Another NY'er coming to New Orleans

FYI, Restaurant August now serves lunch Monday thru Friday now. Do not miss this restaurant. We went there for lunch twice in January - wonderful and we go there for dinner every time we go to NO which is 4 times a year. Get the crabmeat gnocchi. It is an appetizer; but they will make it as an entree for you. One of the best things I have ever eaten.

Coolinary Menu Report

For "Little pillows of Heaven," try Restaurant August's house-made gnocchi with crab meat and truffle oil with shaved parmesean. When we were there this past August, I ordered this in entree size. Best thing I have ever eaten.

New Orleans Trip Report! Big Mistake…………….

We were at Restaurant August last Friday (out last night in NO) and I took had Chef Besh's take on the fresh mozzarella and tomato salad (caprese). It was beyond delicious. We ordered it off of the tasting menu. The mozzarella actually looked like a poofed up ravoli. The tomato which was roasted was actually inside of the cheese. The cheese had some pesto and basil leaves on top and the dish came with petite peas. This was the best caprese salad I have ever eaten. I wasn't expecting the roasted tomato to come squshing out. If it is on the menu, do try it! Also, we don't like the egg saboyan they bring out. So instead they brought out a fig stuffed with goat cheese on top of micro greens with a pepper jelly vingarette. Divine. I could have eaten a dozen more of those!!!

A new Orleans Jazz Brunch - something other than Arnaud's!

Halfshell - they actually let people in with shorts and teeshirts? I am surprised that they allowed it. I was told by different couples that they would not let their hubbies in w/o collared shirts and sent them to a store to get the shirts; however Commanders did buy them each a drink and desserts for their troubles.

Best Brunch / Jazz Brunch in NOLA?? Need Help

We go to Commander's Jazz Brunch every time we come to NO (4 times a year). We will be at Commander's next Sunday for their brunch. Reservations a must. You can set up reservations right on their website. Enjoy!

Most overrated NOLA restaurants

JazzyB - you crack me up - LOL!

The Best Thing You Ever Ate: New Orleans

The crab meat gnocchi appetizer at Restaurant August. Heaven in your mouth. They will make it an entree if you want.

Help build our dream restaurant weekend in New Orleans. Please.

We never do breakfast while in NOLA. Too many choices for lunch and/or dinner. We save our appetites for them : ). We have an early lunch at 11:30 and then dinner around 8PM.

You can do breakfast any time anywhere!

Commander's Lunch or Jazz Brunch

Brunch at Commander's is wonderful. We go every time we come to NOLA - 3 to 4 times a year. Last trip in May, we missed out on brunch and did go for lunch and it was lovely. We were disappointed the one time we had dinner there however.

NOLA Trip (brief)

Kib, we were told by management at the Hilton location, that they can't flamebroil the same way the Metry location does due to some kind of restrictions because they are in a hotel. The ones we have gotten at the Hilton were defnitely not "charbroiled" the way it is done in Metry. No black anywhere on the oyster; spices and butter were the same but not charbroiled at all. We prefer the ones that are blackened more. YUM!

NOLA Trip (brief)

Don't get the charbroileds at Drago's at the Hilton. Go to Metairie for them. The Hilton cannot charbroil them properly as they are located in the hotel. We tried them a couple of times and there is no comparison. We did not like the ones at Acme very much either and Felix's (across the street) were the worst. We stop off at Drago's straight from the airport when we come down which is four times a year. Enjoy!

P.S. We never order anything else besides their gumbo and shrimp or crab corn bisque. We find the rest of their food lacking as there are so many other great places to eat.

Grand Isle,Luke. Opinions?

Stay away from GI. The food is bad. We go to Luke for lunch almost every time we come down which is 4 times a year. Very good! Burger is beyond good! If you like mussels, get those, yummy and make sure you get that onion tart appetizer, delicious!

Commander's Palace 25% off! Antoine's 60% off! Deanie's 35% off and more!

They emailed me back - no restrictions like restaurant.com and at Commander's, you can use more than one at a time. I purchased some earlier and they are being sent by certified mail. Good deal!

Commander's Palace 25% off! Antoine's 60% off! Deanie's 35% off and more!

I saw the above on tripsmarter.com to get discounts on various restaurants in New Orleans. I guess these are similar to those on restaurant.com. I posted a question to them if they work the same as restaurant.com re no alcohol, etc.

Muriel's report

We took my Mom there for Mother's Day dinner and everything was very good. We had stopped going there for awhile but since Chef Gus Martin came on board, we figured we give it another shot and it was fine. We will go back.

Mother's Day

So far as far as I know: Muriel's, Cafe Giovanni ($45 per person) and Ristorante Carmello ($39 per person) have special Mother's Day menus. There is bound to be many others.

Herbsaint

Make sure you get the small plate of fresh pasta with fried poached egg (I get it every time we go). However there is a bit of pasta on the plate. I usually just get another small plate (mussels - very good) and never miss the brown butter tarte for dessert. This is usually plenty for me and I do like to eat, but if you can't each much, I would forego the entree . . .

Tommy's vs. Irene's, Update?

Irene's hands down over Tommy's. Make an early reservation for like 6PM and you will not have a wait. Enjoy!

Muriel's/Chef Gus Martin

Has anyone been to Muriel's since Chef Gus Martin has taken over? I read a couple of positive reviews on other boards since he has taken over. We have been there in the past and thought it to be okay but have not returned for the past few years. We have enjoyed his food while he was at Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse and Ralph's on the Park.

Thanks!

Clancy's worth the trip?

Clancy's is good but expensive, a bit high considering the location.

How did you like August?

Report: First two dinners

It is $45 per person for his new brunch menu.

Quick trip to NOLA report

Go to Herbsaint. Wonderful. Get the homemade spaghetti with fried poach egg (small plate) and try their mussels with pomme frittes (another small plate). We go to Herbsaint on every visit which is 4 to 5 times a year. Commander's is also a must!

visiting in April need help with restos

Go to Irene's over Tommy's. Irene now takes reservations. We tend to go like 6PM so as not to miss her specials. I am a NYer (left 20 years ago; family had a pizzeria/restaurant in Queens) and Irene's Italian is as good as you can get up in NY. Get her chicken rosemarino and creole cheesecake!!!

Been to Clancy's, very good, but expensive.

Go to Luke's - we go often.

If you will be there on Sunday, go to Commander's Brunch - Excellent!!!

Go to Bacco for lunch - we go almost every time we come to NO which is 4 times a year - always good, consistent and reasonable - http://www.bacco.com/menu_detail.php?menu=1

Commander's Palace Brunch

Definitely worth it. We go every time we come to New Orleans - 4 times a year and the price isn't too expensive as it includes everything except your bar bill and tip. Go and enjoy!!!

Found Where to Eat- now WHAT TO EAT- recs?

At Restaurant August, you must have the gnocchi appetizer - divine. Bit expensive for the amount you get, but worth every penny!!!

Irene's - get chicken rosemarino. I never order chicken out but get it every time we go. If you like veal ossco buco, this is great too. This is one of her Thursday night specials. Also, do not miss her Creole cheesecake. Make reservations at Irene's so you won't have to wait too long in the holding room. We tend to go here early around 6PM so we don't miss out on the specials which has happened.

We go to August and Irene's every time we go to New Orleans which is 4 times a year.

Enjoy!

We will be back on 1/18 for a week. I am counting the days . . .

3 Nights In NO...........

We were at Luke's in August and it was wonderful from the food to the service. We sat next to the kitchen and were able to watch everyone cooking. Get the onion tart appetizer - wonderful. We will definitely go back.

mussels

Herbsaint has them and they are very good, served with pomme frittes.

Ruth Chris's Steakhouse

I know I may get blasted for asking this, but has anyone been to Ruth's since it opened in Riche's old spot. Opinions? Thanks.
