Best fried chicken in LA? where is it? Jim Dandy's Lives! I was wrong! I am so sorry about putting out bad info and apologize for causing you (and anyone else) great anguish. Yes, Jim Dandy is still there on the corner of Vermont / Imperial, and the one on Manchester/Western, too. I actually drove by each of them yesterday to confirm their existence rather than relying on my memory of a similar looking corner to that of Vermont. Enjoy the food! |

The Obama caravan at Roscoe's for a little snack... I'm a burrito kinda-person, so I can't speak to about 80% of their menu. Since I'm 'watching' my weight lately, my favorite is the Onion egg burrito. Add the cheese for more flavor. I like their chicken w/rice, all-beef, all-pork, go green if you're into spicy, & w/potatoes if you want more 'filling', carnitas, and machaca (not so much as the others). There's a hundred other items/combos that I can't speak to...Vlashba |

Best fried chicken in LA? where is it? First, I'm sorry to say the last of the Jim Dandy's is gone! (Vermont & Imperial, South LA) You were such a good friend. I love my fried chicken as much as anyone else, and admittedly I am more partial to the Broasted-style (a childhood thing). Good: Chicky Fried Chicken Broasted, in NoLB Better & Best: Ocean Park Pizza, 2819 1/2 Ocean Park Blvd, Santa Monica (You CAN eat here, but it's really a take-out place) Next test: Grandma's Chicken, on Alondra in Bellflower Chowhounds: The search for the best is half the flavor of the meal, enjoy! ----- Ocean Park Pizza |

The Obama caravan at Roscoe's for a little snack... While I have never eaten at Roscoe's on Pico, I've driven by it a zillion times on my way to Lucy's Mexican-American Drive-thru, just a block down Pico on the corner of La Brea. Last night I was on my usual trip to Lucy's when the radio traffic report mentions that the President had stopped at Roscoe's, on his way to a benefit dinner no less. I thought 'how odd' for the President to go to Roscoe's since it's kind of a 'divish' looking area institution, maybe he heard good things about them? Later, on the ch 2 TV news they mentioned the President's stop, and that four other Presidents had stopped there also, Nixon, Carter, Clinton, & Bush(?). So, maybe its now the 'thing' to do for a President on the campaign trail, and enjoy the food! BTW, Lucy's has the best onion rings around, and my personal favorite is their egg & onion burrito. |
