Lebanese or Armenian bakery

There is a lot of selection around Warden and Lawrence, as indicated by the other posts. You can take the subway to Warden station and then take a bus for about 5-10 minutes. Check out Nasr's if you go, lots of yummy goodies and produce.

Great Middle Eastern Food in Toronto

Go to the Armenian Kitchen. They may even deliver to your address. They are located at Victoria Park and Eglinton. They make some of the best and most authenthic middle eastern food in the city. When I don't want to make it, I go there. Try the hummos, tabule, fatosh and definitely the shwarma. They have really good kibbe and eggplant too.

Kibbeh Nayyeh/Cig Kofte

If you are refering to the raw kibbeh, it is pretty hard to find. I get my kibbeh balls from the Armenian Kitchen. Tabule on Yonge carries them too, but I have yet to see the raw version in TO. Let us know if you find some, I haven't had it in a really long time.

Dinner at _______ and Dirty Dancing....please fill in this blank!

Just went to see Dirty Dancing on Friday (you'll love it). It is playing at the Royal Alex. We went to Crush for dinner, but it was a disappointment. Mostly due to poor service from the waiter who took forever to take our order and then told us we didn't have time to have appetizers (although we only wanted soup and the salad). We waited 25+ minutes for our main courses after that and barely made it in time for curtain call. You could always go to Far Niente which is not too far away and they pay for your parking. Just a suggestion!

wedding lunch (ceremony + reception) - possible restaurant ideas required

You should try the McLean House at Sunnybrook Estates on Bayview. Not a restaurant, but have in house caterers. Did my wedding there for your price range and was very happy with it. We brought our own cake and were married in the garden. Check out their website for menus, wine lists and vendors. Their food can be anything from tuna tartare to shrimp skewers, so when we got married I had fun stuff for us foodies and conservative things for the aunts and uncles. You can bring in as many flowers as you like and their staff will help set up. Huge parking lot and very easy to get to. It is also wheel chair accessible. Congratulations!

Armenian Kitchen @ Victoria Park/Eglinton

Was there last night for dinner. It was really good and for once the place was not packed. Love the eggplant, kibbe, luft, fatoshe and the rice. Take out stands up well and is great leftovers.
Had a good review in the Saturday Post. Although they said the hummos was average, which I totally disagree.

Armenian Kitchen @ Victoria Park/Eglinton

Just did take out the other night. Make sure to try their eggplant! Their salads are really good, especially the fatouche. For dining in, service can be spotty, either super rushed or really slow!
Enjoy!

Beach Eats: Let's Be Honest

I read in the paper (sorry can't remember which one Post or Star) that a new restaurant is opening soon in the Beaches, called Balsam. Anyone heard anything about this? Hopefully it will be great and put an end to our misery.

La Palette vs Batifole?

My hubby and I love Batifole. We have been to La Palette a couple of times and for us there is no comparison. We went last weekend to Batifole. We had reservations, but our table was not ready. They seated us with complimentary drinks and many apologies while our table was prepared. For the price and consistency of the food you cannot go wrong! We had already chosen what we wanted to eat while we waited, but the appetizer special of house smoked trout with French lentils sounded so good we ended up sharing it on top of our previous selections. The wine list is a great deal and with very little mark up. The service sets it apart from La Palette. No choice in my book, Batifole wins!

Suggestions for Sunday night dining..

Try Niagara Stree Cafe. Great wine list and the food is very good. One of the hidden gems open on a Sunday night.

Winterlicious at Thuet

I was at Thuet last night as well. Showed up for our reservation and had to wait as the tables weren't turning fast enough. We had the same experience with the wine as Kasumeat. They brought my companion a glass of wine, but not me, then came back after she took a sip and said it was the wrong wine and took it away. That was the only slip in service, otherwise very pleasant. Food was good but app and main were only lukewarm by the time they reached us. The regular menu did look better than the Winterlicious offerings.

Hal Burger going?

I am also glad to hear that they are only moving. Their burgers are great and so are the salads. I for one am looking forward to my next meal there!

Held my wedding there and it was great. Very easy to plan and they are very accomodating. Check out their website for menus and prices. They do change seasonally, but if you have your heart set on something, you can have it!

Best Beaches Thai

My favourite is the Urban Thai Bistro. I like my Thai food spicy and there is a definite kick to their food. Hot and Sour soup is not to be missed or the Mango Chicken.

Where to buy good wine glasses? (downtown Toronto)

Fully Tummy's post reminded me that the Ashley sale is on right now. Haven't made it there yet, but a friend told me they had a variety of Riedel there.

Where to buy good wine glasses? (downtown Toronto)

If you make it to The Wine Establishment, definitely ask when they are having their warehouse sale (held just around the corner). I got my Spiegla (who are owned by Riedel) champagne flutes for $30 for 4. Fabulous sales and they are really nice. Other suggestion: if you know someone who works in restaurants, ask them to order the Riedel restaurant line for you with their discount and they will be there pretty quickly.

Best Private Dining Room for...

You could try Rosewater. They have a couple different sized and styled private rooms that are good for business meetings.

Please help me find a bottle of Muscato d'Asti!

The LCBO carries a brand in the general list section of sparkling wine. They carry it year round, although they do have some special offerings in Vintages. I can't remember the name of the winery, but it is a black bottle with a pink rose on the label. It sells for about $12. Hope this helps!

Beach Eats: Let's Be Honest

I think the best Thai in the Beaches is the Urban Thai Bistro. It is on Queen across from Lick's. The decor is nothing great, but acceptable for a quick meal. The food is great, best I have had in the Beach and way better than a chain like Springrolls. They have fantastic jasmine and ginger teas as well. If you go try the mango chicken. I have friends who drive from North York to do take out for that dish alone!

PICK YOUR OWN Apples

Go to Algoma Apple Orchards in Whitby. You can pick many different varieties and you can even have a tour of the packing facility (much more interesting than you would think). Good bake shop and lots of fun things for kids to do.

Favorite Barefoot Contessa Recipes?

I love her spinach gratin. It was featured on the Food Network a couple of years ago. So high in fat, but oh so good!

Wanted: Really Good Pumpkin Pie

Check out Sweet Indulgences in East York (just north of the Danforth). Their baked goods are amazing and you can order ahead or wait in a really big line because they are that good!

Chez Victor

Amy Pataki reviewed it in the Star on Saturday. She rated it fair (I think). Heard it was better with the opening chef, who has be replaced by David Cristyian(sp).

I just had a great Philly Cheesesteak at Hal Burger. It was the special, but I think it is on the menu pretty regularily.

Another AMAZING dinner in the Beach....

You have my attention! What did you eat? I went there when it was called Eric's (possibly the same owner?) and thought it was ok.
Thanks for the tip.

I would go with Susur. His vegan and vegetarian menus are excellent. You won't be disappointed, especially with the price!

Lobby's Tasting Menu - Worth a try?!

The chef, Robert Bragagnolo has left Lobby and will be starting at Eight Restolounge this fall. Lobby has given up the focus created by Bragagnolo and is set to unveil a new chef next week in time for the film festival.
