Recommendations for Northern MI: Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Good Hart, etc.

I'm so glad you (all) pushed for Tapawingo. We had an outstanding evening that we wish we could have repeated. Still, we're grateful that we were able to enjoy the restaurant before it closed.

A quick Stay in Tucson, AZ- Two good Meals

Thanks for this report. I'm meeting a friend in Tucson for lunch next Friday and was just about to ask for recommendations. However, we will have two children with us. Do you think Cafe Milano would tolerate them?

Pie (Phx)

That's a shame. I'm on their e-mail list, but the last info I received was a bread pudding promo a little over a month ago. However, the site confirms the sad news. Hopefully, they will re-open.

Pie (Phx)

During the holidays, I've enjoyed delicious pies from Wicked Witch Bakery (sold year-round).

Looks like I have at least a few options here---thanks to all for the suggestions. (I'll do a mini/maxi bagel crawl and report back with results...)

Mini bagels in Chicagoland

Hi. I'm looking for recommendations for bagel bakeries that also make good mini bagels. I'm in the city (Loop), but do travel throughout the city/burbs. Thanks in advance.

Half pigs or quarter cows?

We are getting a quarter cow from Providence Farms (Michigan) this year. They also offer pigs, lambs and poultry. I can't offer a comprehensive report yet on the wholesale beef, but their "retail" offerings (sold at farmer's markets in the summer) were outstanding.

Recommendations for Northern MI: Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Good Hart, etc.

We're really enjoying our visit and the colors are outstanding. We're even getting some sunshine as I write. Coincidentally, my husband picked up carry-out from City Park Grill last night after searching for something open late. The biscuits (and the fish and the cobbler) were delicious. As we were able to get a babysitter, we are making the trek to Tapawingo tonight. Looking forward to it (and to trying some of the closer recommendations). Thanks again, everyone, for taking the time to reply.

Thanks for the info! We don't mind the chill as long as the trees hold some of their leaves...

Thanks for these additional recommendations. It seems like quite a hike to Ellsworth from Good Hart. Judging from the web sites, it must be worth it!

Thanks very much for the recommendations. It looks like we have plenty of options from which to choose. Are you in the area? Should we expect most of these places to be open this late in the season? Also, can we still expect good color?

What's worse, at least 4 employees that we asked (including the concierge and bellman) had no clue. I was surprised as well, especially because I had gotten such rave reviews about the restaurant. For this and other reasons, I think the hotel must have been "off their game" that weekend. Still, we had a wonderful time in the city and especially at Heartland!

I never replied because of the arrival of baby #2, but I wanted to belatedly thank everyone for your recommendations last year. We decided to eat at Heartland and loved every morsel (not to mention the service and atmosphere). I was a bit surprised that the hotel staff had not heard of the restaurant, but hopefully that has changed in a year. We also really enjoyed visiting the farmers' market and walking around St. Paul. I just wish we would have had more time to explore and indulge in the other suggestions! But, we look forward to our next visit!

Hi. My family and I are spending some time in Good Hart this week/weekend and would love your recommendations for dining in the area. We're renting a house and will do some cooking on our own, but will also eat out fairly often. Also, my husband and I are going to try to have a nice dinner (without kids) one evening --- any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Thanksgiving carryout in Phoenix/Scottsdale?

Hi there...I'll be visiting my mother in Scottsdale for Thanksgiving. We plan to make some dishes, but need recommendations for reputable spots to pick up a turkey, dressing and some other basics (good bread/rolls ... pies ... other sides). We don't have a huge crowd, but are seeking quality food! Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Apple Cider Donuts---say no more! Thanks for these recommendations---the Black Dog looks good for lunch.

Wow---I guess we should have stayed a few extra days (at least!). It's true that we will be fridge-less, but I'd still like to check out the Farmer's Market. I'd love to see the local bounty and snack along the way. I'm sure some things will keep over a few days! Also, the museum may be a good escape if starts to get too chilly. We'll have to play that by ear. Absolutely, next time, we'll have to visit some of the other sites---this will serve as a teaser for a future trip. Thanks for taking the time to reply!
