Where to eat in Isle of Palms, SC
It's nice-right NOW, lol. We're waiting for the rain.
I think I would be remiss if I didn't recommend a trip into Charleston while you're here. Do a board search for tons of opinions. Have a great time.
Where to buy fish/shellfish retail in Charleston
Where will you be staying?
You can go to Mt Pleasant Seafood on Shem Creek in Mt P for fish. Magwood's and Wando, also on Shem Creek, will have fresh shrimp. Oysters are out of season until fall.
Where to eat in Isle of Palms, SC
Do you intend to stay on the island?
Sea Biscuit is great fro breakfast and lunch, but it's popular. Get there before you get hungry.
Huck's and Boathouse are both good.
On Sullivans: Atlanticville, Poe's, or Sullivans.
Momma Browns BBQ - Mt. Pleasant, SC
Aw! Congratulations! Baby Dunkel! I like it.
I am fine, so nice of you to ask. And yes, Atlanticville continues to be one of my favorites. They facebooked me when the softshells came in. Great customer service! I haven't been to Boathouse in a while but the location can't be beat. I have friends who say Huck's is still hit or miss, but it was great last time I was there.
I like Gullah Cuisine, but a recent poster didn't. There is massive road construction on Highway 17 right by there so factor that into your plans.
I will now confess (while hanging my head in shame) I drive past H&R every single day and have never stopped! I see that snappy chef walking to work sometimes when I go to work. If you go, let me know what you think. I'll make an effort.
Melvin's is ok for fast food. The Que is mustard sauced.
Langdon's is lovely and the food is exceptional. Nearby is Carter's Kitchen, which is excellent as well.

Opal is the Langdon group's new place. I've been once and liked it. Nice wine list, unusual menu.

I love Old Village Post House. It's real neighborhood place. They have real deals weekdays during happy hour on appetizers. That charcuterie plate is my go to.
Longpoint is one of Sal's places. It's a little out of my way but I've been twice and had good experiences both times. I usually go to the Mustard Seed.
Never been to Liberty, so I can't help you there. (Truthfully, these days I avoid Johnny Dodds. The traffic with all that construction is awful.)
Red Drum is excellent, as is the new sister restaurant , Next Door, which would be next door, lol. Red Drum does the Southwest twist, which is nice for a change. There's a very active bar scene there and a nice outdoor space.
I have been to 17 North 3 times, twice great, once just okay. They had a major shake-up a while back when Brett McKee broke with the group. I haven't been since. (Again, traffic) But the outdoor space is nice, and they have a garden.
I just drove through Kingstree and stopped at the original Brown's. It was so good. If you need a fix and are driving from that direction, make a stop. A Mexican place is going into the old MB location. It's a good one, so we are all hopeful.
Sorry you didn't love the Wreck. However, go back down there to the shrimp places if you want some off the boat to cook for yourself.
Have a great time. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.
Review of Dining in Charleston and Myrtle Beach - LONG
You mean back when "OD" meant "Ocean Drive" not overdose?
Charleston breakfast and lunch fare
Can't hurt. Tuesday night is fried chicken night and you have to reserve. If they have those link sausages, get them. I dreamed about them in Germany. Germany :)
Charleston breakfast and lunch fare
Hi Jeff,
While I love/adore Jack's, the drive out there is plagued with construction. Add some time into your travel plans. A little closer is Johnny's at Ace hardware in Mt. P. No tables, but excellent dogs.
We went to Grocery for the first time not long ago and I highly recommend it. The website says they're closed on Sunday, but we had brunch on Sunday, so call to see when they are open. 2 Boroughs Larder is open for lunch and worth the hike. There are 2 other Upper King spots that I haven't been to yet, but my friends recommend: macIntosh and Butcher and Bee.
None of these are breakfast places. Maybe somebody who's visited recently can help with that.
Glass Onion is sooo great. I look forward to your review.
Rock Shrimp near Myrtle Beach
Hey,
Rock shrimp are a Florida thing. You'll find plenty of their white and brown cousins though. The shrimp season began early and they are really sweet and delicious.
Blue Ridge Parkway
We used to enjoy Mabry Mill at Milepost 176. I haven't been there in years-I heard it was going to close but it didn't. Maybe somebody has been there recently can speak to it . But it's a lovely spot.
Richmond, VA to Asheville, VA - I 81 - Looking for some great places to eat along the way
The Stamey's on High Point Rd. is not too far off the highway. My 91 year old Daddy takes me to Stamey's every time I visit, so I have a sentimental attachment :) ( I drive)
Catering suggestions for Kiawah/Charleston SC
When? Shrimp is in season in warmer months, oysters when the water is cold.
We don't do clambakes. That's a, ah, northern thing. What you might enjoy is a Beaufort (aka, Frogmore, aka lowcountry boil) Stew. It's easy to do on your own. If it's in winter you can do an oyster roast.
Look at Mrs. Hamby's or Charleston Bay Gourmet. Both do great stuff.

Good Eats right off of I-95 through NC and SC
I know how tough that is. I usually take snacks!
There WAS a great place in Rowland NC called Pink House. It's only a mile off 95, but I think it closed. I could be wrong, so you might want to google it and call. Nice people, excellent fried chicken, and nice sides.
Also, not fabulous but not a chain is Clark's at Santee.
If your timing is right, McCabe's in Manning is excellent.
Summerton Diner is great as well, if you are traveling that far south. Good luck. That road is the biggest yawn ever.
Local spices & sauces
I can't speak specifically to HH or Savannah, but here in Charleston there are vendors at the Farmer's Markets that sell spices and spice mixes. You might want to check out the ones is those places.
Shrimp 'n Grits, Hominy Grill, Charleston, SC
Hehe. I like the white coarse, but try a couple and see what suits your taste. I don't do cheese in grits, but, again, it depends on your taste.
Kiawah Island - 2 days only
lynn, last time I was there I had the duck sausage and apple brunch dish. It knocked the socks right off my feet!
Shrimp 'n Grits, Hominy Grill, Charleston, SC
I should come over to your house ;D
You can always order grits more here:

CO Restaurant (King Street in CHS)
I'll have to try it. The sushi place near my house is so good I usually just go there. Thanks for the tip!
Fun Group Dining in Charleston?
Sure. Look at Cypress, High Cotton, Anson, or MacIntosh.
DNC barbecue sauce competition
Ack! Mustard has no place in any NC Q place! But, as always, mustard has no place on Q.
Thanks for the link! Interesting. And the politics will start, but then the thread will go.
72 hour pass in Columbus, GA
They will probably be compelled to drink beer!
Can't help you, I never go down there, but thank them for their hard work. Bless their hearts, in a good way.
Charleston, SC with a 9 yr.old
I'm sure he is adorable and smart-he hates kids' menues! And there ARE places that won't be comfortable for him. He would be welcome, but places like Cypress and McCrady's would bore him senseless. Look at the ones C-dawg and I mentioned, and let us know if you have more questions.
Charleston, SC with a 9 yr.old
Most, except for the really high end places, are family friendly. People live and raise families here, and hospitality is what we do. I'm not part of a couple (and never will be again:D) and I go out alone or with friends and sometimes their children all the time.
Are you looking for something kid centric? A place that's only families? You'll see lots of tourist families in the herd-em-in, heard-em-out spots near the Market, but I don't like any of them.
Look at Hominy Grill, The Grocery, Closed for Business, Fleet Landing (go for the view, the food is ok) Amen, and Shi-Ki for sushi. Shi-Ki is family owned. I've been there for dinner when their children were doing their homework at the nest table. Adorable.
Charleston, SC with a 9 yr.old
carolinadawg is right. We'll be happy to help if you can narrow it down a little. But good for you for raising a little Hound!
Kiawah Island - 2 days only
I don't get out there much, so I can't help you with the specifics. Not sure you can use the Sanctuary pool unless you're a guest. Can you get through the gate before check-in? If not, go to Beachwalker Park.
I CAN tell you that Fat Hen, on the way out, is great.
My Kiawah friends will give you better specifics on TA.
