Beasty Burgers - Red Bank

Given the quality you described, and the size, which seems to be around what you'd get at a pup-type place, the price sounds fine, a good (great?) value.

I'll try to get there soon.

Fourteen ounces is the new pound

Would you rather what Mars Candy did a couple months ago? They very publicly announced that they were shrinking their candy bars - Snickers, Milky Way, etc. - because they were trying to improve the health of their customers. Of course they didn't shrink the price.

Uncle Petey's Weenies and 2 others.......

Are you talking about the dogs, or Max?

how do you handle this??? [Moved from New Jersey]

You could start by revealing the establishment and letting them rebut your account. The fact that it was cash only should have been your first clue. (Although there are some very reputable places that are cash only.)

Driving from Nyc to Pittsburgh

In Shartlesville, about midway between Allentown and Harrisburg, you can try the Shartlesville Inn. It's PA Dutch food, served family style. Not gourmet by any means, but decent. And if you have an hour to kill, stop in at Roadside America a half mile up the road. Pure tourist trap, but fun, even for the adults.

(Oops, I see I'm too late. Well, try it the next time.)

Ducky Life Tea

You're correct, they are a local operation. That could be a plus or a minus. I'm wondering if their product is as good as it sounds, since their size might prevent them from getting top notch products. On the other hand, they've been around for a few years, even in this economy, so they must be doing something right.

Ducky Life Tea

Anyone have experience with this company? They're located in Monmouth County. I met the owner at a Farmers Market. She seems to know her stuff, and one sample I tried was ok, but hard to tell for sure as it was cool. I'd like to find a decent local purveyor rather than rely on mail order.

Really good lunch around Eatontown

Glad we could help.

Beasty Burgers - Red Bank

How big are they? At those prices, the large ought to be over a half pound, and the smaller at least a quarter pound. And even then it's a little steep, no matter how good it is.

And they ought to knock off at least a couple bucks for the horrible double butchering of their supposed difference: Au's Juice Sauce (sic). (Unless the sous chef who prepares it is named Au.)

Well, at least it's not an Italian joint.

Outside Dining near Brookdale Community College

I neglected to list MJ's as I did not know its status. In the last few years it has undergone many changes. I haven't been there since it became MJ's, but I would agree that it is a very nice location for dining on the deck.

Probably Buona Sera, around the corner from the Basie.

There are plenty of places in Long Branch, and some in Sea Bright, that would probably fit your needs. Not that the food would be great, but that doesn't seem to be a criterion.

There might also be places along the Bay (Keyport, Port Monmouth, AH, Highlands) but I don't know which would have outdoor seating.

My favorite would be Moby's, but I doubt you'll be dressed for that. :)

Really good lunch around Eatontown

At least some are doing fine. When I stopped into Eastern Empire in Lincroft, I asked the manager/owner(?) about his other about his other stores, and he told me they're doing fine, as busy as ever.

Red Bank Flavour Festival ~ May 6th?

Get there early enough to visit the Farmer's Market at the Galleria. It's the first one of the season, so there might not be as much there as later, but it's always worth at least a walk through.

Really good lunch around Eatontown

Since Tapas is directionally challenged :), let me suggest Far East Taste in Eatontown, or Kanji in Tinton Falls/Shrewsbury. Kanji would be my choice, best sushi on Monmouth County, but FET gives a more pan-Asian selection.

Is there anything better than Boars Head cold cuts?

Thumanns is good, but overall I much prefer Boar's Head. Their EverRoast Chicken is outstanding.

As for mass produced pastrami, I've never had any that I considered good. If it's store made, you at least have a chance.

stove settings

These tips depend on the cook top. Ours is the smooth electric kind. The heat does not drop off very quickly, so a "slow" boil might be hard to maintain that way if we start on high. What we will often do is use two burners, one on high to start it, and another on medium or so, started around the same time, to maintain it.

King's Hawaiian Sweet Bread, anything special?

We used to get the sandwich size rolls all the time, but I haven't seen them for years. We do occasionally pick up the dinner rolls, but sometimes they don't last till dinner. :)

They do make great slider buns.

Beverage Calories

Rather than just spouting phrases, try doing some research. There are plenty of legitimate sites that give actual facts. There are a lot of measurements that are surprising if you don't truly understand what happens. I have not written anything that I cannot back up with actual research results and published laboratory measurements, and not pseudo-science.

Beverage Calories

Surprisingly, no. 8 oz of fresh squeezed has about 126 mg. A typical orange has around 70. I don't know why it's that way.

Relish stated there were a lot more nutrients despite the calories, which she mistakenly said was not a sugar bomb. She was wrong.

Beverage Calories

With 6 oranges you get about the same calcium and protein, less than half the fiber, and five times the sugar, carbs and calories of one orange. The only nutrient you improve on is potassium, since squeezed and whole have the same amount.

But it only takes about 3 oranges to make one cup (for the numbers quoted in my source).

Bottom like is if you want to juice a ton of oranges, go ahead. But don't claim it is a nutrient boost. Unless you are severely K-deficient, in which case broccoli or bananas are better, the whole fruit is better.

Beverage Calories

If you are not including the pulp, then yes, that is what I'm saying.

Beverage Calories

100 calories in 8 oz. not a sugar bomb? Consider that coke has about 90 calories per 8 oz. (I just checked a bottle). Sure you are getting some nutrients, but not as much as you think. You get far more by eating the fruit, including necessary fiber.

Koo Marlboro NJ

No, because it's not true. There are plenty talked about on this board that are excellent.

Koo Marlboro NJ

One of the owners worked at Ft. Monmouth. It's likely she went to MD when it closed. That might be one reason for the change.

New England Hot Dog Company

To get back on topic, there's a Muscle Maker across the street from the Middletown NEHDC.

Sienna Grill, Red Bank (formerly Two If By Sea)

San Remo was going to move into the old Little Kraut space several months ago, but never did. (Don't know why.) Maybe they'll take over here.

Sushi Palace in Middletown

Haven't eaten there, but picked up a menu by the door. It looks much like the previous place, including the buffet.

Pink Slime (UGH!) - What are the safe brands?

And traditionally, bagels are boiled in lye.

Coke vs Pepsi Challenge! Who wants to try?

Meathead easily identified Coke, Pepsi, and RC Cola, thoroughly confounding Archie. :)

(That's Bunker for you young'uns.)
