trip from Monterey which is too bad b/c it seemed nice w/ lots of good wildlife. Pacific Grove also looks beautiful so I'm sure we'll make it there at some point...
