BIG, UGLY CATERPILLARS ate my flat leaf parsley!!

If you pet 'em on he head they'll send off a stink. I love them.

New to gardening - herbs and veggies that grow well without much direct sunlight

Neither does staring at them for a long time.

bay laurel "tree"!?!

I had a 15 foot bay laurel in my Charleston garden. The new owners of my old home are enjoying it now *sigh*.

I moved to NC and I now have one in the ground. I mulched it good and hope it makes it through the winter. It looks a little crunchy but I'm going to do the same: cut it back and hope for the best.

Good Food Near War Memorial Auditorium, Greensboro

OO Bonnie Raitt. Have fun.

Stamey's is right across the street. If you want something more upscale go over to Friendly Center to Green Valley Grill.

Where to buy peas in Charleston

Hey danna!

Vegetable Bin is a good idea. The Wadmalaw people come to Mt P, so you might want to go there first. I always like the Fields' produce. They had lots of peas last summer.

I think your Daddy would enjoy GO and you will as well. Tell them I said hey.

Breakfast in Charleston - alternative to Hominy Grill

It won't suck, unless you want caviar and champagne, and hate grits and biscuits.

Breakfast is Hominy's best. If you think it sucks, try Page's or Boulevard Diner both in Mt P. Boulevard puts cheese in the grits. Not my personal preference but some people like that.

Husk VS. McCrady's (FIG's a done deal)

I don't think McCrady's is fancypants. You don't have to get the 8 courses. The portions are small, though, compared to Husk or FIG. So if he's a hungry man he might need to stop for a snack on the way back to the hotel.

You might want to look at Cru Cafe for lunch. Great food, nice atmosphere. Sounds like a great trip!

Charleston Restaurant Week - September, recommendations?

No. They will have the regular menu available as well. They all will.

Any reports from Coda Del Pesce (Isle of Palms, SC) - Ken Vedrinski's new Italian local seafood place?

Sorry, I don't. But my friends who Know Stuff said it's good. Not fabulous, but nice enough.

Charleston - Husk or McCrady's?

pemma, that's an excellent description. Both are great, but different.

Will someone in the South adopt me?

Actually, it's an Albemarle connection, if you believe that! lynn, we may be talking about the same person, if his name is Chuck.

I'll let you know when I can get away. Relocating and the adjustment is busy!

Will someone in the South adopt me?

My understanding is it's a little of both. I COULD have the name wrong. I'll do some homework and get back to you.

Nags Head, North Carolina

Start by looking at this link. Sam and Omie's is a popular place that has been good for decades.

ever been mistaken for "southern"??

There is no mistaking that I am born, raised up and live in the South. I always turn it on when I visit Up North, because people first think I'm stupid, then realize I'm not, then think I'm somehow strong for overcoming, lol.

lynnlato, oh BOY. I'll try anything once.

Do you ever go to Central Grocery? One of my dear childhood friends is an owner. I am coming down soon on an IKEA run and I want to go. I'll holler at you.

Will someone in the South adopt me?

Heh heh, do you do windows?

OK, I don't even know what any of that stuff is.

I'm so glad you enjoyed Tristan. It is really nice-cool and different from places with marsh paintings and fried green tomatoes. Not that there's anything wrong with any of that. Their extra touches and just their niceness makes it special.

Did you try those cheese straws at Pink House? Sooo good.

Charleston for a few days

I like Jestine's ok, but it can get crowded since it's in town. You'll see fewer tourists at Bertha's.

Seewee is excellent. The fried shrimp is crunchy outside, sweet and tender inside. Out of all of those, Seewee is my favorite for fried shrimp.

Check with H&R re times.

Best seafood in Charleston, SC?

I agree. The Ordinary ticks your boxes except they don't have any plateaux. It's called a seafood tower and it was great when we went back last winter. We had Capers Blades too but they were in season at the time. There was nothing elaborate on the menu, just very fresh and simply prepared.

If you want something more elaborate try Peninsula or Fulton Five.

You will need to reserve at all those places.

Charleston Spirit Line Cruise Dinner

Hi, birgator,

I went on one a long time ago. It was ok. It's kind of like the places with nice views-the food doesn't have to be great because the views are. If her husband is really picky she should probably go somewhere else.
