Sea Scallops in the shell, freshness?
Local Asian fish store is selling sea scallops in the shell, however they shells all seem to be partially open. Is this normal or is it an indication that they are not fresh? They are behind glass so it is not easy to pick them up to see if they will close.

Where in C-Mart did you find them. I was in the one under the parking garage Sunday and could not find them.

New BBQ in Bedford!!!
Had lunch there today and think the pulled pork is more like ground pork and very bland. Mac and cheese was decemt; highlight was the cole slaw. Don't think we will be back.

Best Quick, Fresh Breakfast Sandwich/Burrito/Wrap Downtown - and it is definitely NOT Boloco!
Metro on Congress St. makes a decent egg sandwich; the egg is precook but tastes moist and fresh.

Dining near the Aquarium?
In case you don't already know the Harbor Walk now extends all the way to Gillette buildings near the Broadway Bridge. From the Aquarium follow along the harbor and then cross over the Northern Ave bridge and pick it up again near the Barking Crab. You'll end up two blocks from Franklin Cafe.

Help for upcoming visit highly appreciated...
How about lobster. James Hook is very close to your hotel (Nothern Ave bridge). They have life lobsters or cooked lobster meat. Not sure but I believe they have chowder also (probaly frozen). Would ask there about how well chowder ships.

New seafood items at Sullivans Castle Island
Tried the full bellied fried clams and thought they were pretty poor, lots of batter. Really was hoping they would be good, but will not order again.

Sportello, upstairs from drink has very good food. It does primarily lunch and dinner but does have some breakfast items. It has a unique kind of diner setting.

pop up message won't stop
For the past week I have been getting a pop up message everytime I log on, open a message, go back to the board message listing. The pop up is titled Security Warning and asks " do you want to installl Adobe Flash Player installer." I click no each time and it goes away until I go back to the message listings and it pops up again. Click no again and it goes away until I open a new message and it pops up again. I suppose if I clicked yes it would go away, but I don't feel I should have to.
It does not happen on any ohter site. Any idea on how I can stop this from happening?

Anyone been to Sportello?
Not sure if it is still the case but when I went you could get 1/2 size portions of the pasta dishes for about 1/2 the price.

Restaurant pampering - not
They are closed on Tuesdays and I agree a "fine" restaurant should have had a back up plan even if it meant the manager or owner came in and covered some of the tasks. You are paying the high prices for the food and the experience.

Restaurant pampering - not
Recently went to one of the more well renowned and pricey restaurants in Newport, RI on a Monday night for a sprcial occasion and ran into a first. There was one person who was the hostess, bar tender, waitress and bus person. There were six to eight active tables and although the food was very good the experience was not.
There were definitely timing problems that arose which resulted in an extremely drawin out meal. Not sure she was also not managing the kitchen.
I know these are tough times but at these prices I would expect better service even if they thought it was going to be a slow night, which it was not. Anyone else having similar experiences.

Casual Italian Restaurant
For South Boston would recommend Porto Bello on East Broadway near the Rite Aid.

Thanks for all your responses. Because of the 12 year old and the proximity to Rte 24 will probably opt for the 99. Checked out some of the other menus and they did look interesting. Thanks again.

Only one response on the New England board so thought I would give this board a try.
Attending grand-daughther's gymnastics event this coming Saturday and do not know the area where the event is at all. Hoping someone can help me locate a restaurant near the event or off Rte 24 headed back toward Boston.
Event is at a building off W. Chestnut near something called Cirelli's Foods. Sounds like an industrial area. Taking Rte 123 off of Rte 24 to get to it.
Will be three adults and a 12 year old at about 7:oo pm.

Between Prov. and Bos.
Appreciate suggestiong for a nice restaurant between Providence and Boston where two couples can have a conversation without shouting over background noise or music. Cusine is not important if the food is good. Preferably not Patriot Place. Thanks

Seafood extravaganza - suggestions
Oceanaire has a nice selection of fresh fish and oysters. It's upscale in decor, service and price. Think it is only open for lunch during the week. You definitely would not feel rushed there; it is located near City Hall. More info on there web site.

Family-friendly chow in South Boston or near Convention Center?
Don't believe either is in South Boston, both are fine but kind of chain like. Depending on the age of your kids just down the street from you toward the city is the more upscale Persephone on Summer St. It is an easy walk from your hotel.. They would have no trouble handling a party of eight - you will spend a few dollars here as the dining is more upscale.

Miel disappointing
Had dinner last Saturday night and will not be rushing back, at least not for the entrees. Started with a selection of oysters on the half shell and seared scallops with greens; both were excellent. Entrees were skate and crab cakes; both were over cooked to the dry point ( or left uner the heat lamp too long). We sent them back and ordered another seared scallops (interesting this one had three scallops vs. two on the first order, maybe the kitchen was trying to make ammends) and a crepe. The scallops were great again but the crepe which was folded into a square was once again dry. The crepe reminded me of a quesadilla. The deserts were good if not great.
The restaurant was empty so there was no excuse for the poor preparation. On the plus side the service was excellent and the manager came over to express concern. Also, they comped us some items from the bill and gave us a second dessert free.
I ordered off the prix fixe menu which included items off the regular menu including the scallops and the skate. As I recall it was a reasonalbe $35.for three courses.

Restaurant heat lamps
Changed the order. One dish came out very good, the other, a crepe, was not great. By the way they did comp us some items and provided one free dessert.

Restaurant heat lamps
Ate at a rather large and upscale hotel reataurant last night that was almost empty and our entrees (fish and crab cakes) came out so dry we sent them back. My thought was that they made them while we ate our apps. because they had nothing else to do and put them under a heat lamp. Could the heat lamp dry them out and how long would that take?
