Sycamore in Landsdowne?

Full agreement. We were there last night with a good-size group, for my niece's graduation. Service was excellent, and the food top-notch. Cumin-dusted lamb, cooked just right, was my meal; my wife enjoyed the seared scallops. Others liked the deboned & stuffed chicken (to the extent that I never got a bite). And yes, the cheese platter appy was quite wonderful, and fully described: triple-creme brie, manchego, an outstanding blue - and a chicken pate with pistachio crust that I *thoroughly* enjoyed. - and more -
The place is small, and a bit loud - but I think the 12 of us were contributing to the volume. And, if you don't know Lansdowne, you can drive right by looking for it - - twice. ;-)

DeTerra Wine Bar - all I can say is wow!

On our November visit, the wine list had several imported labels as well as a number of domestic.
The fries with my steak were wonderful!
The server was competent (but the reservation clerk could use some help).
Our wines were great, by the glass and served promptly.

Maybe time has been a benefit.

Some Good, some bad:
We went to Deterra's last night for our anniversary; Sunday night, and there was space a-plenty when we showed up early for the reservation. Service was good, not stifling but attentive. When the server did not recognize a request for the Beaujolais nouveau, which had been released that Thursday, he sent for the wine steward who apologized that he had not gotten any in yet. [Strike one - we had asked in advance] But, he came back a few minutes late with an offer of a complimentary sparkling rose in honor of the anniversary; it was rather pleasant. [Strike one forgiven]
The food was very good - my companion's bass was properly cooked and seasoned, and the sides were tasty veg. My NY strip was rare when I had requested medium rare; I tend to order that since a request for rare may sometimes come out raw. The server offered to have it cooked further, but I declined. Desserts were excellent - chocolate cake volcano had a warm center and good cake; poached pear was spicy and accompanied by bleu cheese - but it was a bit too chilled.

All in all, for dinner with two excellent glasses of wine at $125 + tip, in stunning surroundings, we were pleased. To get a better meal at the price, we'd have to travel far south - not worth it. We will surely return, for special occasions.

Ambler also has Trax, which serves wonderful food in a nice atmosphere. Two great dining destinations in one small town; what's not to like?

Does the type of restaurant influence your etiquette?

To some extent, the establishment sets the tone by which many people will gauge their behavior. If I am greeted in a respectful manner, by someone who looks at me and speaks clearly, understands and responds to my request (dinner for three) and places menus politely at each place - well, no elbows on the table here. I will expect clean flatware and prompt refills on the water.
But greet me with a wad of gum in your mouth, see only two of us and not hear that the third was parking the car, plunk two menus on the table and walk away - yep, I'm clutching tight to the only fork I expect to see this evening.

And don't let me get started on young couples with underage children who have NOT been taught table manners!

Glenside, PA

Thanks, Jazziellen, for that info. I'd wondered what would become of the location where Alfios used to be---that was one of the few diehard restaurants which would make -no, build - a Ceasar salad in traditional style right at your table - complete with coddled egg and real anchovies and good fresh garlic. Can you tell I miss them?

What is a good signature dish at the new incarnation (Nicky Fisher)? I plan to try them out this week.
