Boston's best salads? A round up

I love that salad at Area Four SO much. I think they currently have a salad with green beans and shaved mushrooms that still has the peppered hazelnuts, pecorino, and lemon vinaigrette. I need to get over there to try it...

Bagels coming to Cambridge?

Agreed about the sourdough (both its presence and not liking it). I will check out the place in Framingham. My favorite is still Rosenfeld's, though I haven't been there in a few years (I just fill up on bagels when I'm in NY).

Bagels coming to Cambridge?

I thought the pretzel bagel was very tasty, but the others are just okay. And they're not what I think of when I think of real bagels (though I've only had NYC bagels, not Montreal... is that what Bagelsaurus is?). Still, that pretzel bagel is super delicious.

They are not open yet. And they look like they will never be open. I think I should probably stop being excited about bao in Central...

Any updates on this place? Their website is useless and facebook says end of June.

Totto Ramen?

I went to Sapporo in Central Square. It was fine, but didn't really seem worth writing about. I got the original ramen. Nice springy noodles, okay pork, and I liked the inclusion of yu choy. I found the broth way too heavy, though. I've had Sapporo ramen in Porter and while the broth there was rich, I could still eat it on its own. The stuff in Central I could only tolerate as a sauce on the noodles and other soup ingredients. Having a spoonful of it alone was like drinking gravy. I will eat there again because it's conveniently located, affordable, and not bad, but I wouldn't make a special trip. I'm hopeful that Totto will finally fix the lack of good ramen in Boston (I don't count weird/fancy ramen or ramen that's only available certain days/times).

Ads That Play Automatically

I'm glad to hear that you don't usually allow these ads. I've had a Nellie's Cage Free Eggs ad start autoplaying a few times. Please get rid of it! I don't use ad blockers, because I want to support sites that give me great content for free. But I'll just stop coming to the site if it startles me with autoplay ads too many times.

Thanks!

Paris Baguette in H Mart Central Sq.- Your Fav Items?

I have tried too many things from here because it's right across from my bus stop. Best has probably been the pain aux raisins. Worst was definitely the belgian waffle, which was heavy and kind of gross. Overall I find everything to be a little too sweet for my taste. Even the plain croissant had a bit of glaze on it. The pistachio orange and the almond rum thing were both really tasty, but I would've liked them to have some crispness and they were both super sweet (which I guess is the point).

Hi, need help for a final paper on food trucks!

The Pennypackers guys are also super friendly and chatty. At least they were the one time I was at their truck.

The new ramen place being Yume Wo Katare? Or is there an even newer place?

I am a Victim of Their Success

JM Curley and Highland Kitchen are the two biggest for me, though I've had some decent luck getting a table at JM Curley pretty recently. Brick & Mortar, though there are still times when it's pretty quiet.

May 2014 Openings and Closings

I'm hoping that's just because it's so new. I really want to try this place, but am not super excited about waiting in line for ramen (though at least the weather is good!).

Will Totto eventually be serving lunch?

Saturday dinner recs in Central Sq for a group of 12 year-olds and adult chaperones

If it's not on a Tuesday, my choice would be Mary Chung. Good for large groups, no dairy, nearby, very tasty.

But those were both kind of terrible, weren't they? At least they both got fairly dismal reviews...

Low-starch dinner in Chinatown tonight?

Minced meat string bean lettuce wrap from Best Little Restaurant.

Also, thanks for starting this thread! I'm trying to cut back a bit myself and initially thought I'd have to just avoid Chinatown. Not true! Thanks to everyone for the ideas.

H Mart Open in Central Square!

I feel bad about Harvest, except that every time I've bought milk or cream there in the past few months, it's been spoiled. I want them to be better than they are. On the other hand, is there that much overlap in offerings between Harvest and H Mart?

Agreed. Supreme is far better than that other place (I have no idea what the name of it is, I always just think of it as "The Flavored Vodka Store").

I think these bagels are a bit different than Montreal style. The pretzel bagel is amazing. That was my favorite by far. I need to get back over there to get another one!

Teriyaki House?

Has anyone been here since they took over Doowee & Rice's space? They're serving most of the Doowee menu, but I'm wondering how similar it is now that the original chef has moved on. Do they still have the amazing hot sauces and that super garlicky stuff that came with the salad?

Inexpensive Davis Square favorites

M3's fried chicken tasted like cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice when I went. It was also suuuper dry. However, this was a long time ago (pretty soon after they opened), so it may have changed.
