Fish and Shrimp in Broward Count

Thanks for the suggestions - we eat at Calypso quite often, and enjoy their jerked chicken wings!
Unfortunately we are looking for a Sunday night option - sorry I didn't mention that in the original post.

Fish and Shrimp in Broward Count

In-laws are visiting from up north and they want "a 'nice' piece of mahi and shrimp." In the past, we have taken them to 17th Street Fisheries, Quarter Deck, Catfish Dewey's, and Southport.
Any new suggestions? You can see that we are tending towards the casual end of the spectrum.
We were considering Seafood World or Whale's Rib up in Pompano...
Thanks for your suggestions!

fort lauderdale happy hours

Oh and if you are just having drinks without food - I recommend the Mai Kai - nothing says fun like tiki bar. And Pelican Grand Beach Resort has one of the nicest places to sit and enjoy a bourbon in Ft. Lauderdale.

fort lauderdale happy hours

I strongly recommend Market 17. If you sit at the bar, the drinks and apps are all half-priced during happy hour.

fun place foe the grand kids dinner FLL

How about a water taxi ride to 17th Street Fisheries for dinner and tarpon feeding?

Aldi Delray Beach

I agree with both sides of this discussion. Aldi's is a no-frills sort of place with plenty of terrible prepared food. And Aldi's has stunningly good prices on so many basic ingredients (this week I got great deals on watermelon, soymilk, gorgonzola, canned tuna, sourdough pretzels, and pinto beans to name a few) that it is worth a trip.
IMHO Walmart food is too expensive and I am happy to bring my own bags and use a quarter to get a cart to avoid the extra expenses.
I make a weekly shopping trip stopping first at Stiles Farmers market then on to Aldi’s (both in Lauderdale Lakes). I can buy about 90% of my weekly grocery needs for less than $70 - and that is to feed two adults three meals a day seven days of the week.
Aldi’s will not be a good match if you need specific brands or organic veggies, but it has really helped my family on our limited income.

Rabarbaro Zucca Amaro

Anyone know if there is a retailer in southeast FL that carries Rabarbaro Zucca Amaro?

Ft. Lauderdale Happy Hour

Can anyone suggest a lovely place for my husband and I to stop for a happy hour drink before our wedding anniversary?
We live in Ft. L and will be having dinner in Oakland Park - so that region would be the best.
Thanks!

Easter Brunch in Stuart to Jensen Beach area

Does anyone know of a good place for Easter brunch in the Stuart to Jensen Beach area?

Price is not as much as issue as tastiness.

Thanks

Meg

HH Friday

Market 17th - 1/2 price apps AND drinks.
Can't be beat!

Young ...energized breakfast places?

It is a wonderful sentiment.
Unfortunately family and I have made an effort to be local tourists and there is a disconnect between "local tourist" and "community" in parts of south FL.
It has been discussed in several threads across this board - why no trader joes? who no good farmers markets? where can I find locally grown produce and meats?
I think this is perhaps a bigger issue, but I hope I am wrong.

Trader Joe's?!?

I have been reading this board for several years, but almost never post... but this topic is particularily interesting to me.
I don't know why there is such a lack of choice is SFl, but I certainly noticed that it exists. Is there some connection between the lack of a large urban farmers market (not farmstand market or resale market, but one with people who grow the unprocessed food that they sell) and the lack of Trader Joes?
It feels pretty crazy that St. Louis, MO and Columbus, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan all have large urban markets and TJ but we don't.

Lychee sightings - 2010

I suggest coming to the Redland Summer Fruit Festival - the vendors usually have some great stuff

Trader Joe's?!?

The basic difference in my mind is that Trader Joes is first about value AND variety. All of those other options are about variety without a mind towards cost.

Saturday Lunch in Design District

I'm looking for nice (and new to me) Saturday lunch in Miami's Design District. We have eaten at Michael's and Sra. Martinez - where else should we try... that serves lunch on Saturday.
Thanks so much

Best cold app

Thanks guys (and gals) -
lschow is right... the bugs can be an issue for outdoor dining, but a good ocean breeze blows those pups away long enough for sunset!
Your ideas sound yummy - I will be sure and enjoy the good weather for those who are moving inside for the winter.

Best cold app

This is super specific, but if the chowhounds can't help, I don't know who can...
I live in south FL and it is just now getting to outdoor dining weather (this weekend is supposed to be the first time it has NOT gotten to 90 since early May).

I want to add several cold appetizers to my home cooking menu, so I can whip them up and take them out to parks for sunset picnics with my hubby.

We are on a budget so caviar is less likely than hummus, but I would love to hear what you all suggest.

Thanks for the help!

Try Escargot 41, Naples

My hubby and I are coming over to Naples for Easter - Escargot 41 is closed on Sunday - is there someplace comparable which you all can recommend?

Looking for dinner Boca suggestions

I am giving an evening lecture in downtown Boca (Palmetto Park and AIA region) this week, and I am looking for reasonably priced dinner suggestions.
Thanks!

Pen & Dutch-Friut/Veg-Hollywood

I love Penn Dutch - but I am willing to dig through the veggies to find what I want and the meats are excellent. I end up saving about 50% on my grocery bill by going to Penn Dutch for meats and veggies vs. Winn Dixie.

Just moved at Canalpoint florida

Um - I am thinking that you are going to have to drive to at least West Palm Beach to find much that is chow worthy. Canal Point is pretty but not very culinary.

Great Cuban in Ft. Lauderdale

I live on Las Olas, but I have a buddy flying in for the 50th birthday and they want cuban...so I am willing to drive for great good.

Great Cuban in Ft. Lauderdale

Can anyone suggest a place to get great cuban food in Ft. Lauderdale?

I want to fall in love with NOLA again

Thanks to you all on the wonderful thoughts.
I have to say that one of things I loved most about New Orleans was the passion that people had for food.
The first thing my husband said when I told him I had an interview in NOLA was... "well what are we gonna have for dinner"

Whole Smoked Turkey in South Florida

I have bought them at Penn Dutch in Hollywood

I want to fall in love with NOLA again

Thanks for all the suggestions -
My all time favorite in NOLA was Restaurant August, but I enjoyed Bayona, Herbsaint, and a thousand and one different po-boy places across the city.

I want to fall in love with NOLA again

I'm coming up to NOLA for a job interview, and I want to find someplace to eat that will make me fall in love with NOLA again. I lived there for several years in the late 1990s, and ate everywhere I could!
What can you all recommend at as a place "not to miss?"
Thanks
