Hand Pulled Noodles

Hi Everyone,

Do you where in Toronto you can authentic hand pulled noodles? I know there used to be (?) one in Pacific Mall. But is there one nearer downtown?

Thanks!

Yummi's

I second on the chicken lentil soup. All I want is their soup and nothing else! Haha. It's super filling. I have had other dishes at Yummi's. They always come in the largest portions. The food there is alright. Nothing to really boost about but for myself, it's a good cheaper alternative than most restaurant around that area.

Help! Dinner bloor/charles area

I like the Coffee Mill Restaurant at 99 Yorkville Ave. The food is Hungarian, the prices are quite low and they make a fantastic apple strudel.

Dine.To [moved from Ontario board]

I use a combination of Chowhound, Urbanspoon and any other food source I can get my hands on. Usually it's here because everyone is relying on word of mouth too.

Ghali Kitchen Open!!

This is the one place that I regret not going in earlier when I heard about it. I was recommended as a first time customer (not for long) and visitor to the Ghali Kitchen the Rasta Pasta. Service was quick (my bus just arrived as George was finishing up cooking my meal) and I was out of the door. The taste was just incredible. Not too spicy (exactly what I asked for) and the pasta was still al dente. I wonder what I'll be ordering next as I wait for my bus. Probably the Burroti. That name makes me smile every time I say it out loud.

Radio episode with Chef Michael Smith

There's a great food radio episode with Chef Michael Smith.

Not everything can be heard but majority of the streaming audio is pretty interesting. Especially the discussion about the Food Network and how it changed the culinary world.

Any Stratford recommendations?

Hi everyone,

I'm going away for Thanksgiving weekend to my boyfriend's hometown of Mitchell, Ontario. But we'll be making a stop to Stratford. I've been to Feature's many times for breakfast but this time I want to go somewhere for lunch or even for dinner. My price range is towards around $ to $$ . And any food is fine with me.

Thank you in advance,
Margaret

Urbanspoon.com has arrived to Toronto!

There's a great article about urbanspoon.com in Torontoist this week. http://torontoist.com/2007/09/most_readers_ha.php . The basic idea of what the website is and I quote from the article, "Urbanspoon links to multiple reviews published elsewhere." That includes not only published reviews but also users blogs too.

I'm not trying to take anything away from this site, not at all. I think it will be great to have another source on top of the users experiences from chow.

Flight 55

I absolutely believe it's a skill and a challenge for any chef to handle a big party like that. To get food done all at the same time and out on the table hot and early is nearly but not impossible. But at the same time if you know you can't handle it, don't agree to hold a party of that size. Throughout the entire dinner I saw other parties with up to four people receive their food way before us. And they arrived a hour later! The wait staff never reassured us that dinner was arriving. They either filled our glasses with water or asked if we needed more drinks. Never something to nibble on while we waited for our main course. I knew it was a bad dinner experience when all I wanted was Massimo's pizza to fill up my stomach because I didn't get to eat much thanks to the small portions.

How's the Tulip for Sunday brunch?

Tulip is great. I've never been to Patrician. But if you're looking for all day breakfast (or even a steak) I would recommend this place. Fast and friendly service, warm plates and a good meal all around. You can even go to the beaches afterwards to walk off brunch.

Flight 55

I guess I'll answer my own post. I had a very bad meal at Flight 55. Yes, feeding a party of 14 and at the same time is very difficult but do I have to wait almost 2 hour for my main course? Once we finished ordering and started to put back our coats on (they decided to blast up the air-conditioning on a very cold Toronto night) we got started with some mini herb cornbread with what I assume to be jalapeno butter. Not only did we "not" get plates for the bread (having to use our napkins instead), we were desperately trying to find water for the bread was cold and rock solid hard.

I think the only good thing about this meal was the appetizers. I ordered an aged goat cheese souffle with a cranberry poached pear and port reduction. Very well done and very yummy. My boyfriend ordered a pulled pork spring roll with avocado salad and smoked jalapeno dipping sauce. He also loved it. And one of my friends ordered a bowl of lemongrass steamed mussels with roasted garlic aioli and crispy taro root chips. We all couldn't get enough of these appetizers. And if they were our main course, I would have been happy and satisfied. But then came the main.

I've noticed that majority of the main courses were very small in portions except the chicken. Some of them were alright. Some of them were just terrible. I ordered a pan seared halibut with creamed leeks, warm heritage potatoes and pancetta crisps. Please if anyone is thinking of going to this restaurant, don't order the fish. It was so overcooked and so bitter that I was trying to mooch food off of other people's plates. The sides that came with the dish were better tasting then the fish itself. My boyfriend ordered a grilled strip loin with black tiger shrimp, tropical sweet potato chips, cognac peppercorn sauce and fine herb butter. It sounds good but it wasn't. They overcooked his steak. Actually they overcooked a lot of people's dishes.

I personally don't recommend this restaurant. I shouldn't even call it a restaurant. It's a good martini lounge bar. It has somewhat good drinks and loud music. It's probably a good place before you go out clubbing. Order the appetizers, they're great. Main courses, you'll get ripped off. And you might have to wait for a long time if you're having a meal there.

Flight 55

Hi everyone,

I'm going to Flight 55 for the first time this weekend and I was wondering if anyone who has eaten there can recommend me something on the menu. I read the reviews online but I've noticed on their the website there's a new chef in place. That's why I'm coming to the board for their thoughts.

Thank you in advance,
