Bibou Chef's Counter
Thanks for the info. Opentable was booked solid for the night, but when I called and specifically requested the tasting, Charlotte explained the seven courser and told me we would be at the bar. I didn't know it was also available to the entire room. Either way, sounds like a good way to experience the food and I am looking forward to it.
Bibou Chef's Counter
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone who has been to Bibou's Chef Counter can share any thoughts of the experience. I know it is 7 courses, but was wondering how long it takes/how special it actually is compared to the meal's the rest of the dining room recieves, and anything else worth noting. Thanks!!!
Have one night in Chicago. Need a casual spot with interesting food? Help!!!
Thanks for all the input. In regards to Publican, what is portion size like? I see their menu isn't exactly small plates, but not entrees really either. How many plates and how much should we expect to spend per person? You split this stuff ,right?

Thanks for the replies. Looking for a casual dinner spot. Really leaning on Publican now.
Have one night in Chicago. Need a casual spot with interesting food? Help!!!
Hi All,
I will be making a trip from Philly to the Midwest to visit my girlfriend's family over the holidays. We are headed to Chicago for a couple days to meet a friend and will have only one real day in the city. I will have to get some quick bites for lunch and will just grab whatever looks best and closest, but being a huge food lover, I am looking for a casual place ( will have been walking around all day, no time to head home to change from jeans) with great food that is signature Chicago. I have a reservation right now at Publican. It is a little out of the way for where we will be earlier, but I love Paul Kahan. So is Publican my best bet? Would love Avec, but was a little hesitant because of the no res policy. Going on a Tuesday Jan 3. I am leaning toward Publican, but also considering Avec, Girl and the Goat, and Purple Pig. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!!
Our meal at Le Grand Fooding: what did you get?
Came up from Philly for an all out food fest all weekend, capped off by the Massimo Bottura seating at Le Fooding on Sunday night. It was wonderful. Aside from the hot room and some warm champagne. Chef Bottura was engaging, fun, and the experience overall was unforgettable. The lamb, cod, and bitter dessert were great. He was really passionate about the whole event and that is so awesome to see comi from one of the 3 best chefs in the world. This needs to be a tradition.
Coming to NYC next weekend, student budget, big appetite.
Thinking about saving PDT for early Sunday before Le Fooding. Are the other cocktail bars easier to get into on a Sat night? Any other just cool and fun bars, lounges, etc to hit on Saturday night? Nothing too fancy. Maybe the spot atop Eately?
Also, any recs on a great, authentic NYC jewish deli that isn't too touristy?
And lastly, Ma Peche a good idea for lunch? Thanks!!

Being that we plan to be at Torrisi's for 5, eating at 6. Then probably back to the hotel and back out at night, is it even worth a shot to get into PDT at night? Wouldn't mind going around for a drink while we wait, but just wanted to see how hard it it to get in.
Also, San Gennaro is going on right now in Little Italy, correct? Will that affect our Torrisi plan?
Coming to NYC next weekend, student budget, big appetite.
Also looking for a drink at a bar or resto near Torrisi while we wait after our name is in. Heard of Antique Garage, any good? Anything else chill and casual down there?

Thanks so much. We love the Franklin here. Just looking for one cocktail centric spot and thanks for the list. I am sure I could find something on there. Any type of cuisine will be great for lunch for around 20-30 per person for food. Would also not be opposed to hitting Katz' or a food truck. Just something quick that will be memorable. Thanks again!!

Hi All,
My gf and I are coming up to NYC from Philly next weekend for the Le Fooding Pop Up and just wanted to run by a couple of ideas by you guys to maximize our time in Manhattan.
Will be getting into town early Saturday, staying at the Hotel Chandler. Will probably drop out stuff off at the hotel and walk around a little, and would love a super fast, good lunchy somewhere in the Empire State Building Area or thereabouts.
Saturday Night-Why not?. Going down to Torrisi around 5 to stand in line to try for the first seating. If that falls through, I have a backup reservation at Aldea.
Saturday Night Drinks-Want to get to one cocktail bar, was thinking about PDT because it is so unique as to what we have in Philly, then any other bar recommendations are welcome and appreciated.
Sunday Brunch- Meeting a friend at the Bridle Room.
Sunday Lunchish- Maybe another quick stop somewhere for something to hold us over until the 9 pm Le Fooding dinner
Sunday Evening-Meeting more friends for drinks somewhere in Midtown East- Any suggestions?
Sunday Night- Massimo Bottura Pop Up
Any help in filling in those blanks with budget in mind would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and I am really looking forward to our stay.

Best Pulled Pork BBQ Catered!
Hey Q Thunder. Sorry, I just saw this. Are you still looking for a pig?
Half off at M Restaurant
How much outside the gift cert. did you have to pay? I am saving mine for when they open their awesome courtyard.
Condensed Chicago Food Must Haves
I also was wondering if anyone could tell me anything they may be hearing about Next/Aviary. Any chance they are opened by March? I probably won't make it to Next, but would love to try Aviary.
Condensed Chicago Food Must Haves
Thanks so much for the info. I will most definitely look into Sable. I wasn't too hyped about Girl and the Goat, Publican, and Purple Pig. We have some places in Philly right now doing those kind of things and they aren't necessary, but the Purple Pig sounds like a good place for lunch.
Some other Chicago-related things I forgot to ask. I was looking into possibly getting into an underground dinner party. I was looking into Xmarx.
Also, for the birthday dinner. By any chance, are there any exceptional chef's tables around town? Not necessarily something fancy, but I know here at home we have some ambitious young chefs who set up cool chef's tables in their byo's, gardens, etc.
And this has nothing to do with food, but where could I find the best jazz in town?
Thanks!!
Condensed Chicago Food Must Haves
I will be headed to Chicago from Philly in March and will only have about 4 days of real food exploration on my trip. I wanted to fill my days and nights with real winners and uniquely Chicago food experiences. Here is what I have so far;
Day 1
Lunch- Probably will be getting in around this time, any recs of a quick bite? I am looking for a real Chicago dog place. Somewhere locals would go. I don't think I can make it out to Hot Dougs.
Dinner-Girl and the Goat, Purple Pig, or Publican?
Day 2
Lunch- I may be flying this one solo, so another street food/hole in the wall spot would be nice. Italian Beef?
Dinner- Celebrating a birthday and am looking for a quiet, comfortable, and memorable place. I am thinking North Pond. Any great places for drinks afterwards that would be nice to go to dressed up? Maybe Tru's dessert tasting? Or the Siganture Lounge? Not looking for something too crazy, just something memorable and special.
Day 3- (Alinea Day)
I already have my reservation for dinner at Alinea, so this day will obviously be centered around that. I am unsure about how much to eat before Alinea, I don't want to rush through because I was starving, also don't want to be full half way through.
Brunch/Lunch- Want to get to Hot Chocolate or Jam (or both) on my visit. Maybe this day
Dinner-Alinea-
Day 4
Lunch-I am going to need to get Chicago pizza on this trip. Wanted to head out to Burt's Place, but probably won't be able to make it. I have something later this night so a big lunch/early dinner would be ideal. Uno?
Misc.- Also would love recs for great cocktail bars/bars around the city. Will certainly be going to Violet Hour and Big Star one night. Anywhere else not to be missed?

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I am trying to do my homework and really make this trip delicious. This is over my spring break, so if I am going to be in the cold of a Chicago March instead of a beach, it is going to taste good!!
Thanks in advance

Wine to bring to Blackfish
Hi All,
I will be headed to Blackfish next week and was wondering if anyone could make an easy wine recommendation for dinner. Something between $10-20. Not looking for outrageous, but also don't want anything that will cover up the food. Thanks!
Heitz Bella Oaks Cabernet 2001
Thanks for your reply. I am bringing 4 bottles ( bubbles, white, red, dessert) and was just hung up on the red.
I was looking for a bottle of Cap de Barbaria 2005 Vi de la Terra de Formentera , but can't find it here in Philly. Does anyone know of anything comparable to that? I was looking for a red that wasn't a typical Cab or Noir. Something a little interesting.
Heitz Bella Oaks Cabernet 2001
I am looking for a red to bring to a dinner at a BYOB next week and this became available in PA. I love wine, but am just getting into it. Will a novice be able to taste the difference in age in this? Any other suggestions? It is a chef's tasting we are doing, so the wine would have to be paired with a couple courses of which I won't know until next week. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!
Help--Tonight! Need recs for dinner with group of teens near Cherry Hill Mall
That is the land of the chain. You literally can look out the door of the movie theater and find a dozen restaurants right on the street. The Cherry Hill Cheesecake Factory is big time. They have like 3 hour waits and people actually wait. A good Chow-worthy restaurant is rare over there, but hopefully someone who knows better will chime in with a rec. I would have said Onasis, but they closed. Located across the street from the Cheesecake Beast.
Amada during RW
Amada for RW is actually a great experience, imo. They offer alot of the great dishes from the menu. I'll be there Sunday.
Def. get the shortrib flatbread and I like the melon and serrano. They brulee the melon in a really cool twist. You will most likely be stuffed by the RW menu alone.
Which of Garces' restaurants would you choose?
I like Amada, but think Tinto has more interesting food. That being said, Distrito is my favorite Garces spot, but for a special occasion I would choose Tinto or Amada.
Xochitl, Las Bugambilias, Lolita--which do you prefer?
Distrito if it was a choice, but Xochitl out of what you listed. Lolita is good but much more mexican inspired than actually mexican
Unstellar Stella? Pizzareria Stella Revisted.
I agree. I think alot of the sog problem would be fixed if they let the pizza rest for even 2 minutes on a rack or something to let it dry out underneath. That's all condensation, esp. when paired with wet ingredients, it makes some pieces bad.
I can eat an entire sausage pizza. It's amazing. I am a fennel junky and thought that the finnochio could have used more of a fennel punch, but the olive flavors were nice and bright.
Is the pepperoni at Stella as good as the sausage? On tap for our next visit is the pepperoni and the pistachio.
Supper?
Supper is hurt by its location. It would probably be more acclaimed if it was a block off of South like Django was. That being said, I heard their new lunch is awesome and want to check it out.
Capogiro Passyunk location...closed on Mondays for the Fall/Winter?
They are closed for the season. Will be back in March. I guess the no food makes it hard to sell gelato and only gelato in the winter.
Noble restaurant, 20th and Sansom
Noble is on the top of my list of places to check out. I am sure that inside-outside counter should be awesome in the fall.
