Pumkin Pie
Late response, but I just had a good pumpkin pie this year. It was from Baker's Best in Newton. http://www.bakersbestcatering.com/
A Post-Thanksgiving Review of Boston Area Pies
I do not cook, but I love good food. Here are my thoughts on a few Thanksgiving pies.
A++ to Petsi Pies for the Apple Pear Cranberry Pie. This pie had SOOO much flavor, sweet, tangy -- the variety of flavors in the filling compliment each other extremely well. It has a brown sugar walnut crumble top, but is not too sweet. There is lots of tartness in the filling. The crust is minimal and, because of the crumble, the pie would satisfy both pie lovers and apple cobbler lovers. http://www.petsipies.com/
A- to Baker's Best for its Pumpkin Pie. I usually find pumpkin pie very bland, but this one has taste! As pumpkin pies go, I am not sure it gets much better. It only gets an A- because I cannot bring myself to give any higher rating to a pumpkin pie. http://www.bakersbestcatering.com/about_us/about_us.html
B- to Baker's Best for its Apple Pie. The crust (and there's lots of it) is outstanding, but the filling has no taste. I would guess that they used entirely one kind of apple. My guess is that they were Red Delicious. The apples stayed firm but, as I said, had no taste. http://www.bakersbestcatering.com/about_us/about_us.html
C+ to Russo's for its Apple Pie. Neither the crust nor the filling was worth writing about. It looked pretty but did not have much taste. http://russos.com/

Where are the great sit-down breakfast (not brunch) spots in Cambridge!?
If you are going to a Watertown (but near Cambridge) diner, Uncommon Grounds is far superior to Delux, in my opinion. http://www.myuncommongrounds.com/

Best sushi in Boston?
I just returned from Maui, where I had FABULOUS sushi. Where is the best sushi in Boston?
Foodie, new to Boston
Best eating experience I have had was at No. 9 Park, over and over. Romantic or business or celebratory meal, it works. Excellent service, well-informed staff, fabulous food with variations, terrific cocktails and wine pairings, wonderful cheese board. I thought it would be pretentious, but it is not pretentious or stuffy. Very classy. (I find many "old New England favorites" to be stuffy.) Pricy, worth it.
gluten free wedding cake
I had a great gluten-free wedding cake -- flourless chocolate cake with mint frosting -- people still ask me about it. I got it at the Woodstock Inn in Woodstock, Vermont. You could call there and see if the chef might be able to recommend someone or something similar in NYC.
Power Breakfast Spot in Newton?
Baker's Best on Lincoln Street. Snooty but the food is good.
North End Dining-Suggestions?
I lived in the North End for a year, and Giacomo's on Hanover Street is my favorite, hands down. Get a special -- they are special! Bustling atmosphere, very Boston-Italian staff, great food. Two words to the wise: they don't take reservations, and they only accept payment in cash.

Moving to Boston, Recommendations!
Check out Orinoco, a great little Venezuelan restaurant in the South End! Very reasonably priced for the quality of the food. Great outdoor seating while the weather is nice. I particularly liked the Pabellon Crillo.

Birthday Dinner in Boston - October
Oleana is, in my opinion, one of the best restaurants in the Boston area. I discovered it shortly after it opened through a review conducted by the Wall Street Journal of best new restaurants in various cities. The restaurant serves creative Mediterranean cuisine that is light, fresh, and beautifully presented. If the weather is nice, you can eat outside under the arbor and feel as though you are in a European garden or something. The atmosphere inside and out is intimate, not at all stuffy, and the food is excellent.

What's the buzz on metropolis?
Excellent for brunch, can't speak to dinner.
Restaurant feels like a warm French bistro, with sleek booths, mirrors, and soft lighting. Have had brunch twice and both times was extremely pleased with the food and the service. The restaurant takes reservations for weekend brunch but is not outrageously priced -- that's a nice combination!
