Agreed! I had the herb crusted cod (with the wilted spinach w/ bacon as a side) and it was perfect.

Doesn't anyone make Steak Fries Anymore?

Unfortunately not in the area you asked for, but I really do like the steak fries at The Hungry Pig. They're just as you described; crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

Yelper Dan, Has Been a Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad Boy....Local Chinese Restaurant Calls Out Dishonest Yelper With Surveillance Footage

I find Yelp's bookmarks feature to be extremely useful. I like reading about restaurants on Chowhound and other websites and then bookmarking them on Yelp. So when I'm in a particular area and need food, I'll have a bunch of places pop up in my bookmarks.

where to get Shirataki noodles??

Have you tried Mitsuwa, Marukai, or Nijiya markets?

Good "cheap"/ inexpensive eats in the Monterey area.

I will be going on a road trip from Los Angeles to Monterey next weekend. I'll be stopping at Big Sur Bakery for lunch and grabbing some drinks at Nepenthe (only because I love the view there). Should get to Monterey in time for dinner. I'm looking for inexpensive restaurants with good food. I'm open to all types of food and love hole in the wall spots. I'd be fine with Monterey proper, Pacific Grove, Carmel, Salinas, etc. The last time I was in the area, I really enjoyed my meal at El Zacatecano in Salinas. I don't know if that's a chowhound approved place, but I liked it a lot. So maybe places along that price range, if possible?
Would also love some lunch recommendations for the next day in the same areas.

Thank you!!

Anybody going to LA Weekly's The Essentials 2015?

I'm happy to say that the event turned out so much better than I thought it would, after hearing the horror stories about last year's. It was crowded, but since the venue was big, it wasn't cramped.
My favorite dish of the day was Maude's white asparagus pain perdue with foie gras mousse and pickled onions. Ink's rye pasta with smoked trout roe, bagel crumbs, and dashi brown butter was great as well. I actually really enjoyed all the dishes today. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try what Bestia, Sotto, and Alimento had as they ran out of food by the time I got to them, which was towards the end of the event anyway. And Plan Check's fryer broke while I was in line for them, so they had to stop serving their cruller donut holes with caramelized goat cheese, coconut sugar, almond sauce, white chocolate, and candied rosemary, which I heard was delicious.
Sorry for the rambling!

OMG breakfast burrito

I've heard great things about that burrito from Cofax. Gotta check it out soon.
