Fort Point's Profile

Owl Station Bar "Japanese Bistro"- Southie

Went there for lunch today and was very pleased. The lunch specials run $8.95 and we tried the Sushi Lunch (4 sushi and 6 pieces of tuna roll) and the Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box. Both come with miso soup. All the food was very fresh and very good. As noted before not necessarily a destination place but definitely worth trying if in the area.

January 2012 Openings and Closings

Drove by Moko Japenese in Southie on East Broadway today and it looked like it was ready to open if it has not already. Any info?

Lunch in the seaport district

The range noted was actually $8 -$14; a few items from their lunch menu that fall into that range would be Chicken Parm with Pasta, Veal and Wild Mushroom Meatballs with Pasta and Caesar Salad with Chicken. Each of which is around $13.

Lunch in the seaport district

Agree with you about the views, but in three tries at lunch I have not had an item I would go back for. Also, there is Strega located in the office building nest to Sam's; food is much better.

Looking for Saturday Lunch Restaurant in Westerly, RI

Suggest you check out the Shelter Harbor Inn. It's not in the center of the city but seems to meet your other requirements.

Asian grocery or supermarkets in Boston area?

There is a good sized C Mart at 109 Lincoln St. near South Station. In addition there are many markets in Chinatown which is a short walk from Fort Point. Chinatown is not that big a exploratory walk around it will help you find what you are looking for.

ISO Fresh or Frozen Pasta

Agree with you about Capones. Bought some tortellini recently at Verrill farm and the pasta was too thick and there was almost no filling. In fact you could not taste the filling at all. Would not buy it again.

Boston Herald

Since the restaurant reviewer took a buyout package there have been no reviews on the standard Fridays. Any indication the paper will start doing them again?

Amrheins

Agree with 'meh' on the food and the last time I was there (about two months ago) they charged $12.50 for a Kettle One martini. Not a neighborhood spot anymore.

Looking for Seaport area restaurant for Sat night without reservations

Across the street from the old Jimmy's spot is Salvatore and closer to the courthouse is Strega Waterfront and Sam's.

Franklin Southie Brunch

Had a different experience a week ago. Skillet eggs (served in skillet) had excellent home fries, very good bacon and nicely prepared scrambled eggs. Also a steak tartar dish was very nicely prepared. Have not had the oysters there and it certainly sounds like they have a problem with fried dishes.

Petit Robert Bistro

We've eaten at the Kenmore Square and Downtown Crossing locations and agree with most of your comments. The food has been average at best and the service spotty. We did get bread at both locations, but have no desire to go back.

So little time, so many choices. . . I need help!

Yes, the new Legal is where Jimmy's used to be located. Also in the new building are three other restaurants: sports bar, mexican and upscale steak house. Agree with you that Jimmy's at one point had some ok seafood but then went downhill towards the end.

For seafood on the waterfront with a view would suggest Legal Seafood Waterfront. It has just recently opened in a new building with large windows overlooking the harbor. It has two venues; first floor on the casual side and a more serious dining room on the second floor. Other Legal locations get mixed reviews but the second floor here may be striving to set itself apart. Have only dined on the first floor and thought the food while basic was verry good.

Cdn visitor looking for quality seafood, chowder, seasonal foods(ramps/asparagus/rhubarb. etc) & interesting/innovative salads

For the Legal chowder think I would recommend to a tourist the new Legal across the street from LTK which is right on the water and has great views of the harbor.

Bar at Union

Agree with you it used to be a very stable a solid group of guys and gals. One in particular I remember was Lee; one of the original waiters there tells me Lee is now at Les Zygomates.

Bar at Union

We also found the bartender to be obnoxious last night but this one had no hair. Food was really escellent though. Shame they seem to be having bartender issues; it is a real turn off if you like eating at the bar.

Idea needed for special dinner\anniversary - Like Chef's Table or Lighthouse Dinner

In Newport there is Chandler at Cliff Walk and Castle Hill Inn. Both have restaurants overlooking the ocean. The one at Chandler is called Spiced Pear. Suspect both places are expensive to stay at but you could stay elsewhere and dine there.

sea urchin

Where can I find it and how do I eat it?

Let's make a list of bars without TVs

Believe you are right, there many be a TV in the center of the bar at Union.

Don't know the answer to you question of gone long or being replaced.

Was at Union Bart and Grill recently and was surprised to see the TV had been removed from the bar area.

Newport - Sunday - B'day

Had a terrific meal at Tallulah (salad with shaved asparagus, seared scallops, oysters, roast lamb with couscous and a cheese plate). Service was excellent in a refined setting.

Tried to eat at Cafe Zelda the next night but just as we were seated they ushered in a group of about 12 that turned out to be a sales meeting. They were very very boistrous and then began a sales pitch at about 80 decibels on the history and benefits of one kind of rum. We ordered a drink to wait for the noise level to calm down but when it did not we paid for our drinks and left. This is not a large restaurant and we felt it was wrong for the management to let a group like this basically take over the place at the expense of the other diners. Their response to our concern was an "I'm sorry". Went across the street to Bouchard's and had a terrific meal.

Need some suggestions for Boston dining

Legal Seafood has a number of locations and has its fans and detractors (I am a fan). This week they opened a new location on Northern Ave called Legal Harborside. Have not eaten there yet but stopped by to see what the facility looks like and was very impressed. It has a large open kitchen and nice looking bar area, but the most impressive aspect is the wall of windows looking out over the harbor. Would suggest you at least try a lunch there.

It is also an interesting area to walk. If you take a cab your could after lunch walk back toward central Boston on the Harbor Walk which would be about a mile. Along the way you would pass the Fish Pier, World Tade Center, Instiute of Contemporary Art and have more terrific views of the harbor.

Newport - Sunday - B'day

Thanks for your inputs. We've had lunch at Castle Hill a couple of times and really enjoyed them. Never heard of Tallulah before but the reviews on line are very impressive. Will report back after trip.

Newport open on Monday

Visiting Newport and planned on going to Tucker's only to find out their closed on Mondays. Any recommendations for an interesting restaurant in that price range open on Mondays?

Newport - Sunday - B'day

Will be in Newport Sunday as part of a birthday celebration. Would appreciate recommendations for an excellent high end meal. In the past we have done: Spiced Pear, Bouchard's, Black Pearl, 22 Bowens. Are there any new places in Newport or something we have missed. For a more casual meal we always have liked Tucker's. Thanks.

Old-fashioned chocolate/candy shop

Has not been there for generations but Blue Tierra on West Broadway in South Boston makes excellent on site chocolates. Particulary like their barks.

Telegraph Hill Menu Update

Don't know about the menu status but had an excellent burger there for lunch recently with decent fries. Not a fan of the physical set up with the high tables. Owners were very friendly.

Truly Bostonian Restaurants

Think the prices at Amrheins have experienced price creep. Went there recently and some entrees were below $20 but several were $20 - $30. The bar is something to be seen though, although a brand name martini was $12.50 (steak house level price)
