With France's history in SE Asia it's not surprising that the food would be found there.

East Village near Webster Hall: Inexpensive place to go before show with 16 teenagers on a Saturday night

You can eat pretty well for under $10 at This Little Piggy and it's just a few blocks from Webster Hall. The only problem is that you won't be able to fit your whole party in there.

Best place to buy beer in bulk in Manhattan

A case of beer is a case of beer. Unless you want to buy a keg you can get cases just about anywhere and prices won't vary by much either.

Katz's sandwiches have definitely gotten smaller?

I've lived 10 blocks away for the last decade. I've been going to Katz's for much longer. You could tip before or you could tip after they hand you the sandwich. It's the same size. I've done it both ways.

The meat has never been weighed.

Katz's sandwiches have definitely gotten smaller?

"The sandwiches at the counter, where a $1 or $2 tip would get you 50%"

This is just a myth. The tip does not affect the size of the sandwich. It might have 20 years ago, maybe, but this hasn't been the case since the mid 90's since I've been going. Those cutters are on auto-pilot, especially on the weekends.

So all your food came out cold? You didn't mention it in your original post.

Upselling in restaurants

"This server went way beyond what any manager would be asking of their employees."

You know this how?

"Keep in mind the food was slow coming to the table."

Do you think the server was keeping the food at the pass or maybe, just maybe, this is the kitchen's fault.

Upselling in restaurants

"I live in NYC....if it was me...lucky if the server got $1.00"

A dollar is stiffing. If you have a problem with the upselling take it up with management. It's the the server's fault if they are just doing what management instructed them to di.

Stiffing a waitress because she was doing her job is tacky and uncalled for.

Rejoice New Yorkers ... your sugary drinks are safe! (for now)

Nobody is stopping you from drinking as much soda as your desire. Order another 10 16 oz sodas in a restaurant. Go to the supermarket and but 50 bottles of soda and drink them all in one night. Who's stopping you? Not "gov't".

Tipping on takeout?

I have a number of friends that work in retail and make huge commissions. They make a decent base salary but once the hit sales goals, $250k for example the commission percentage increases. They often clear over $100k a year.

Is it still true that one should be wary of sushi/seafood on Mondays?

It's dated. Even Bourdain admits that is dated.

Monday Eve Hurricane Sandy OPEN RESTAURANTS List:

Restaurant staff don't get paid if they don't work. If an employer pays for a cab or car service to and from work I'm sure they can get plenty of people to show up voluntarily.
