I need a shabbat-mode fridge

Anyone know offhand what is problematic (if anything) about the GE Cafe Fridge's sabbath mode? I'm trying to understand why star-K doesn't certify it, and if it's a quick manual fix, or something that can't be remediated. In any case, other fridge recs that have a viable sabbath mode (preferably easy to use mode)?

ISO iced cookies

Anyone know of a place that ships cute kosher iced cookies? My law firm used to send baskets (not kosher) with cookie arrangements - so for example, if you had a baby, there might be a cookie of a baby, one of a pacifier, etc. I have been wondering if there's anyplace to order some cute cookies for my daughter's birthday party, but the bakery pickings in the DC metro area are slim, so they'd have to be shipped.

ISO Pesadich Caterer/ Takeout in NY Area

I'm looking for a Takeout/ or Cater for Seder. Open to recs anywhere in the NY area -- going to be in Westchester, but happy to pick up food in the city, Teaneck, Monsey.... I called a couple of restaurants that aren't going to be doing Pesach, and am hoping I can get a jump on the research here.

New Kosher BBQ place in North Bethesda / Rockville, Maryland

I concur - it was pretty good, and a nice change for the area. I have been twice now, plus bought food for last shabbat. I suspect I'll be back often.

I thought the pulled chicken & beef were pretty good, the whole chicken was great, and the turkey was also terrific. I expected the latter two to be dry, and they weren't. I wasn't as big a fan of the brisket or the Texas beef. The garlic mashed potatoes could have been a lot more garlicky. The wings were fresh fried and well-sauced, and the sauces themselves are excellent. It's wonderful that they offer a gluten-free option.

They are clearly still working things out (green beans were plain & disappointing when I got them, but a friend had them two days later and they had meat in them and she loved them. I had the burger with sausage & egg, and it was very, very good, but a friend had a plain burger 2 days later and it was dry.)

They've only been open a week, so I suspect menu items & service will continue to improve. I have high hopes for it! I'm agree that they should have a childrens' menu, but I was glad to see that they have reasonable shabbat takeout menu options.

Since they order from Breadsmith anyway (I think that's where the buns, etc come from???), it would be lovely if they would also sell challah & breadcrumbs, etc.

Why don't Jews eat cheese?

Bashar sells unsupervised cheese. There's been huge debate in Jerusalem amongst individual communities about whether it's ok to buy any cheese from there. I'm not putting a thumb on the scale, just want folks to know this and not go accidentally thinking the entire place has a teudat.

Pesach in California?

We're going to meet a big group of friends over Pesach, and the furthest we've gotten in planning is to say west coast-ish. Anyone have a handle on the locales with decent Pesach food option (ESP restaurant and take out - we don't want to have to cook if possible). Our experience is that everything in DC shuts down except catering, and some places in NYC close, some stay open.

Looking for recs of locales, as well as specific restaurants / prepared food places that usually stay open.

Thanks!

ISO Kitchen Appliance suggestions (with shabbat mode)

We're doing a remodel - I saw threads on best appliances with shabbat mode from a few years ago, but of course, they bring out new models all the time. Anyone have suggestions on favorite (or least favorite) appliances, best ideas/ tips, thhings to stay away from. Extra points for discussion of the appliances utility in shabbat mode or ease of kashering.

Looking for everything, but especially ovens, fridge, stovetop, dishwashers, warming drawer or warming cabinet, wine fridge, microwaves, etc.

Kosher wine tasting recommendations?

I second the Skyview rec - we generally like their recs, they're very knowledgeable. Just describe to them what you generally like. Plus, they give case discounts for mixed cases.

ISO unique, whimsical, interesting michloach manot provider

I recall in the past seeing some really cute delivery options out there, including a carousel made of candies & cookies -- now I'm just seeing the more normal baskets with candy, grape juice/ wine, chocolate, fruit. Anyone have some favorite places to recommend?

Looking for places that deliver through mail.

Thanks in advance!

Dougie's in Baltimore

SMS, I'm not saying Dougie's are better then mine... but I can eat at Dougie's without my house smelling like oil all the way up the block!

I think you had to be a New Yorker in the 90's to really appreciate Dougie's. Yes, it's all about nostalgia. Koshergastronome, I was talking with a friend earlier today about how the kids were going to be disappointed when we go, after hearing about it for so long...
