New Years in La Jolla

Thanks for the reply. My son likes Mexican, Italian... can usually find something anywhere.

Funny, I was thinking about George's for New Years. Not a good place for a kid then?

New Years in La Jolla

Hi all,

My family (parents and 2 yr old son) will be staying in La Jolla for a week over New Years. I know there are lots of good old threads to look through, but I was wondering if someone could please recommend a good place to go for New Year's Eve -- early (like 5pm), with the baby. I would also be very interested in other restaurant recommendations (sushi, Mexican, California) in La Jolla or within driving distance. My wife and I will definitely get a night or two without the baby while there, so is there one top spot we should hit while free?

Thanks!

Chicago advice

Hi all,

My wife and I come to Chicago once a year, and eating out is our favorite activity. Have been to Alinea, Bayless's places, and some others. We were looking at lots of places -- Schwa, Sprout, El Ideas, Graham Elliot, L20 -- and we just don't feel like spending another $300 on one of these concept places. No doubt they are amazing, but we are looking for something more reasonable and laid back. We had lunch at Xoco last time and loved it. That's the kind of place we prefer now -- not fancy, not expensive, but a damned good sandwich, more satisfying than any course at Alinea. Quartino's is another one we like. Any recommendations for dinner would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Durham eats?

Hi all,

Will be 2 nights in Durham in a few weeks, staying right around Palace Green. Any recommendations of places to eat, any price, any cuisine? Thanks!

One night in Edinburgh

I finally did hear back, so Grain Store it is.

21212 did look interesting too -- will be a good reason to come back! Thanks again.

One night in Edinburgh

Thanks! Unfortunately, I'll be there on Monday, and both are closed! I thought the Grain Store looked interesting, but have emailed twice with no response...

any restaurants in London serving gull's eggs?

St. John had them last year. Selfridge's dept store had them too.

Tried them at St. John, and it didn't taste that different from a chicken egg!

One night in Edinburgh

Hello,

I will be in Edinburgh for one full day and night in mid-June. Staying in the city centre, on Princes St. Would love a restaurant recommendation, please. I don't care if it's cheap or expensive -- I am looking for something interesting and/or special to Scotland. Allergic to some shellfish (crab, lobster), but love oysters. Thanks in advance!

Sonoma w/ baby - Thanksgiving

Hi all,

My wife and I are coming to visit from the east coast (first time for her), and we're looking for some baby-friendly upscale restaurants near Sonoma. Our baby is well behaved and just loves to sit and watch. As for my wife and I, we are eager to try some of the many great restaurants in the area! Especially interested in places with local ingredients and seafood.

We are also looking for a restaurant to go to on Thanksgiving day.

And while I'm writing -- has anyone visited any of the oyster farms on the coast? Worth visiting??

Thank you!
