Zam Zam market closing in Culver City

Maybe if they had cleaned the place up more customers would have come and they could have paid a higher rent. I live within a 1/2 mile from that place and have always been amazed at the love for Zam Zamthe, even when they displayed their "C" rating. Nothing I have ever read here would make me try food in a what looked to me like a disaster. I'm sure the attacks will start now.

Light Whipping Cream

I shop Gelson's, Bristol, Whole Foods, and most of the big chains. Have not seen it in a long time. Any ideas?

Buttermilk

Will try this. I never thought of making my own buttermilk. Sounds good. Thanks for the idea.

Roll 'N Rye 'n Culver City Closing?

Tried the brisket years ago and thought it was good but always get the BP. Along with wienermobile's suggestions and yours, I might need a stomach reduction. Actually, I do already. That's part of why I'm NeverEnough.

Buttermilk

Does whole milk buttermilk exist and if so, where can it be found? I shop Gelson's, Bristol Farms, and Whole Foods (as infrequently as possible).

On your recommendation, I will try those things - as soon as it gets below 100 degrees. Thanks

Movie Dining Etiquitte/Landmark Theatres, Westside pavillion

I worked for Landmark Theatres for a long time and helped open The Landmark. Pretzels, hot dogs with spicy relish, and Peet's Coffee are all good there. Seen recently, with food:
A Most Wanted Man - great movie
Magic in the Moonlight - needed popcorn, and hot dogs for that crap
Trip to Italy - great food movie
The 100 Foot Journey - predictable fluff but still enjoyable

We are going to see My Old Lady tomorrow. Have a feeling I'll need a lot of popcorn, hot dogs, pretzels, and Peet's Coffee.

Taylor's Steakhouse dinner tonight

Not only is the basket of bread they serve excellent, their cheese garlic bread is the best I have had outside of St. Louis, where almost every Italian restaurant has a version.

Best Pizza?? Not Paper Thin Crust Either

If like me, you want just cheese, light sauce and maybe sausage or pepperoni, what happens to the rest of the "space" on that pizza? The crust looks so good, I want to drive out there and get one.

Roll 'N Rye 'n Culver City Closing?

That's all I get at Langer's. I think the other food there is passable to terrible.

At Brent's, it's the Black Pastrami. Nothing else.

Roll 'N Rye 'n Culver City Closing?

I tried Roll & Rye when I moved into CC in 1993. Never went back. I'll take the drive to Langer's or even Brent's.

WHO HAS THE BEST PIZZA IN L.A. AND WHY?

As usual, I feel overwhelmed by the knowledge and authority on this site. Being a recent addition, and at an advanced age, I can only hope to try many of the places that sound so good.

Just wanted to add here(and I'm fine with a beating), that I think La Rocco's Pizza on Main Street in Culver City, has pizza worthy of Vito's and any other NYC style pizza here on L.A. And for something a bit different (like some pizza in St. Louis but not the type with Provel), I like Julie's Pizza on Palms and Sepulveda. The addition of corn meal, for an easier slide in the oven, makes a nice crunch to the crust.

We Provide Meals That are Completely Unaffordable and Unappealing to People Who Actually Live in This Neighborhood.

But who was there before the people now there? And before them?

Where to find thin sliced bread for tea sandwiches?

I don't know any stores in LA that carry Pepperidge Farm, except Ralph's in the Culver Center, near the corner of Overland and Venice (maybe all Ralph's stores.). They carry two types of wheat bread and now and a potato bread and a sourdough. They are not sliced as thin as PF thin sliced white bread but after removing the crusts, they might work, especially the potato bread.

Some help here? There is a Japanese owned bakery in a large outdoor shopping center in Irvine. I don 't remember the name but they have square, thin sliced white bread. Maybe someone knows the place.

Wexler's Deli - Yesterday

I might give it one more try, on your recommendation. And you are correct about letting the place know. I usually do but did not do this time. Yes it could have been a staff member(s) fault. Two, to be exact. The person preparing the sandwich, and the person serving it. If I go again, and that happens, I will scream loudly without profanity. On the other hand, I have Langer's not too far away and at GCM, I have La Moreliana and Egg Slut. BTW, I forgot to mention this: before my friends and I entered GCM, we were outside admiring some Police and their horses. I saw J. Gold walking out of the market with what may have been his son.

Did you have a pastrami sandwich, and if so, was it chopped into hash? My experience remains as I noted.

I am not impressed with celebrity chefdom.

Wexler's Deli - Yesterday

Exactly. I don't think I am tough to please because I don't appreciate chopped up scraps. I'll stick with Langer's, where I have never been served chopped crap.

Wexler's Deli - Yesterday

I guess they saw us coming. Chopped in small pieces. Never should have happened, even once. Will never go back.

Wexler's Deli - Yesterday

And it was an odd tasting mustard. Eating at GCM wasn't really the problem. The incredible heat was the problem. I live in Culver City and I like air-conditioning, so the 105 degrees that it felt like, was a bit too much for me. I'll go back when it cools off. I have a story about Belcampo Meat Co., too but I will post that separately.

Wexler's Deli - Yesterday

I was just reading about Peter Haller's go-to places. One was Wexler's Deli. Had a photo of their pastrami sandwich. Nice photo. Thick slices like Langer's. Unfortunately, that's not what my friends and I had yesterday. We were on a GCM tasting tour. The pastrami was chopped fine and incredibly fatty. Yeah, fat is good but not at a 50 to 50 ratio. At least not to me. Langer's still beats everyone, and edges out Katz's because of Langer's incredible rye.

We did have good burgers with eggs on them at Egg Slut. And a great carnitas taco at the place right next Egg Slut, right at Broadway. Sorry, I don't remember the name.

And what about whole milk buttermilk, or isn't that possible? Only thing I see is 1% and 2%.

Best guac, chips and salsa

El Abajeno, Culver & Inglewood, has good guacamole and salsa. Ask for the chunky guacamole or you will get sauce. Chips are not terrible but better purchased elsewhere.
