Best Dishes in Chinatown

No, they're fat wheat noodles. Very tasty.

JM Curley before a show?

U-Burger? That would definitely be fast and is pretty tasty. I'd probably go somewhere in Chinatown, myself...

Bagelsaurus: How Early is Early?

I think these bagels are a bit different than Montreal style. The pretzel bagel is amazing. That was my favorite by far. I need to get back over there to get another one!

Teriyaki House?

Has anyone been here since they took over Doowee & Rice's space? They're serving most of the Doowee menu, but I'm wondering how similar it is now that the original chef has moved on. Do they still have the amazing hot sauces and that super garlicky stuff that came with the salad?

Inexpensive Davis Square favorites

M3's fried chicken tasted like cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice when I went. It was also suuuper dry. However, this was a long time ago (pretty soon after they opened), so it may have changed.

Brunch is also super tasty.

Whole bean coffee: identifying characteristics and local recs

It's funny, I actually also dislike acidity and love Sumatran and that sort of coffee, but for whatever reason love Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. Though for me it might be a nostalgia thing, since that was one of the first good coffees I ever had after being raised on Folger's and Dunkin' Donuts...

Agreed. But not surprising to me. Though I've only been to the Harvard Sq. location.

Tiny Chef Challenge

The Abbey? There are 3 or 4 seats that overlook the small kitchen, but they might be backless bar stools. Not sure.

That is VERY exciting. I love The Abbey. It's one of my favorite restaurants.

Cutty's Next Special Cluckin' Sunday is Feb 9th, a Week from Today

As mentioned below, the bun is very sweet. Iceberg lettuce is not that sweet I guess? But it certainly doesn't take away from the sweetness, nor do the onions.

It might be a delicious sandwich to most people and is worth trying for sure. I just don't like sweet flavors very much unless balanced by spiciness, sourness, or other sharp flavors. This sandwich just didn't have anything balancing out the sweetness.

I was surprised to find that I didn't like this sandwich at all. The chicken itself is pretty good, but aside from the cheese, every other piece of the sandwich is sweet, so it ended up tasting too dessert-like for me. I managed to finish it, but would not ever get it again.

Their roast pork sandwich, on the other hand, is absolutely perfect.

Thai Chiles?

Good to know. I've been meaning to check out Market Basket anyway.

We should get together, since I'm looking for approximately 999,999,999 thai chiles. :)

Thai Chiles?

Hmmm, hadn't actually even thought of that. I usually just make chopped salted chiles (aka Universal Condiment) when I have an overabundance of chiles, but maybe I should try freezing some next time I find some good red thai chiles. Thanks.

Thai Chiles?

Wait, where? I was just at Russo's a few weeks ago and didn't see them there. I ended up buying finger chiles instead in large part because they were so lovely, but they're not hot at all.

Thanks to everyone for the tips! I guess I should've mentioned that I don't have a car, so places on the T are best. Still, nice to know all possibilities for the rare times that I do have access to a car...

Thai Chiles?

I'm having a hard time finding thai chiles lately. Anyone know where I might find them? A few months ago I found a bag of red thai chiles at the Fresh Pond Whole Foods (at least I think that's where I got them). They were great and that would be my ideal to buy again. Fresh Pond had green ones last week, but they were pretty mucky looking. Thanks!

I went to the Harvard Sq. Shake Shack for lunch today. The service was really good, but the food was not great. I got both a hamburger and a hot dog since I wasn't interested in the non-crinkle fries. I ended up getting some fries for free, though, since they had some trouble with my order (it wasn't even a big deal to me, but nice of them to do that). The added fries made for a pretty huge lunch, so it was a good thing I'd just come from the gym! The hamburger was cooked nicely, but crazy salty in one spot. The hotdog was also cooked pretty well, but what kind of hot dog are they using? It was kind of strange tasting. Not in an off way, just different tasting than most hotdogs I've had.

The fries were okay. They weren't very hot, but they weren't cold or anything and were an okay mix of crunchy and softer. They were no crinkles, though...

I thought the staff was really fantastic. Very friendly and helpful and all clearly working their butts off. So I'll give this place another shot just based on that (and nothing I ate was bad, just all could've been a little better).

I didn't find Kirkland Tap to be all that loud, but also didn't find the food to be all that good.
