Delivery in Austin to help out a friend

Hi All,
My best friend lives in Austin (I live outside of Boston), and she has to go out of the country for a week, somewhat unexpectedly. Her husband works a lot, but her parent's will be watching her 3 kids-- 5 years and younger. I just wanted to do something for her, even from a distance, and thought that maybe sending at least 1 meal could help her Mom not to have to think about dinner just for one night. But I'm not familiar with the area. Can anybody please recommend a good place to have food delivered to the West Lake area? I think that the kids like typical "kid food," mac 'n cheese, chicken, quesadillas, they eat some veggies, etc. Her parent's are vegeterian, though. Any thoughts on a place that can accomodate, that isn't too expensive? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Weekend Away at the Samoset Resort

Thanks so much for all of these recs. I have passed them along to my Mom too, for her to take a look at. Shepard's Pie looks like such an interesting menu, as does Francine Bistro, and Home Kitchen Cafe looks like cozy and yummy food. Thanks! Also crawfish, we will be sure to take that walk that you mentioned! Hoping for a really great fall, not too cold, weekend!

Weekend Away at the Samoset Resort

Hi All, my Mom and I are getting ready to take our annual mother-daughter trip in just a couple of weeks. This year we've decided to hit up the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine. We've heard that the hotel may not be the best place to eat at, so we're looking for some good local spots for lunches and dinners. So far we've got Primo in Rockland, Maine, but not much else. Any suggestions? I know that Maine is known for seafood, but I'm not a big lover. My Mom is-- so if it's on the menu that's fine, just not the kind of restaurant where it's all seafood, and only perhaps 1 chicken dish, that kind of thing. We don't have too strict of a budget. Just looking for gems! Thanks so much for any recs.

Beer of the Month Clubs delivered to Massachusetts

Thanks a lot for all of the suggestions. I decided to support a local store and go with the Craft Beer Cellar in Belmont. They have an interesting selection called the "small international flare" where he'll get to try beer from some of the world's newest breweries, which I thought was pretty cool! I got him a 3 month membership. :)

Beer of the Month Clubs delivered to Massachusetts

Nice recommendation Pia, thank you. I was thinking that it would be nice to actually be able to give him something on our actual anniversary. I may do a bit of exploring this weekend to see if I can pick him up something as he awaits a delivery. I will also look into Redstone and Julio's, thanks for the suggestions.

Beer of the Month Clubs delivered to Massachusetts

I had heard that wine shipments would be allowed as of the 1st if the year, but didn't realize that wouldn't cover beer. I like the idea of finding a liquor store that specializes in craft beer, thanks.

Beer of the Month Clubs delivered to Massachusetts

Hi All, I was thinking about getting my husband a "beer of the month club" for our wedding anniversary coming up in a couple of weeks, but I'm just unsure which company is the best to purchase this from. I know so little about beer, but the last few that I've seen him drink were Blue Moon and Summer Shandy, and also an Angry Orchard Cider. I've "Googled" beer of the month clubs, but just don't know the quality of any of them. I know it may be hard to point me in the right direction with my lack of knowledge around beer, but if you know of any clubs, perhaps that would send both domestic and international beers so that he could try new things, please let me know. Thanks.

Unique lunch spots off of a cruise ship-- Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Croatia

Thanks for the reply Indy67, I appreciate it. Interestingly enough, I love tuna fish w/ mayo and will sometimes eat crab cakes (if they're not too "fishy"), but other than that have tried lots of other things, and am really just not a "fish person." Neither is my husband (he won't really touch anything, and he's tried as well). I appreciate your concern, but I've traveled the world over (Russia, Peru, Iceland, Kenya, etc.) and never had a problem finding stuff to eat, so I'm not too worried about the seafood issue. I'm sure that there will be lots of other things to try! Perhaps we'll check out the Marco Polo restaurant. Thanks!

Unique lunch spots off of a cruise ship-- Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Croatia

Hi All, my husband and I will be taking a cruise to Europe in a couple of weeks. Some cities we will take the excursions planned, and others we will do on our own. If anybody has favorites in Venice, Athens, Kusadesi, Split, and Dobrovnik, please share. We're not seafood people! Other than that just looking for unique spots, great food, romantic, w/ nice views! Thanks!

Birthday Dinner in Boston

Hi, looking for a special place for a birthday dinner in the city (most of us are in our 30's). There will be 16 of us. I'm thinking roughly $40-$50 per person? Would like someplace with a fun atmosphere for the occassion. Looking for American, Italian, Greek, or Mexican. We were actually hoping to try Blue Dragon, but they only take 1 big party a night, and somebody already booked it...

Mother-Daughter NYC Trip Eats

We have decided to try it for brunch, I will let people know the feedback... We're also going to try Bar Boulud, Bar Americain, and now we're deciding b/w Extra-Virgin (which doesn't take dinner reservations!), Perla, Locanda Verde, and Balthazar... A mix of stuff, I know. We'll see!

Wow, thank you so much! I really appreciate all of these recommendations... We've eaten @ DB a few times and Esca looks like mainly seafood, but there are tons of others on here that are good contenders, will look into them-- thanks for taking the time to recommend!

Mother-Daughter NYC Trip Eats

Hi All, I used to live in NYC but years ago, so I'm not quite up on what's the best anymore. My Mom and I will be enjoying a mother-daughter long weekend in the city in a couple of weeks, and I'm not quite sure where to begin. I know that there is so much info here on Chow Hound...

I hear that Anthony Bourdain loves the Burger Joint, is that one of the best for burgers/casual lunch one day? We'll be there for 2 dinners, and at least 1 should be in/near the theater district. Nothing completely astronomical, but something to the equivalant of DB Bistro Moderne price-wise is great. (We used to love Eleven Madison Park). We love Mexican, Italian, Greek, French Bistro, American (My Mom loves seafood and I don't). Is Locanda Verde a good find? How about Toloache for Mexican? Craft Bar vs. Craft?

Also a food truck for lunch or snack is great (midtown, east or west, or the Village) and a great place for brunch, too-- someplace a little creative is always welcome. Price is pretty open. I was thinking maybe Bar Boulud?

We'll most likely be staying in midtown but will probably be traveling down to SoHo/the Village. Other than the theater one night, the other night we could travel anywhere for dinner (in Manhattan).

I hope this isn't too vague, but if you could suggest your favorites that would be great. Thank you!

Best onion rings in the suburbs?

Hi All, I've been sick for a few months and now feeling better and absolutely craving onion rings! Wondering where the best are in the suburbs, near Medfield but we can travel in the surrounding area... Just don't feel like schlepping into Boston for them! Thanks!

Best yet simple food for a nice romantic Sunday night dinner

Thanks sgordon. I don't drink a lot and my husband prefers beer over wine! What do you think about L'Artusi? Ever been?

I'm actually really eager to try Smorgasburg, it looks so yummy and fun, but we're getting in on Sunday before the theater so I don't think that we'll have time! Bummer but maybe next time!

I appreciate sappidus reply, and you are correct, we are looking for something refreshing and fun! Coolhaus looks wonderful and if it's warm and sunny out it may be fun to stop for an ice-cream sandwich (here's to the sun coming out!).

Best yet simple food for a nice romantic Sunday night dinner

Hi-- OK, so I know posted recently about stopping for lunch or a snack at a good food truck in NYC and that didn't seem to go over so well w/ most of you. :) So here's anothe question-- We'd like a really nice meal on Sunday night, we're OK w/ spending up to $200. We DO NOT like fish or thai/Japenese, but love American, Italian, Mexican, and Greek. I have tried the burger at DB Moderne and it's good, but want to try something new. We're looking for a "gem" if you will, and here's the thing: While we're willing to pay $200 for a good meal w/ wine, etc. we're not "fancy people." Any suggestions? We're staying near Columbus Circle but of course it's easy to hop a cab anywhere...
