Sel gris -- advice on using, buying? Just read somewhere something a chef said about how much he relies on sel gris (to be precise ;) ) that piqued my curiosity. Looking for advice on how to use it, brands folks like? Thanks for any help. |

What do you eat when you are angry? Last night it was half a big bag of some kind of "smart" cheddar popcorn. Healthy enough ingredients, but that quantity just before bed didn't do my stomach any favors this morning... |

What do you eat when you are angry? Thanks, sounds like what the doctor ordered! |

What's the verdict on turkey bacon? Turkey bacon has a lot of sodium & tastes awful. |

I used to always put ketchup on fries... and burgers, etc. but then stopped liking it... It just seems a kind of silly mix of salt & sugar to me without any real redeeming value... |

Classic books about cooking not cook books +1 also, Ruth Reichl's Comfort me with apples |

Sunday Barnes and dim sum brunch Glad to hear Imperial Inn is still good. Haven't been there in years but used to go regularly. |

lemon mayo or wasabi mayo. I'll add in-season tomatoes, lettuce or arugula... but not a whole lot else. Don't want to mask the great flavor :) |

Things you wish were commercially available? Wegman's hast it, but don't know if there's one near you. |

Yes, just noticed it too & was wondering... A restaurant that can compete on South St. must have something going for it! |

Philly Mag Top 50 Restaurants... Main Line Today is the same. I'll stick with LaBan reviews, thanks. |

It's all about the water - what exactly does this mean? NYC tap water is actually mountain water & is delicious! Better than most bottled! |

Philly Mag Top 50 Restaurants... I have trouble taking any of their reviews seriously... something about the way they're written is just off, as if there's some ulterior motive for writing what they do. Anybody know what I mean? |

Rice salad - I'm being tested by my MIL yes. it *is not* about finding the perfect recipe... it's about how to deal with a bitch!! :) |

HELP! Killed a wild boar...now what? One of my favorite memories is of being at a friend's house that had floor-to-ceiling windows, sitting there watching Judge Judy (I know, I know, but I love the show :) ), drinking a beer, watching the snow pile up, & then watching a herd of 35 deer file one by one into the yard & cavort & feed on some pine trees. Amazing. And herd behavior is fascinating -- actually much like people behavior! |

Rice salad - I'm being tested by my MIL Why not just make something you think you'd like, sans ingredients you know others won't eat? There's no pleasing her anyway, from the sound of it :) Good luck. Your best bet is to take wine & drink plenty of it! |

Overheard someone talk about/mention "Chowhound" in everyday life? You mean like in real life? :) |

making and using rendered butter? Just melt it slowly on super low heat -- you can also gently microwave it. The easiest way to clarify it is to refrigerate it, then scrape off the gunk on top and pour out the stuff on the bottom. Yep, for baking you'd probably want to lightly reheat it so that you have liquid to use. |

The Office Pot Luck - What Would You Bring? I used to bring a bitter greens winter salad recipe from Silver Palate with a garlic vinaigrette. People went nuts over it. Greek salad is also popular. |
