Boise: Who knew?

Yes, I ate at Fork a couple of months ago and the food was great! Cocktails were, too. I especially liked this pork belly & beans dish.

Weekend lunches in or near Malibu

Neptune's Net is really touristy, in my honest opinion. I prefer Malibu Seafood, but maybe that's just me.

+2 for Quality Seafood. Then have a beer at Naja's Place.

Horrible Restaurant Names

Please do. I'm 30 and I still giggle to myself whenever I hear Uranus in a sentence.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY Thread - August 2015

First time posting in a TJ's thread. :)

YAY: Portobello Mushroom Fries. Juicy chunks of portobello in a light, crispy batter. These were really addictive and I had to try really hard not to eat the whole bag in one sitting! I had them with some gochujang aioli (gochujang mixed with garlic aioli), although it wasn't really needed because they're delicious on their own.

Best Fried Zucchini and Fried Asparagus in Los Angeles and surrounding areas.

A lot of people seem to like the fried zucchini at Steve's Burgers in Torrance. I personally don't, but I'm not really a fan of zucchini.

There are four locations in Torrance, but this one is the most popular:

Steve’s Char-Burger
18202 Prairie Ave
Torrance, CA 90504

Ricky's Fish Tacos - now a truck?

To echo everyone else, still great.

Where to stop from LA to Palm Springs?

It's not new, but I really like Cheeky's in Palm Springs for breakfast. And I like the sandwiches at The Sandwich Spot.

Patisserie Bechler in Pacific Grove

I wish I saw this before I tried Bechler yesterday.
The ham and cheese croissant was tough and barely had any ham or cheese. And the spinach mini quiche tasted like nothing, if that makes any sense.
Too bad Parker-Lusseau is closed on Sundays, or I would have gone there like I usually do when I'm in the area.

Fancy Santa Barbara lunch

Is it well-regarded amongst locals? I really enjoyed my rainbow trout with pan roasted spaetzle, crispy pork, citrus butter, baby spinach and shaved fennel. It was perfectly cooked with a nice crispy skin. And I still think about their milkshake with the meringue, banana ice cream, salted caramel, and graham crackers. That was heavenly, and I don't even really like sweet things! I also thought that the complimentary little jar of pickled veggies was a nice touch.

Sorry, didn't mean to go on a tangent. Maybe that will help the OP, though. :)

As someone who ate at Flossie's quite often, this is shitty news.

Best 'Crinkle Cut Fries'? Crispy! Mmmm :~)

The asada fries at Taco Sinaloa in Torrance come with crinkle cut fries.

Your favorite grocery store ice cream

I've never understood the appeal of Thrifty. I'm by no means an ice cream expert, but they've all tasted very mediocre to me. Is it a nostalgia thing, maybe?

Most underrated restaurant in OC?

Donde Adela in Orange. I don't think I've ever seen it mentioned here. Great little Colombian restaurant. I love the bandeja paisa, the empanadas, and the arepa.

Beach Plum Kitchen in Carlsbad

I will definitely check out Tin Leaf next time I'm in that area! That sandwich sounds intriguing. Thanks for the info. (Sorry for replying a hundred years later. I never got an email notification for your reply.)

L.A. Dish of the Month, August 2015 -- HOT DOGS/SAUSAGES

Does Japanese curry with sausage count? I know a lot of Hounds aren't a fan of Curry House, but I work next door to one and it's always a satisfying lunch. I mostly get this sausage and scrambled egg with spinach curry. $9.85 + 25¢ for "super hot".

Your favorite grocery store ice cream

I get it at the Whole Foods in Torrance and El Segundo, but I'm assuming their other locations will have it also.

Your favorite grocery store ice cream

I love Ben & Jerry's Rockin' Blondies flavor. "Buttery brown sugar ice cream with blonde brownies and butterscotch toffee flakes". It's exclusive to Target stores, apparently.

Beach Plum Kitchen in Carlsbad

My fiancé and I were in Carlsbad a few months ago, and we had a very enjoyable breakfast at Beach Plum Kitchen. I had the NY steak & eggs, and he had the pork belly hash pictured above (with jalapeños added). Both were great. Had their pancakes as well, and they were nice and fluffy. They also have seasonal house made jams, and we tried their lemon-blueberry one which was delicious! I've never seen the place talked about here and was wondering what others thought about it. Is it as good as I thought it was, or do I just have low standards? :) Anyway, I figured it was worth a mention in case anyone needed a breakfast spot in the Carlsbad area.

Looking for some good restaurant mushroom dishes

I used to love the Mushroom Brioche Box at Black Hogg, but they changed their menu and that was taken off. Our server did say that the chef brings it back from time to time, though.
