bamboo fire--delray
Am down in Delray this week and would love to try. I'm thinking Wed or Thurs eve. Are reservations (for indoor seating) recommended at this time of the year?
Should I take my girl out to a Steakhouse on first date? Teens
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread! Would love to hear about how the date went as well!
New to NYC - looking for advice on Midtown East/Sutton/Turtle Bay area?
There is a green market at Dag Hammerskjold Plaza (betw. 2nd & 1st Aves @ 47th St). I believe it is on Wednesdays. I think it's open year round but much smaller in the cold weather.
Moving to a new hood 28th street East Side. Food/Grocery/Restaurant Recs?
I live by 42nd but when I walk south down 2nd for food, it's usually to Waterfront for great beer & pub food (2nd & 30th) or to El Parador on 34th (betw. 2nd-1st) for a more upscale Mexican/Spanish/margarita dinner.
Dosas near Grand Central!!
It is Grill 44. They do serve Middle Eastern food as well as Indian but it seems that Indian is more popular. I have seen those Dosa's being eaten there, but I can't keep myself from ordering the Kati Rolls (I love the potato ones).
Good Indian betw. West Palm & Ft. Lauderdale?
Any recs for Indian in the Delray Beach / Boca area? Don't want to have to go as far as Miami! Let's say between West. Palm & Ft. Lauderdale. Thanks!
Dining Level at Grand Central
And let's not forget the lunchtime sandwich menu at the Oyster bar. Oops - sorry - I see you did mention this - can't seem to delete!
When's the last time anyone ate at Sarge's?
I had a very tasty burger smothered in fried/grilled onions with french fries a few weeks ago, with a Dr. Brown's Black Cherry. Now you all have me craving a pastrami sandwich! (I just happened to be in the mood for a burger the last time!)
Curry Hill Lunch
Friend is suggesting Curry in A Hurry for lunch. I'm sure we an do better? Someplace in the same area (they work by Park & 20th) for Indian that is fairly inexpensive? Maybe with lunch special or buffet?
Thx!
Classy Nachos
I'm pretty sure they serve venison chili nachos at Waterfront Ale House mentioned above
Picholine or other suggestions for Bday
Sept 9th birthday here! Cheese lover who has never been to Picholine would like to go to the wine & cheese bar for - well, wine & cheese, as well as an appetizer/dish to start. I'd rather sit at the bar area (are there tables?) with my friend (2 ppl) and fill up mostly on cheese (as opposed to the dining room with a huge meal 1st).
Does anyone know if the bar is walk in only (can you reserve a table?) and what would be the best time to be assured a seat?
Happy birthday to all!
Thx!
i'm alone and need a place to eat for dinner 2nite
If you like seafood you could treat yourself to Pearl Oyster Bar or Mary's Fish Camp in the village? Awesome (and expensive) lobster rolls at both. Counter dining at both as well. Being a Saturday night though, they will both be VERY crowded. You must be willing to either eat early, or wait for a single bar seat to open up (which probably wouldn't be a really ong wait)
Ali Baba's Terrace on 2nd Avenue
I agree! Major disappointment! I've been a long time fan of the 34th street Ali B's ... about 10 blocks south of my nabe. Was really excited about this place opening nearby. Just walked past this eve ... round bread rolls ... I asked to see the menu & they gave me a take out/delivery menu - I asked for the in-house menu & they said it was the same ... so that means no mixed app platter and no lamachan! I'm walking to 34th from now on!
Vichyssoise
Where can I find some good vichyssoise in Manhattan (preferably near Midtown) these days? Sit down or take out. I had a tasty "red pepper" version from Hale and Hearty today but wondering where else to look. Any other recommendations?
Thanks!
Eating out Alone in NYC
You might want to consider Barney Greengrass if you can go for a weekday lunch!

Cucumber Margaritas
I've had the cucumber margarita at Mercadito on Ave B which I love (didn't have watermelon in it though that sounds interesting) and just last night I had a margarita at Tolaoche (http://www.toloachenyc.com) called the De la Calle (muddled cucumber, jicama, basil & lime) which was really awesome!
New Ali Baba on 2nd & 46th?
Anyone have any inside info on when this new establishment might be opening? Looks like they are getting closer! Seems they will have outdoor seating on the roof. (This is the old Hsin Yu spot).
Table-side Caesar salads?
Pietro's does an excellent one ... technically they don't toss it "table side" but it's the real deal.

Expensive dinner near Grand Central
Shall we add Pietro's into the mix?! Old school Italian steakhouse on 43rd betw 2nd & 3rd.

What to order at Applewood tonight?
Have a reservation this eve & am wondering what's best? Everything on the menu sounds good - I like duck & lamb but also fish! Any recs?! Thx!
Bar Stuzzichini
Had dinner at the front bar recently. It was quite crowded. My friend & I shared an order of "stuzzichini". I enjoyed the artichoke most of all. Also enjoyed the clams - the broth was fantastic for bread dipping. Rice balls were quite tasty too.
We had a quartino (or whatever it is called) of a fantastic Moscato. I'm not up on my wines, but I think it was a 2006 Moscato. I'd love to figure out exactly what it was so I can buy a bottle! They dosn't seem to have a website up (with a wine list to peruse). Perhaps another trip to the bar is in order!
Visiting New York -- Alone
I went to Tides once alone & it was ok. I'd recommend Pearl Oyster Bar instead though!
Best STEAK from Italian restaurant
Pietro's does do great Italian food & great steak (and awesome caesar's). That said, their steaks are for the most part NY Strips (steak for 2 is a big strip that they slice up). They do have a filet mignon, chopped steak, etc on the menu as well. Try a side of the "shells ala Nat" ... mmmmm
Suggestions for Clinton Street/Lower East Side restaurants
I just had a fantastic meal at Frankies 17 Clinton Street. Had the "Home made Cavatelli with faiccos hot sausage & browned sage butter". It's a small place & gets crowded quickly. But on a Wednesday @ 6:30 it was just perfect.
What to order at Keen's steakhouse?
Lamb chops are very good as is the famous Mutton Chop (sort of like a prime rib version of a lamb chop is the best I can describe it). I once had a delicious sort of ice cream sundae there for dessert. As far as dress - personally, I'd lose the socks with the sandals, LOL, but I think they'd be ok. I'm sure others will chime in with differing opinions.
Sandwiches at Grand Central Oyster Bar
They have sandwiches only at lunch I believe - ask for the sandhich menu - I like the fried oyster Po Boy & the fried clam sand too.
The best NYC steakhouse?
I'm curious if anyone has been to Benjamin Steakhouse (on E. 41st) & what they thought?
NYC's All City Best Buffalo wings (2007)
I went to Syracuse Univ. & have fond memories of Sal's Birdland Wings. Mmmm .. not traditional Buffalo wings, but awesome all the same.
