Searching for casual spots in Maui

Hey everybody,

I'm going to Maui with my family for New Years. I've done some research on places to eat and most of the recommended spots that I've come across are fancy restaurants usually located inside some kind of resort....

What are the top casual spots to eat in Maui? I'm looking for beach shacks with good inexpensive seafood, where you can go with your swimsuit and flip flops. Like the stuff you see in Thailand and Mexico.

Thanks!

Where can I find Ajvar in Brooklyn?

Hi, anybody know where I can buy a jar of Ajvar (the serbian-croat red pepper relish) in Brooklyn?

Thanks!

Real Sichuan food in Bay Ridge

I recently tried this place and left unimpressed. I'm amazed by the power blogs and the Internet in general have to hype up restaurants. Dan dan noodles were alright, and the cucumber with garlic was tasty....but definitely not worth the hike to Bay Ridge. I think Flushing is where it's at......

Where can I buy Currywurst sauce in NYC?

In the city only the ones you mentioned, the stand at Grand Central and Shaller and Weber. Blue Apron Foods in Brooklyn sells some German products, like mustard etc....But otherwise, you would have to go upstate....I think there was a review of a couple of those stores on Serious Eats recently.

Where can I buy Currywurst sauce in NYC?

Thanks! Some of the recipes online suggest canned tomato sauce...might try that instead of Heinz.

Germany/Austria/Switzerland Board

Wanted to propose adding this 3 countries as a new board in the international section. I think it would get a lot of activity....

Where can I buy Currywurst sauce in NYC?

Hi, I know of a couple of places that serve currywurst, but I've been wanting to make my own .....Where can I find a bottle of this stuff? Traditional German stores in the city don't seem to have it.....

der schwartze kolner

Yes it's open! Serving bratwurst and beer and stuff like that.....

Which Are Some of the Greatest German Cuisine Restaurants in Germany?

I had a nice meal at this place.....Although the food might be french influenced it tasted very german!

Caracas, Venezuela

Hey....!

I'm actually from Caracas, although I moved in 1995.....I still go there from time to time.

As Peter said, try the areperas, most of the areperas around Las Mercedes are pretty good. For a good parrillada restaurant El Aranjuez and for pizza and italian La Montanara, both in Las Mercedes as well......There's a french bistro in Paseo Las Mercedes that's pretty good, close to Trasnocho Cinema and don't miss out Aprile, an italian spot on a pretty cool 1950s modernist house.

Best Spanish in NYC

I would definitely recommend Boqueria, Socarrat or Tia Pol in Manhattan. Those three are the closest you are gonna get to spanish cuisine in this city....but beware, they tend to get packed.

Calvi and La Balagne, Corsica....recs

Thanks. Yes I speak French...I'll look for the guide in Corsica.

Calvi and La Balagne, Corsica....recs

Thanks Therese.

I did search for Corsica, but most of the recommendations are in other areas of the island....Bastia and Porto Vecchio and such. I'm looking for restaurants in the Balagne region, since we won't have a car.......

Calvi and La Balagne, Corsica....recs

Hi, we will be in Corsica for a couple of days and wanted to try some good Corsican eats....anyone know of any places near Calvi?

Pimientos de Padron

DespaƱa in Nolita sells them....they are like six bucks a pack.....

Where can I find German or Austrian Muesli?

Hi,

I am looking for something similar to what you get in Europe....straight grains without tons of sugar and apple or stuff like that.....

I've tried some of the health food stores, but most of the muesli is packed with dry fruit and is overly sweet....Any ideas where I can find imported Muesli? Thanks!

New York Film Festival Eats

I just found out the movie is playing at the Ziegfield Theater......so any good recs for that area, Hell's Kitchen?

thanks again!

New York Film Festival Eats

Hmmm.....not more than 25 bucks. I'll check out Bar Boulud....

New York Film Festival Eats

Hey

Going to the NYFF tomorrow night, wondering where could I get a good meal (and not too pricey) close to Lincoln Center before showtime.....

Thanks.

Best Mexican Place in Park Slope?

Well, Barrio def classifies as fussy and chic. if your idea of mexican food includes $10 margaritas, then Barrio is your place.....

Best Mexican Place in Park Slope?

Tacos Nuevo Mexico on 5th Avenue is the only kinda authentic Mexican place in the hood,,,,I've had so-so tacos at La Taqueria, but most people seem to like it, so it might be your thing. Avoid at all means places like Mezcal and other spring break themed tex mex joints in the area. Chavella's over in Crown Heights is pretty decent too.

Why Al Di La and not Locanda Vini e Oili???

I went to both restaurants back to back. I have to say that Al DI La's food is superior but Locanda is a prettier place.

At Locanda I had the crostini (bland, taste of stale bread) the fig salad (3 very small fichi, some greens and celery? not a good mix) and the black pepper and "porcini" pasta. The pasta was all pepper, no porcini. The owner is an ass too.

Park Slope faves

Wow this post is almost 10 years old. I live in the PS/Prospect Heights border and I have a booming restaurant row on 5th Avenue. I would say the best are still Al DI La, Applewood and Franny's. And of course the Caribbean trio of Christie's, Sugacane and Little Miss Muffin'. Great Patties!

Dinner w/ parents In Park Slope/Prospect Heights Area

Do I need to do reservations if I am going to Osteria?

Dinner w/ parents In Park Slope/Prospect Heights Area

Thanks everybody, I think I'll try Franny's since it's pretty close to my place, if it's impossible I'll go to Applewood.......

Old, traditional bakeries/pastry shops that still exist

There is an old jewish bakery on 2nd Avenue and 7th Street. It's called Moishe's.

Dinner w/ parents In Park Slope/Prospect Heights Area

I wanted to take my parents out in the 'hood this Friday, but I know that probably my two picks (Franny's or Al Di La) will be packed. What other good options are there. Is Flatbush Farm any good? Applewood?

Lombardi's- big disappointment...

Best Pizza in the East Vilage is Luzzo's, on 1 ave and 13th Street. I can't believe people mentioned Stromboli and other pedestrian "pizza".

"Rare" ethnic restaurants?

Colombian arepas and Venezuelan arepas are totally different and claiming that they originated in one specific country is absurd. It's a regional staple that varies from place to place......like falafel or sausages.....

Bacaro

Thanks delish, I will!
