Bars for a casual drink, Mandalay Bay and Venetian

We really liked Public House last time we were in Vegas, and plan to hit it up again this weekend. If you're a beer lover this place is a must.

Seafood Markets in Puerto Vallarta Area

I'd much prefer the fish market experience to Costco (plus I don't have a costco card). Just don't want to drive to La Cruz all the time.

I checked out the one at Palmar de Aramara the other day and it was pretty good. Not as nice as La Cruz, but still good quality.

Yes I have been there a few times. It's fantastic, was just hoping for something a little more central.

Seafood Markets in Puerto Vallarta Area

This thread is quite old, but just wondering if either of these markets are still open, and if so... are they where i should be heading or are there other new/better places?

Sushi in Puerto Vallarta

Thanks for the suggestion.

We ended up going to Kabuki as we were in Old town for some drinks. I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely recommend it. We will be back for sure.

Sushi in Puerto Vallarta

Just wanted to bump this up as it's quite old. Wondering if these are still the best options for Sushi in PV, or if there are other options now.

It's my birthday this weekend and I've been craving good sushi (been in Mexico for 4 months already... need a bit of a change).

Thanks!

Looking for craft beer in Puerto Vallarta

There is a brand new place on the Malecon called Union, and they have a fantastic selection of Mexican craft beer. They've only been open a few weeks and we've already been there 4 times.

meat based Mexican appy

Don't have any options for keeping it warm. We'll be at a Vacation rental for a couple of weeks, so only have what they have.

Some day I will stop traveling (or maybe just travel less) and have a real home with kitchen gadgets.

meat based Mexican appy

I like the Queso Fundido idea as it fits well with the "Salsa & Ceviche" theme since you also eat it with tortilla chips.

My concern however is keeping it warm.

Perhaps I can come up with a less cheesy more creamy version of this that wouldn't need constant heat.

meat based Mexican appy

I'm having some people over for a "salsa & ceviche" party. I'm looking for a meat based appy to serve as well to balance things out (and cause one friend isn't a big seafood fan).

Any suggestions on something that fits with this mexican theme? Maybe something with Mexican Chorizo?

(also feel free to share your favorite ceviche or salsa recipe)

Top Chef Texas - Ep. #7 - 12/14/11 (Spoilers)

i totally agree!

Finger Limes

We're up in QLD now... heading to Cairns/Palm Cove later this week. Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes out for them. Would love to try them out!

Finger Limes

I had never heard of finger limes before coming to Australia. Since I've been here, I've seen them mentioned in several recipes, but can't seem to find them in any stores. Granted I've mostly been shopping at the bigger chains (Coles, Woolworths) but seeing as they grow native here I thought they would be more common.

Is this something I should be looking for at farmers markets? Or where would one find finger limes?

Sushi grade fish in Manly area

It was excellent!

Sushi grade fish in Manly area

Just thought I'd give an update. I ended up going to the Sydney fishmarket as I just couldn't find much in Manly. I was actually quite surprised at the lack of fish options in the area.

Anyway.. it ended up being a nice way to see some of Sydney that I otherwise wouldn't have gotten to see, but I definitely wouldn't want to make that trip too often if I lived there. Probably just for special occasions.

Thanks again for all the help!

Sushi grade fish in Manly area

Thanks so much, looks like I have some options.

Will have a look around Manly once we arrive on the weekend and see what I can find. Then I'll decide how far I want to travel.

Cheers!

Sushi grade fish in Manly area

Ok, mapped it out with the Sydney Ferries site and it doesn't seem as difficult as I first thought to get to the Fish Market... it is a bit far (about and hour and 20mins) but might be a nice way to see Sydney from the water.

Also does anyone know if the Manly Fish Market/Cafe actually sells fish, or are they really just a restaurant rather than a market?

Dinner party menu help

I'm planning a small dinner party for some close friends. Originally I was thinking of doing a japanese type sunomono salad... something like this: http://big2beautiful.com/2010/08/japa... but with rice noodles as well. Then follow up with an assortment of sushi.

Problem is I'm having difficulties finding various types of fish that are fresh enough for sushi. I can still do the sunomono salad as the shrimps are cooked, and I might be able to get some salmon, but that's about all. Hardly enough for a 'variety' of sushi.

I then came across this dish which looks great: http://www.frombatoparis.com/2010/06/...

So two questions:

1. Assuming I can get salmon would following the sunomono salad with this sushi/ceviche fusion dish be too much acidity? Or do you think they would pair ok together?

2. Any alternate suggestions for a main dish that might pair well with either one of the above as an appy?

Thanks!

Sushi grade fish in Manly area

Thanks guys... will keep looking and see what I find, but if it ends up being too complicated I might just change my menu plan instead.

Sushi grade fish in Manly area

Basically looking for tuna and salmon to be eaten raw.

Sushi grade fish in Manly area

Both the Fish Market and your suggestion of Wellstone, seem quite far from Manly. I'm not really familiar with Sydney and will be relying on public transport, so a bit worried about how manageable this would be.

Are there no options closer to Manly?

(BTW, I'm originally from Vancouver)

Sushi grade fish in Manly area

Staying with some friends in Sydney for a week, and as a thank you I want to cook them dinner. Looking for a fishmonger in Manly (or an easy commute on public transport) that has sushi grade fish available.

Can anyone recommend where to go?

Thanks!
