My two day itinerary in FW - comments appreciated!

Fuzzy's is "good" but not what I would call destination good, another "taco" place near Amon Carter is Revolver, which is very good, but may be on the higher end of what you're looking for.

As far as the Aboretum goes, you can take a picnic in and eat there or I'd suggest looking at Good 2 Go Taco on Garland Road, cajun at Aligator Cafe, or Barbec's. All are very good.

I'd recommend looking at Woodshed possibly over Cattleman's, although it's not in the stockyards.

Best place to buy grills?

I have 2 BGE's and I never see myself returning to gas again. By far the easiest, most functional grill I have ever cooked on. I have cooked on gas and coals for years, in fact I still have a 20' trailered smoker I use for tailgating, but I have never once regretted buying the egg. I have cooked everything from paella, to pizza, brisket, steaks, chicken, chops, bread, on the egg.

Where can I purchase a cast iron comal in/around Dallas?

I have never seen a comal like the one pictured in any of the high end shops in town. I use lodge cast iron griddle that's very similar to the one you have pictured. You can find a variety of lodge at Academy & Acemart.

My best guess for a comal would be some of the latin markets on harry hines.

Best fine dining restaurant for lunch?

Recently went to craft for lunch, it was most definitely a limited menu and I was not thoroughly impressed.

Best po-boy?

Aligator Cafe in Dallas or Big Easy in Plano have the best Po'Boys around, in my opinion.

Amarillo report

There are some good local coffee shops in Amarillo. One local place, Roasters, has a few locations around town now.

Donut Stop is in fact a local operation that controls the donut market in town for the most part. Pretty solid.

And about a block NE of the Catfish Shack is a place called Scott's Oyster Bar which I generally prefer over the Catfish Shack.

Where to buy Sushi grade fish in DFW?

Check out Seabose in Carrollton. There are several discussions on this board about the place.

Nevermind, Al Gore's interweb tells me that Seabose is closed.

[DAL] Eatzi's on Lovers Lane

That was going to be my question, what was the difference between City Market and Eatzi's? I only went by CIty Market's "to go" store twice and thought it was good, but pricey. Is Eatzi's that much more economical? And are they going to get a better rental rate?

Help me order FCB for three (Plano)

To answer your question, yes the wonton soup can be shared. However, I've had better wonton soups. It's okay, but not mind blowing.

Dallas lunch near Stoneleigh

The closest TexMex that's recommended is probably Mattitos. A short cab ride will get you to Avila's.

The Stoneleigh P is directly across the street, good burgers. Don't ask for ketchup.

House of Blues (Dallas)

We did the gospel brunch for Easter last year and while it was different, we felt a little rushed and thought the food was not as good as what we expected. The show itself was also a let down since the full choir was not performing. We have not been back. I'll give them a pass since it was Easter and they were serving 3 times in stead of their standard 2.

Early dinner with older parent near Westin Park Central

I know it's too late, but I imagine that the Woodlands at Forest and Preston would fit your requirements perfectly.

The only one that I would add to the list above, is the English Field House, 10610 American Dr.

Where is a good independent meat market in Dallas?

I second the recommendation of Rudophs. I would also add Koster's to the list, they are located in the Farmer's Market near the mexican food restaurant just north of the sheds.

There were 4 or 5 "meat" vendors at the market last weekend as well.

[Dallas] Restaurant Week Reviews

Fuse lost their chef and closed their sister property. Now may not be the best time to try that place, esp during restaurant week.

We've go Abacus and Central 214 reservations. We may cancel the 214 due to scheduling conflicts.

ABC reveals secrets of Iron chef America (potential spoilers)

I went to a class taught by Kent Rathburn who competed on Iron Chef with his brother Kevin. Kent told us about the 3 ingredients and said they spent about 2~3 weeks working each one. I can only recall two of the 3, one was Elk and I think the other was peaches. What a broad spectrum. They won Battle Elk against Bobby Flay.

Kevin and Kent were assisted by Tre Wilcox from Top Chef fame and former employee of Kent.

Looking for Sushi, Tapas,& Brunch in Dallas

The best sushi near the ballpark is Piranha on Green Oaks at Collins. You could easily sit down for dinner at 5 and make a 7 game.

House of Blues - Gospel Brunch?

I agree with the pegasus article. The food was good, but not great, the show was short and not what I expected, I wanted a full gospel choir I guess.

Would I go back? Sure. But I believe there are better brunch options in town.

Big Texan 72oz Steak

The steak is 72 ounces before it's cooked.
No bone.

To qualify for the free meal, you have to eat the shrimp cocktail, salad, baked potato and the steak.

It takes about an hour or so to cook. Once you order it, they will move you to the stage and the clock starts when the cocktail hits your table. They do not start bringing food until the steak is nearly done.

Total cost $80 or so if you don't finish.

Abacus is closed now for 3 weeks and is undergoing a "major renovation" and plans to open in late april. I'm wondering if there will be a new Chef de Cuisine announced at that time.
