Red Sauce left out overnight - Still safe to eat?

It's not the time in the fridge that is worrisome, it is the time you left it at room temperature before putting it in the fridge.

Concert was great, but....
First, I wish I would have known about the tailgating culture, yeah, I knew one could bring food in, but it was an extensive tailgating party, and we had already eaten. We did run into friends in the parking lot, though, and they shared a cocktail.
Second, we used a debit card at a restaurant, and a gas station. Our account was cleaned out by thieves a couple of weeks later, either by the restaurant employees or a device on the gas pump. Luckily, the credit union covered the loss immediately.

What's for Dinner #236 -- Hot Town, Summer in the City Edition [Through July 31, 2013]

Sorry to say, this is my last post. I will have to fight the addiction to logging on.
Tonight's dinner may include some of the produce (finally!) from last night's market: leeks, onion, garlic, green beans.
So sorry to leave, but I am finding the uneven moderation on these boards to be just ridiculous.
I'll find another forum, will probably keep my screen name.
Ciao!

Lutefisk: yay or nay?

I had always thought that lutefisk was a "poor man's food" that the immigrants ate in America, and not something generally served in Norway or Sweden. Not so, it seems?

White American Cheese - where to buy?

Yes, we get it at Walmart in Wyoming, too. Also at our Smith's (Kroeger) grocery stores.

Chicken stir fry question, peanut butter?

I don't use oyster sauce, so not sure how it would taste with that, but otherwise, I think it sounds yummy! I like to add peanut butter and chilies to stir fries.

We decided against leftovers, and are going to a bar/restaurant where our son performs music every Tuesday night. We'll get something there.

Emergency food supplies: need suggestions for ono foods that keep well

Or go to an LDS site, they aren't "hardcore crazies" yet have plans for food storage.
I've also noticed that in our area, WalMart now has an aisle dedicated to foods that are packaged for this, as well as storage systems. They have a great selection of freeze-dried as well as just regular dried foods and mixes.

Here is a link to some images, the whole canned chickens seem to be not as dry as just the canned white meat.

Tipping FOH/BOH

One can tip whomever they like, they just can't demand how a tip pool should operate, or even if it can.

Lutefisk: yay or nay?

If you like it, how do you prepare it?
If you don't like it, did you ever eat it anyway?
Our family always serves it along side Swedish meatballs, so there is an alternate. We would always have to take just a bite growing up, but I think that was mostly just to see our expressions. Folks didn't mind us not eating it, left more for them.
I think it would be boiled or simmered, and sometimes baked. But always served with plain, boiled potatoes, never mashed. And with copious amounts of melted butter (not margarine), and sprinkled with dry mustard.
I admit to missing it, but not enough to make it.
I have fond memories of going to a small town's school for big lutefisk dinners, getting a number, waiting on the bleachers for our numbers to be called, then going through the serving line. People came from miles around.

Tipping FOH/BOH

and you seem to miss the point that in many places, a tip pool is illegal, and that BoH get an hourly wage that is at least minimum, if not more, while the FoH gets under $3/hr, and are taxed on not just the wage but their tips as well.
Maybe you could open a restaurant and show everybody how it is done.

What is your favourite thing to do with roasted vegetables?

Puree, spread on toasted bread. Kinda looks like cat$hit, but topped with a pico de gallo, yummy!

Salary is different from hourly, which is different than tips/commission. Just to clarify....

Please help me schedule these chickens!

If you season it well, then serve it cold. I did a search for "cold roast chicken" recipes and found several.
I would either do ahead and serve cold, or do the Zuni method if you want to do it the day of the party. I wouldn't reheat.

At first, I googled "nori rolls without rice," but didn't get as many. I clicked on one picture that called it a nori wrap, so that's what I searched, and that changed the results to be more in line with what you are wanting.

CHOW Reviews: The KitchenAid Classic Egg Slicer and other timeless gadgets

We don't use sliced eggs that much, I don't have one of these. But, that said, if one does find themselves wanting sliced eggs, mushrooms, soft cheese, it sure does the trick. I don't own one, but have used one elsewhere. They are cheap, and provide uniform slices.
I wouldn't give up my cherry pitter!

I just thought it was weird that you seemed so over the top with the "joke," and indeed there was not a communication problem.
That's all.
No, I don't always get "jokes," and sometimes read things quite literally.

"Now to make sure you don't have this communication problem in the future take your coffee cup, fill with coffee, let cool then walk up and throw it in her face and say "DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN {{insert chosen curse word here}}". That should take care of it going forward. lol"

????? It sounds like there was communication, it was worked out because they addressed it with each other. I don't see that there was a "problem," it worked out BECAUSE they communicated.

How does one get away with paying BoH people less than minimum wage?
"In those states the server minimum wage was actual minimum wage. The cooks were usually paid a bit less, but got tipped out"
Were they taxed, as well?
