12 Hours in Boston!

Saturday is supposed to be very warm. If I were you I'd skip the duck tour and instead take a Boston Harbor Cruise, the 1-hour harbor tour is very nice, and I believe it's hourly. James Hook Lobsters for lobster rolls/crab rolls for a picnic on the Greenway. Also lots of food trucks on the greenway now for those who don't want a seafood lunch. North End is on the greenway as well.

Looking for cooked turkey for Christmas

Roche Brothers supermarket is offering roast whole turkeys. They do a very nice job of it.

Need recommendation

Hi!
I highly recommend the following, which are right on the same block as the Theatre Works. All 3 are really good, and have light bar menus as well as full dinners.

The Hyde

In Cleary Square is Annabelle's, which is also good:

Celebratory lunch on Friday --need ideas

We recently had a celebratory lunch at Eastern Standard - it was wonderful. Service was non-rushed, and the food was excellent. I also love those comfy booths they have inside. Also the HOtel Commonwealth will valet your car.

Old-fashioned chocolate/candy shop

Outside of Boston, there is Furlong's Candy on Route 1 in Norwood that is family run and has been there forever. Also Hilliard's Candy, has several locations.
Furlong's doesnt have a web site but if you google them you can get more info.

Looking for Medieval Private Dining in Boston

I have not been to the Castle but the fact that they are enthusiastic says to me that they are going to give you a great and memorable experience!! S&W has the decor and location, but I don't know if they will give you the same customer service/experience. Good luck -it sounds like so much fun!

Looking for a place for pizza and beer for 25 in Boston

La Hacienda might be fun. It looks divey but the food is really good and the prices are too. they have a function room that I"ve used with parties in the past. Everybody has a good time.

Seafood for 1 on a Monday night?

Seafood for one is a fantastic opportunity to sit at the bar at Neptune Oyster in the North End...LOTS of Chowhound posts/recommendations on Neptune. Also in the South End near your hotel is B&G Oyster; also very good, and has a good bar for a single person to have dinner at.

This guy has been at the Kendall Square Farmers Market. He makes homemade popsicles and they are really great!

is it worth it??

i got a half price $50 certificate for $25 for Scampo - lunch only. It was from the WROR weekly "Big Deal". It was awesome - I took a friend and we split the lobster pizza and salad, and the restauran couldn't have been nicer about it! I since have been taking advantage of more of these deals. I like Groupon.

Have you tried Sebastian's? There is one in Kendall MIT area, and a bunch in Boston. They make really good salads to order.

Lunch in the financial district ....as bad as the markets performance...

Just revisited Chacarero (Arch st. location) for the first time in a long time. got a small combo, extra hot sauce, extra green beans, and cut in half - it was as excellent as I remember them to always be. This is a HUGE sandwich. They were very nice about my special requests for the extras.

Would like some suggestions based on past experiences in Boston

The bar at the Blue Room in Kendall Square is excellent for solo dining. They also have small plates if you don't feel like a big meal. Their bartending is excellent also.

Townsends is an excellent suggestion. Also next to Townsends is The Hyde.

Event space in Brookline/Newton/W.Rox

Townsends in Hyde Park now has their "Fairmount Room". It's the upstairs of the restaurant, and is really inviting. I have not been to a function there but I've eaten down in the restaurant/bar and it is very good. They do beer/wine only though.

Weekday lunch place to stand in for Dante?

Across the river Scampo has a nice lunch. Beacon Hill Bistro is nice too.

Fall 2009 Openings and Closings

Yes the repo-men were at the Hyde Park one Thursday night moving kitchen/bar equipment into the box trucks. Busy day for them.

CF Donovan's in Hyde Park . . . finally?

Update....this place is officially dead. Last night a big truck was out front, and men were moving lots of stainless steel kitchen and bar equipment into the truck.

Decent Steak? Near MIT/Central?

I like the ideas of Franks or the Stockyard for classic 'steak dinner'.
