Would like your opinion on what coffee supplies to provide for a nicer end vacation rental

Agree! I hate when hotel rooms have a coffee maker but no kettle. Yuck.

Not rare at all. Bed Bath and Beyond and Amazon also have a selection of kettles.

As a tea lover, an electric kettle would be great. I travel with my own tea but a kettle beats the heck out of heating water on the stove.

Would You Name Your Kid Nutella?

Maybe. I have no idea. My point is, that saying "nobody with half a brain coughs up their social security number before they've even submitted their resume" isn't true.

Would You Name Your Kid Nutella?

I work in law enforcement and that's not the case with us at all. We require all sorts of info, including full name, social, etc, before we even invite you to the first screening process.

It just depends on the industry you're in.

That's pretty much what I recall about it. If I want a fast, cheap burger, I'll hit Five Guys but that's a rare thing.

Have you been recently? I haven't been to one in 20 years and I was surprised when the one in Ashburn popped up. I didn't know they were still a thing. But yeah, my recollection is that they were on par with Cheeburger Cheeburger.

Is it okay to bring Kimchi to work/school yet?

I wouldn't mind.

Brunch near Kennedy Center

Ris does a brunch. I haven't had brunch there but I've been to dinner and really enjoyed it. The Kennedy Center runs a shuttle to the Foggy Bottom metro nearby which may be of help to you.

Too much hassle to bother with foods

Basically all baking. My husband eats pretty gluten free so I can't see the point of making a cake for myself. I'll occasionally do a tray of brownies and take them to the rescue squad on days I volunteer but it's not a regular thing at all.

There's one in Ashburn.

What are your favorite kitchen device for making dinner?

The only thing I really use other than a stove is my rice cooker.

New tip for easy roasted garlics

But do you keep them whole? I pedalfaster mentioned, I always use roasted garlic in ways that mean squishing it or mixing it into something or spreading it.

Cool, thanks. I haven't been to a Fuddruckers since I was a kid. I might make a trip out to one one of these days.

How do you put together a menu plan, if you do?

I took a one night class on Indian food and it was really enlightening. There's only so much I can get out of a book, you know? The community centers in my area also do cooking classes so that might be a place to start.

Also, consider checking out library cookbooks from veg heavy cuisines- Indian and Mexican come to mind.

Good luck!

How do you put together a menu plan, if you do?

I usually grocery shop for the week on Sundays. DH and I come up with a list of dinners- some old favorites, some new recipes- and I make a list. That's pretty much it.

As for cooking without eating, take a cooking class.

Salt box safe?

My husband prefers to use it. I don't really bother with it. We have a cool metal moose holder that holds a salt shaker and a pepper shaker that I suspect drives this preference :)

Salt box safe?

I've got a salt shaker with regular salt, kosher goes in the pig, and I've got Maldon for finishing.

Salt box safe?

I don't empty and reload either...or even clean mine. But I also don't stick my dirty, contaminated fingers into the salt.

How to eat healthy as a picky adult

Get a stack of beginner's cookbooks and healthy cookbooks at the library and go to town. Subscribe to magazines with recipes inside- they're usually pretty basic. Food Network Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, and Good Housekeeping all have fun, simple, *sometimes* healthy recipes. Some have the calorie info included.

Teavana: Shall we Shatter the widely held but false belief

You don't have to buy the machine. I've never heard of it til now and no one has ever tried to sell it to me. I'm surprised it's been pushed so hard on you.

New tip for easy roasted garlics

What do you do with the whole cloves? I ordered garlic fries at a restaurant once and got very tasty fries with 4 or 5 whole roasted cloves on top. It was very strange. I ended up cutting them up and eating them a little at a time.

That's pretty similar to how I roast whole bulbs. Just cut off the root end and expose all the cloves at once. I've never bothered to cook each clove separately. They squish out nicely after roasting. I love the smell of roasting garlic!

Nothing? Shocker...

What is the best way to invite guests online to casual gatherings at your home? Evite, Facebook, or some other way?

What on earth is that?! Sounds terrifying...and unicorn related.

Teavana: Shall we Shatter the widely held but false belief

I'm not sure what machine you're talking about. I use a $10 electric kettle.

I'm an hour and a half from the nearest Chinatown (without traffic), so that's not happening. The Asian grocer closest to me (45 minutes, by the way) just sells bagged tea.

I like Teavana. It's overpriced but so what? You don't have to shop there if you don't want. Calling it a fraud is silly.

They are customizable to an extent. You can choose a background picture and fonts, etc. Personally, I read my email on my phone (don't own a computer) so I hate music and animation so I never do that on Evite or similar. One's not better than the other- they're just different tools to do the same job. Hell, I've been known to invite people via actual postcard. In the mail. It's chaos.

Yeah I do Evite unless everybody I want to invite is on Facebook. Otherwise, it looks like a weirdly small party. But there are people who won't RSVP either way. Ugh.

Why does it seem half assed? You put the place, time, details, guest list, etc on the event...exactly like Evite.
