Where can I find turkey when it's not Christmas or Thanksgiving?

I saw a turkey breast at Wegman's recently.

Calling a (not young) woman "Young Lady"

Sigh. It's not an honorific.

Calling a (not young) woman "Young Lady"

And I'm sad that you persist in acting as though you cannot possibly understand what we women here are telling you. Many of us are bothered by being called "young lady". It's very simple. I suspect you *do* comprehend what we're saying but are amusing yourself by acting befuddled and shocked. Have a nice night.

Calling a (not young) woman "Young Lady"

Spot on.

Calling a (not young) woman "Young Lady"

Why are men often so insistent on calling women "young lady"? Many of us dislike it and many women here have explained quite eloquently why it's offensive. Why insist on calling people something that's likely to annoy them?

Best Crab Cakes in Northern VA?

My favorite crab cakes are at Blue Ridge Grill. They have 2 locations, both in Loudoun County. Lots of big crab hunks, very little filler. Delicious!

Gift basket from America?

Oh, gotcha. It's actually pretty common. Either cruiser or police car. I've only heard squad car on TV and have never heard patrol car.

Gift basket from America?

Does police mean different things in the UK and U.S.?

You've gotten quite the reputation today!

Wet nap suggestion?

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't wipe my face and hands with Clorox.... I wonder if wet wipes come in this sort of dispenser though?

Those people at Starbucks who tie up the milk counter fine tuning their drink

I just say "excuse me" in a loud voice and then stand uncomfortably close while reaching across them to get what I need. Works like a charm!

Asking guests to leave, for incoming reservations

Er, hoping to use a table for multiple seatings is hardly insane policy...

Asking guests to leave, for incoming reservations

Why on earth not? I recently went to one of my favorite spots at 6pm on the dot and was told they had a 7pm reservation so we wouldn't be able to linger. It sounds like you feel that I should be able to stay as long as I want but I don't agree. I'd rather be told upfront so that I can make a choice then. Dinner was fantastic, by the way.

Vanilla Extract for Holiday Gifts

The Container Store has a neat variety of, well, containers. They seem to have a better selection of kitchen containers in store rather than online, oddly enough but it might be worth a peek.

Does Your Lemonade Need Activated Charcoal?

Oof yeah- if I never have to experience an NG tube, I'll be very happy.

No kids allowed?

Oh, my parents taught me good manners. No need to be sent off to some school for it.

Must-try foods in South Florida?

I don't doubt it in this day and age of flying pineapples in from across the country. I wasn't a huge fan of stone crabs, personally but a Joe's Stone Crab opened in DC a year or so ago so it seems like they're pretty popular.

Must-try foods in South Florida?

Oh I don't like them. I went to Joe's Stone Crab in Miami since stone crabs seemed like such a big deal but they seemed lackluster to me. I'm from northern VA- stone crabs didn't measure up to my Maryland crabs.

Is Gatorade an acceptable generic name for sports drinks?

Yep, true for me as well. A Coke is a Coke, not a root beer or orange soda or whatever.

Is Gatorade an acceptable generic name for sports drinks?

I'd just offer a sports drink. If you offered me a Gatorade and handed me a Vatorade, I'd find it a bit weird. I'd just say "can I get you a drink? I have soda, sports drinks, and iced tea."

Does Your Lemonade Need Activated Charcoal?

There are a couple reasons. It's easier to get someone who may be altered to sip a drink through a straw than to get them to swallow pills. Also, the capsule has to dissolve before the AC can get to work. In my jurisdiction, we only use AC for poisonings or overdoses so we need it to work as quickly as possible.

Most patients don't complain about the taste, oddly enough. Sorbitol is added to make it a bit sweet and its administered in an opaque container with an opaque straw. I tried some in EMT school and it wasn't terrible. A bit gritty but not awful.

Vomiting up black stuff may not be the highlight of someone's day but it beats dying. We just dodge that vomit because it's a bitch to wash out of a uniform and I might have another 10 hours left on my shift :)

Does Your Lemonade Need Activated Charcoal?

Yep, I'm an EMT and we give activated charcoal for certain poisonings. Then we hang out behind the patient and hope we get to the ER reallllly quick!

Do you pray before a meal?

Well yeah. I recall discussing every prayer we learned and used at mass line by line. They're fairly straightforward, even for a kid.

Do you pray before a meal?

I offer a prayer before meals but not out loud since my husband is a different religion than me. We view each other's religion with a small sprinkling of suspicion :)

Why everyone should stop calling immigrant food ‘ethnic’

Perhaps it is regional. When posters ask about ethnic food on the DC board, I'm just as likely to recommend Zaytinya, Jaleo, and Rasika as I would Nando's or somewhere low end. More often, really. I prefer to spend money on great food and, in the DC area, that costs money. To me, ethnic isn't synonymous with cheap.

What is your perfect breakfast?

Poached egg on fried potatoes, couple slices of cheese, and hot tea.

Need help with my new Zojirushi rice cooker

I've both rinsed and not rinsed and can tell a difference but don't really care.

Resturants near Falling Water and the Laurel Highlands area 2015

I thought Falling Water had a pretty decent little cafe. Make sure to stop at Kentuck Knob- they also have a nice little snack bar area.

5 Guys vs. In & Out... Time for a simple vote

I wish I had the choice! No In & Out near me. I had it once in LA and it was pretty tasty.
